Would Anyone Have A Problem With Rice At #28?

I know a lot of people have him as a guy to take in the 2nd round but would anyone be pissed if he was taken at #28 providing that one of the top corners was taken @ #22. I'm not sure he will be there when Dallas picks in the 2nd and I would rather "reach" (if thats what you wanna call it) for a back like Rice then take a part timer who is rated as the right value @ #22.

I ask because I really wouldn't have a problem with taking him there. Hes a complete back, not just a guy who is viewed as a compliment. He could carry the load if needed and I think getting a guy who could do that would be a better option for the long haul.

I was watching his highlight over at the Falcons website and one thing I noticed about him was that he was really low-key. Never showboating. When he scored, he handed or flipped the ball to the nearest official and then went to celebrate with his team.

Character is one thing that you can never have too much of.

While I would like to get him in the 2nd round, I don't think he will be there and as such, I really wouldn't have a problem with taking him at #28 if CB is addressed at #22.

Thoughts?

I'm sure many would, just for the simple fact that he's not projected by the "draft gurus" to go that high.

I wouldn't be one of them.

I'm sorry, but when did getting a player with the ability to contribute MORE become a bad thing? What if Barber gets hurt? Would you still like your scat back then?

That's the problem. Who's ratings? Yours? Mine? Kipers? How do you know Ciskowski doesn't have him rated as their fourth best RB?

You don't.

We're in a catch 22 situation here in my opinion.

We do need a guy who can do more with less but we need a guy who is not limited as well.

For me I would take the guy who can do more with 10 carries than the guy who can do more with 20 carries.

That doesnt mean a scat back either.

Yeah, I would. There's no need to reach for a guy. This draft has RB depth. Use it.

I would love to have Rice. And I don't think 28 is a reach at all. But it's just hard for me to think drafting a backup RB in the first round is a good idea at all, particularly when we could get Tashard Choice with our 2nd round pick.

I agree,it's not like JJ is sitting their saying we better not draft him because he's going to be too good and he may want to be a everydown back. I have no doubt character will have alot to do with the RB pick, they have to know and understand their role.

He could compliment Barber.

Marion: "Morning Ray."

Ray: "Mornin' Marion. Your dreads look awfully nice today."

Agreed.

I dont think anyone during the College football season would argue if you would've said Ray Rice will be a 1st round pick.

But let some overevaluating get involved and then suddenly it becomes a reach.

The dude can play.

If we want Rice that bad, we should work a trade down, even taking less value if we have too. I just don't see any reason to take him at 28.

The cowboys do not use a 3rd down back in their system. They use 2 guys who can run, block and receive. If you can't do those 3 things you need not apply. Felix jones, chris johnson are two guys that can't do those 3 things. Rice, Stewart, Mendenhall and maybe a couple others fit that profile. We will not draft a guy that is just a 3rd down speed back.

Yes, because we did not invite him to Valley Ranch and I believe that is too much value for Rice.

Trading down would be the smarter thing to do.

Of course it is...if we think he's going to go somewhere in between our second first and our second rounder. If our scouts think he's going to go in the end of the first, then it's not. ;)

It'd be great if we could get him with our seventh...just so long as we get the guy we're going for. If it's Rice, I'm stoked, if not, so be it.

Wherever our guys have him rated, that's where I want to take him. :)

Bingo - not to mention the fact that this 1st round pick will be splitting time with a Pro Bowler. Rice is a great, solid, safe pick, but clearly a second round pick IMO/FWIW. Total, and unnecessary reach.
