A Cars isn't an NFL team.....I heard that same excuse last year going into the playoffs against San Fran when I thought San Fran beat Dallas for three reasons, yet I was told the playoffs are different than the regular season yet this is the same team that was one of thee most penalized teams in the league, the offense running game is too inconsistent and the defense couldn't stop the run against winning or playoff teams during the season....but I guess you think it's just hyperbole and rhetoric

Look at the roster on paper, this offense isn't as good as last year.....
Yeah, but the defense should be an improved unit and there ARE two sides of the ball.

Surprise me? Yeah, a little. All is not lost with an 0 and 2 start, but all teams are skewed toward .500 so .500 is a more likely scenario.

If Tyron was going to go down and be replaced by a rookie, then a first round rookie is the best possible backup scenario. I’m not sure why everyone believes we CANT win because of a first round rookie playing OT.

My questions stem from the fact that the first round rookie was deemed as raw when the drafted him. He had precious few reps at left tackle. And he’s trying to recover from his own high ankle sprain.

McGovern is an improvement over CW.

Then why did the team ultimately go back to Williams last year?

I’m not sure that there will be a lot of drop off from less than prime time Tyron and a highly touted rookie. Prime Tyron, probably so, but not the current version. By the end of the year he may have been Wally pipped.

Looks like a lot of wishful thinking here.

And I have said the defense is trending up but we're talking about the offense...and you can't think this offense on paper is better going into this year..

ON Paper doesn't count #dreamteam this isnt dungeons and dragons.um kk its not FF nor is it madden. your opinion has no more weight and validity than mine,

same , counts a lot, yes totally is..sorry you DO Not understand analogy's, that on you

teams have cap ie a budget and money decide on how their rosters are built similar to these car builds which ON PAPER the favorites are getting beat by the underdogs, and they all did it differently like the different teams Gms building and spending differently. yes its a lot like that these are humans building machines and driving them , nfl team as a group is like a machine. How it runs is important. my point was how it appears on paper doesn't matter im shocked at the performances by the other cars who went a different direction spending less time, money and effort on their cars and if you didn't even watch you would have picked the opposite outcomes.

If we beat TB and lose to Cincinnati, I can live with that start.

Beating an NFC team more important than beating an AFC team.

Can you imagine this place at 0-2. Many would be jumping for joy though.

Possibly so. But would not surprise me to see the Cowboys run the ball much better than in years past. This line is built to run the ball. Zeke should be a bit healthier. The team should know what they have in Pollard by now.

Amari had talent to burn but there is a reason the Cowboys traded him away and I believe it wasn’t all salary cap related. They wanted him gone.

The concerns about the rookie OT are reasonable but he was a first round pick. How can we ASSUME he his going to suck? Why should we assume that?

The rookie returner may end up being our version of Tyreek Hill. I’m a bit higher on McCarthy’s overall coaching ability than most. He’s not the Hoodie but he is better than we have had in some time.

While I’m trying to approach this season from an optimistic perspective, the more I step back and look at the current circumstances, the more worried I become.

I’m looking at a rookie left tackle with limited reps, a reputation for holding, and recovering from a high ankle sprain lining up to plan B at left guard.

I’m looking at a receiving group in flux, waiting for its’ #2 to be able to play recovering from major knee surgery.

And I’m also looking at a tough start to the season via scheduling.

I can’t help but to think that we will be spending most of the season clawing back from an 0-2 deficit.

How does everyone else feel?

Given the opponents and the current state of the roster, I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Cowboys didn't start 0-2. If someone offered 1-1 I'd gladly take it.

Both of those teams are better than we are so I guess I would not be shocked.

Just like I don't believe we should expect to win, I also don't believe we should think we can't win. We're facing two teams that went further than us in the playoffs last year, including one that went to the Super Bowl. Until we show we've closed the gap, there's no reason to believe we have.

Obviously, there are some areas where we should feel we are improved, but there are other areas that are huge question marks. Will the improved areas be enough? Will Tampa and Cincy not be as good as they were last year? We'll find out.

Frankly, if I felt that we can't win, I'd go find something better to do with my time. Hope is what continues to drive me to watch my favorite team.

Maybe a little, but not much
  • We get both games at home
  • The Bucs have had even more injury issues than we have
  • The Bengals have some issues too, including the QB coming back from an appendectomy a few weeks ago.
If I had to guess, I'd say 1-1

I think all three teams will be better later this year

Bingo! Trust me, the Bucs have many issues they also are dealing with. I feel really good about us beating them but Bengals I'm not so sure. Something else to keep in mind, as many coaches have said, it takes 3-4 games to know what type of team you have from the previous season. In other words, we probably have 3-4 games to hide/manipulate our weaknesses before teams start attacking.

Neither of these teams were undefeated during the regular season. They will also likely lose some games this regular season.

I’m looking forward to watching us play the games. I’m looking forward to this defense “planting” Tom Terrific in the turf over and over again.

I'm on the fence. On one hand, we have a very questionable offensive lineup. On the other hand, we have what looks to be a very good defense...and Turbo fielding kicks.

Im with you on this....teams have been trying to plant him for years though...its not easy to do, hopefully we get to him without laundry all over the place.

They weren't, but we didn't beat very many good teams last year. We faced five playoff teams last year during the regular season. We beat two of them. Both of those teams (Philly and New England), like us, were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Hopefully, we return to how we were playing earlier in the season when we almost beat Tampa and topped the Chargers and the Patriots. If we play like that, we've got a chance. But quite a bit has changed for us since then, so we'll see if we can get back to that level of play or better.

No not at all I had them at 1-4 out of the gate even with Smith and the issues you point out above.

Neither a 4-2 nor a 2-4 start would be all that surprising for the first 6 games. Gallup returning sooner rather than later points the needle up, obviously the OL points it down.

The teams we play are hard but none are unbeatable. Every team has warts someplace.

I don't like the roster we have right now - so no, this wouldn't shock me. Wouldn't be surprised if we were below .500 either going into the bye.

I think that it would be hard for the Bucs and the Bengals to beat the Cowboys. I think that the Cowboys will start 3 and 0 if they can keep the offensive line healthy.
