Trade who? As I said there are not that many trades in the NFL to begin with. Most players end up becoming FA there are some trades but to get something you have to give something. So who goes? Lee? Carter? Dez? Ware or Romo? after that you end up with picks for players who you don't know if they will pan out or not.

Ware would be an ideal candidate. I love the guy to death, but his decline will be very sharp.

  • How about we stop handing out contracts to guys who have only produced for a season?
  • How about we make a policy to not trade 1st-3rd round picks unless the player is a once a decade type player?
  • How about we start drafting some linemen?

in decline? 2011 was his highest sack total, this past season he played half the year with 1 arm because of an injury, he sucked it up and got out there but of course a 1 armed OLB is not going to do as well.

He looked like he had lost a step and that great burst when the season started, before his injury. Maybe it was just a bad year, but he didn't look like the same player right from day one, imo.

Nor would I. First, need to find out if Free is willing to take a paycut to stay. Second, need to know who will replace him.

And, the answer to both of those questions is unknown til after the draft. So, don't you think it would be wise to wait a little bit. Especially, since there is no benefit to cutting him now.

Of course there's a benefit to cutting him now! What are you talking about?

You are totally underestimating the value in satisfying an impatient portion of the fan base. Think of the angst the Cowboys could have prevented if Dallas just outright cut Free the day after the season ended.

The fact that they wouldn't have saved any money since it would have had to be June 1 cut doesn't mean anything when stacked up against the goodwill of catering to the knee-jerk crowd. So what if cutting him early hurts the flexibility of the Cowboys options during the draft and damages their postion when negotiating with any free agents. It's all about the vengeance.

He was bad, he must be punished NOW! Every hour that passes that Doug Free is still on our roster causes more and more irreparable damage to the Cowboys name and legacy.

He hasn't declined much, which is why you trade him now.

13th overall and a 3rd rounder for a player you don't feel you can keep is getting "raped"?

As for Jerry, he doesn't let anyone go, why would he let Revis go?

Yes. After next year, the Jets are going to have to spend about 30 Million dollars in free agency just to reach the salary floor. They will end up having to overpay for average talent much like the Dolphins did this year.

The jets won't have a QB on their books who takes up 13-16 million until whoever they draft next year or this year is done with his rookie contract.

So, they could have kept Revis on essentially a year to year basis for 16 million. They would have received a compensatory 3rd round pick for letting Revis go anyway. They traded Revis for a 1st round pick.
