Would an 0-2 start surprise you?

Anyone who would be surprised by an 0-2 start hasn’t been following what’s been going on with the team the past few months. The Cowboys have two very formidable opponents the first two weeks and it’s not like they play great at home.

We seriously could start the season 0-6....McCarthy out the door just like Wade Phillips.

While I’m trying to approach this season from an optimistic perspective, the more I step back and look at the current circumstances, the more worried I become.

I’m looking at a rookie left tackle with limited reps, a reputation for holding, and recovering from a high ankle sprain lining up to plan B at left guard.

I’m looking at a receiving group in flux, waiting for its’ #2 to be able to play recovering from major knee surgery.

And I’m also looking at a tough start to the season via scheduling.

I can’t help but to think that we will be spending most of the season clawing back from an 0-2 deficit.

How does everyone else feel?
I wouldn’t be surprised with a 0-2 start. It may be worse than that.

I think the defense is clearly the strength of this team. And based on what I’ve seen and heard, they realize it as well and intend to rely heavily on that.

Jerry mentioned relying on the running game specifically which makes sense with a shaky offensive line. It reminds me of a few years back when they did much the same. Try to control the flow and tempo with the run game and protect what was then a suspect defense. Now, if the ‘D’ can hold up their end, they might be able to dictate better circumstances.
Agreed. I think the defense is on an upswing and should be even better than last year. Especially as the season moves on. Our pass rush is gonna be scary.

worked for our SB team after 22 held out..sounds like a perfect situation. Gallup returns we go on a run. Rather have rough start and strong finish we did it in 2018 which helped to be hitting on all cylinders late,
Right, because Michael Gallup and Emmitt Smith are the same impactful players.
:huh::facepalm:

A little. Dallas can win either of those games and would need to have a bad start to not at least go 1-1

Fans can think anything they choose. My perspective is this team will not be nearly as bad as many here claim. As for Tampa Bay, I'm sorry I am not in aw of them and frankly I don't see them as the same team they were 2 years ago or even last season. To me this is a winnable game. Frankly the Cinn game bothers me more
The Bucs barely beat us last year with AB and Gronk and It took 2 missed fgs from Zuerlien. If our defense plays like it should we won't have a problem. The Bengals are just as beatable. If we can take chase away they'll struggle mightily.

I really feel like we're going to beat the Bucs and fairly easily too.

They have a bad oline, we have Parsons now rushing the QB and a legit secondary.

They won't gave Godwin, Brown or Gronk last year.

No JPP or Suh either on defense.

We will beat Brady.

Should have beat them last year if only we had a reliable Kicker.

No, but I also think people are making these two games out to be more than they are.

First, both are at home. Second, Tampa is ravaged by injuries offensively and are in worse shape along the OL than we are. Finally, if you look at the advanced metrics Cincy was remarkably mediocre by Super Bowl team standards. They were overall the second weakest team to make it to the Super Bowl in the last 10 years.

For perspective, both teams are inferior to the version of Tampa Bay we played on the road to start last season and nearly beat.

An 0-2 start is expected. I have stated thus in several threads the last couple months.

An 0-2 start would absolutely surprise me. I think it's far more likely we start 2-0. However, 1-1 is the most likely start to this season for the Cowboys.

That's two consecutive home losses to start the season and it would be somewhat of a surprise. Of course, if they played sloppy and the ball rolled the other way then it will happen.

The Cowboys are pretty good but they can't overcome too many mistakes and they have never been blessed with "elite" luck.

Probability wise, I would say there is about a 20% chance of 0-2, 20% going 2-0 and 60% of 1-1.

They’re playing 2 of the 4 teams that have been in the SB the last 2 seasons. They play another in week 5. They’re some major holes in this roster, 0-2 to 1-4 start is a very strong possibility!
