Would Cowboys consider taking Penix or Nix in 1st round?

Trubisky Jones Pickett Locke Howell Darnold Wilson ….forcing a QB pick can be a set up to a bad draft . This draft needs starters not red shirt ST players or QB’s who aren’t an upgrade . I can’t understand this strategy of not opening up training camp to a Prescott vs Lance competition . You spent 4’s on both of them .

Yeah but Lance was a former 3rd overall pick….and Dak is coming off an all pro……unless they regret trading for Lance….which I think it’s to early to say.

I agree we have no need unless we’re done with Prescott which I don’t believe is the case.

And why this circumstance was solely based on the premise we were done and these QB’s might provide better opportunities than our others and or what would be available at our slot in draft next year.

While both were initially expected to go early in 2nd round there has been recently some rumors they could go late in 1st round if you have that need.

There was a write up this week in local papers how the Cowboys could trade down to gain an extra pick in 2nd or 3rd round allowing them to reach later in 1st round if you believed either of these QB’s were potential starters . They aren’t likely to be there later in 2nd round.

Teams often stretch and mortgage much to draft what they hope is their next franchise QB. And if we are considering or looking to move on from Prescott this would seem like a good move to make .

Why wait until next years draft when there is some good prospects which could be there for us in this draft. This all pends of course if we are truly prepared to move on.

I’m not sure I wouldn’t put these two QB’s close to same category as the top 4 expected to be drafted in 1st round.

Those top 3 QB’s all going to bad teams could be more of a rebuild while here they’d get at least one season behind Prescott taking over more of a playoff caliber team which I’d argue sets them more up for success.

I thought it was an interesting article while not allowed to directly post or link here.

Who is giddy with excitement about this extension for Dak that's coming any day?? Not me.

I think with them trading for Lance last year QB isn’t an option unless the guy they absolutely love is there, and we haven’t heard anything about any QB’s. So I think I would shore up the lines this year if I’m looking for a QB next year so that he can actually develop rather than take a beating behind a terrible line which could end up ruining him in the long run l.

Penix is 24 with 2 ACL tears and a shoulder surgery already... hard pass. He also look really bad against Michigan. He's not the answer for Dallas. But neither is Trey Lance.
Kind fits the Jerry type of draft pick doesn’t he

Remember this is only pertinent if they are sensing they can’t get a deal done with Prescott and prepared to move on.
I still wouldn't do it, even if I knew they were moving on from Dak after this season. Not even next year either. The fear is wasting a first round pick on a QB that isn't that good, but good enough to get us 8 wins.

If they move on from Dak, start Lance in 2025. Get a top 3 pick in 2026.

Well, at least we'll know the potential names of the next scape-goat QB that half the fan base will blame for not winning in Dallas while the only common denominator for the past almost 30 years of not winning, gets a free pass.

I just hope whoever the Cowboys do bring in to replace Dak understand they will be hated no matter what.

All pro at choking come crunch time so let’s stay with a proven 2nd team all pro based on beating up the dreg teams and choking against the best teams, that’s a brilliant plan, lmao
Once you get past the lies, please do some research. You'll be heartily disappointed to see Dak has led the Cowboys to wins against good teams as well.

With all our free agent losses and our lack of activity in free agency to replace some of those players it would be crazy using our first round pick on a QB. We’ve already used our 4th round pick from this draft on a QB and we don’t have a 5th round pick. If the Cowboys are going to have any chance in 2024 they’re going to need a great draft and their first round pick needs to be on the field, not carrying a clipboard. If the team is having any thoughts of moving on from Dak after the upcoming season they’ll likely be in better position to draft a better QB prospect next year than taking one at 24 next week.

The only QB that’s developed into a franchise QB taken 24 or higher in the first round in years is Lamar Jackson. Jordan Love has a chance but the jury is still out. Hitting on a QB later in the first round isn’t likely. QBs don’t last until the 24th pick if there’s a good chance of them becoming a great QB. Yes, it’s happened but it doesn’t happen often.
What if they are writing off 2024. Get rid of Dak's salary and move on with a competition for QB1, 2, and 3?

I'm guessing that 99% of the members of this forum know that it is Jerry Jones is the absolute cause of the last 30 years. I feel like that should be obvious.

No team writes off a season in April, especially with the draft coming up. It just doesn’t happen. They’ll write off a season during a season that’s going nowhere. It’s silly that some of you think the team is preparing to tank in 2024.

The only thing I would do if either or both of these guys were available at pick #24 is I would raise my price for trading out.

Now, if I didn't make that trade and either one was available in the 2nd round and all the RB's were still there then I might consider it before I take my RB in round #3 but I doubt that will heppen.
