Like someone mentioned Staubach, Lilly, Emmitt and even Aikman's number are unofficially retired. Because teams usually take around 80 players to training camp sometimes they have to use one of the unofficial retired numbers for that purpose. The Cowboys tradition has always been to honor their great players in the ROH.

Still officially retiring 5-6 numbers couldn't hurt.

You're trying to make your posts stand out from others. It tends to backfire. I was telling you this for your benefit, not to rag on you. You won't be taken seriously. Same as someone who posts in all caps.

Slate and KJJ have made Hostile a bitter foe this offseason.

Without looking it up, the number 12 is retired for the Seattle Seahawks. Who wore that number?

If you start something like that, where do you draw the line?

Retire hall of famers that were inducted as members of the team.

Thats it.

Cant leave them out and then if you have your way might as well put #19 up there...............and are you starting to see the point?

No, we can just retire the jersey of those players of the 90's........sorry

That's 9 players who played a majority of their career, 5 more could be considered.

Just no need for it.

It is in honor of the fans, the 12th man.

How about #15 for the Yankees? Don't look it up.

Geebus. OK players do not go into the HOF as a member of any team so that is out. What about all our former greats that are not in the HOF? What about players who wore the same numbers? Retiring numbers is just a bad idea any way you look at it.

It still amazes me the number of people who still believe that is true. :banghead:

Interesting

I despise baseball.
The point is, no one cares about retired numbers. The ardent fans will always know that Emmitt wore #22, Staubach #12, Aikman #8, and Lilly #74. They don't need those numbers in cold storage not to know that.

On top of that the maximum for TC is 83 players and it used ot be 85 if you had guys in NFL Europe. That means at most you can retire 17 numbers before you simply can't do it any more. This isn't baseball with 25 man rosters or basketball with 12. Football rosters are huge. With the Practice Squads that is 61 players.

You also need to consider that positions have number restrictions. What happens if we no longer have numbers for all of our LBs because we have retired 7 numbers?

Their numbers are clearly displayed in the Ring of Honor. It works. There is no need to fix something that is not broken.
