Jerry thinking more of the long term success for the Cowboys, while Bill Parcells' is thinking of the short term goals. Jerry has never liked passing over sexy draft choices.

What if BP still chose some other player over one of these guys, would He and Jerry Jones finally go foot to throat? What about us as well?

I sort of agree with you, but I've heard Jerry say on several occasions that he has to look out for the best interest of the long term future and goals of this team.

good point, and Jerry has also said that he and BIll have a great working relationship, there's no such thing as a working relationship w/o a little give and take, and by nature, Jerry feels he's a talent evaluator, so you know he has his input thrown in there when it comes to personnel moves, FA/draft

Just out of curiousity--why are people so convinced that Leinart will amount to anything? Seriously (& this has nothing to do with Parcells/Jerry/winning now, etc.), how do you know that Leinart OR Young are any better than Henson, Romo, or possibly the Cowboys picking up someone like Ramsey? Other than that they're "names" who are currently in the news.

Frankly, if they're going to take a risk with a QB, I'd argue for Ramsey (who I still think we will sign, BTW--I predict we sign Ramsey & trade Henson). Maybe even Tim Hasselbeck. Those are guys who may not be sexy (in a non "Brokeback Mountain" kind of way) but have as much potential as Leinart or Young right now. I think Ramsey is a perfect Parcells QB & would do well under him. He's the kind of kid who won't lose games, is tough (he got the s*** beat out of him under Spurrier), smart, & really wants to play. Parcells can do with him what he did with Vinny while at the Jets--doesn't ask him to win games, just not to lose them. Worked out pretty well with the Jets (& has for Roethlisberger too).

Some stat-hound--I'd love to see research on how many QB "names" panned out when they were top-round draft picks (Akili Smith anyone?), as opposed to scrubs like Brady, Delhomme, Warner, Favre, & Matt Hasselbeck who were low-rounders. Other than Big Ben, I'd argue that none of the top rounders from last year or this have played out well (Eli, maybe, but I'm withholding judgement). Rivers hasn't played at all; Alex Smith & Losman are busts, looks like Rodgers may get his chance if Lord Favre can ever make up his mind (but anyone really think he's going to be the savior of that team?). So explain to me why Leinart or Young just HAVE to be drafted if they fall to us?? If they're the BPA, then yes. Otherwise, go with the BPA.

You have a point with not knowing if they are any good or not (Leinart,Young,Cutler) but you build teams thru the draft.

At some point, we need to address the QB of the future. And BP is not thinking about the future, but Jerry Jones is. If we barely tip-toe into the playoffs and get run out in the 1st round, I think Jerry will lose his patience and trust for big Bill.
