I honestly think much of the conjecture is as a result of what happened during preseason game 1. Way too many projected starters were missing for conclusions to be formed. But it is what it is...2 parts popular opinion / 1 part "look at me, make me relevant again!"

This is a thread about depth, right?

Dallas has a tough schedule this year but other than Brees and maybe Cutler who always kills us, the QBs Dallas will face are not exactly worldbeaters. Maybe that's a small sliver of hope.

Then again, right now, George Selvie is our best pass rusher. Let that sink in.

I know yesterday on talking cowboys they were talking about the defense and it was not good a fan called in and said that he though they could win 10 games they laughed and cut him of.
Yeah, I heard it too. When Mickey Spagnola can't find anything positive to say about the defense, you are in trouble.

Or they will be looking like Sheldon Cooper did on The Big Bang Theory after Mary Farrah Fowler corrected him by saying Indiana Jones played no part saving the world at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I know that look. I'm a huge ROTLA fan and didn't think about that consequence of the movie until I saw that episode.

HUH??? Please elaborate. lol.

Adding players who could not make other teams will not do anything at all to help.

Don't agree with this logic. Some teams are stacked with depth at certain positions, while other teams are severely lacking. Therefore, any given player on the "stacked" unit would likely be better than the bottom depth of the "lacking" unit. And this in turn should at least some something to help.

It's no secret that our defense has drawn some unfavorable reviews to put it mildly. But do you guys buy that this may be the worst group of defenders a team has fielded since the new millennium? The front 7 probably has a case for that distinction, that group looks like someone's idea of a sick joke. Even the most blind of optimists and sunshine pampers are grasping for straws when asked about this defense, except "well, it can't get any worse... Right??"

That was from a national media guy. National media only ranks teams by star players.

Team A has zero star players and 40 legit NFL players and 13 scrubs.

Team B has 5 stars and 43 scrubs.

National Media: Team B is always better.

Yes. Definitely. Its the worst I've seen. If the Cowboys are to have a solid defense in three years I don't believe more than 3 or 4 of these players would be a part of it.

Its an embarrassment to the franchise and an indictment against the front office.

I realize this isn't saying much, but this defense will be better than last year's.
Book it.

The exact quote: "Cowboys have worst defensive depth chart in over a decade!" Depth is one thing. He was referring to our depth chart, which is all encompassing.

which sadly is that bad.

That is kind of what Sheldon said. :D Amy pointed out that Indy and Marion were tied up while the ****'s opened the Ark. Afterwards, the ****'s were utterly consumed. If Indy had not been present, the ****'s would have still opened the ark and been consumed. Thus, Indy did not have an active role in saving the world from the ***** using the Ark as a weapon. :) Here's a pic of Amy closing Sheldon's trap after he realizes what she said:

Of course, people will also say that Indiana Jones was the one that discovered the Ark in the first place and was the "narrator" of the movie. That is also true but it does not detract from Amy's interpretation. Amy's quip does not make me love ROTLA any less. ;)

Look at the defensive players drafted.
From 2008-2013 (six consecutive drafts), only one player drafted has consistently performed relative to his draft status ~ in terms of durability, performance, & dependability.
Orlando Scandrick.

When an organization misses on all draft picks in six years, in particular on Defensive (and most important, on the defensive line) in the first 3rd rounds, where playmakers are drafted & in conjunction fails to develop later draft selections, a chaotic panic environment ensues. A Perfect Storm.

1. Overspending on some free-agent acquisitions & signing others to start, who are either journeymen or average reserve players at best.
2. By necessity, starting players who are typically 2nd or 3rd string.
3. Signing undrafted free-agents to fill the roster.
4. A knee-jerk response to suddenly change defensive schemes.

Not exactly an ideal situation and the results are visible on the field.

Damn, you're right haha. At least Indy likely saved Marion's life by telling her to keep her eyes closed.

Thanks

People who say this is worse paper--depth chart wise--are forgetting what got trotted out there late last year.
I also think if Ro McClain sticks, the line backing core is better too.
The safeties...just by adding Wilcox...are for sure better. Dixon could help the depth. at least vs last season.
CBs after week 4 are the same or better depending on player progress.

It's all relative. I'm not at all saying this group will be very good. But better than last year. YES
