Would we be able to pull off this trade?

Denver has two firsts and loves to get our former DL.

I think you'd have to trade him to Cleveland first before Denver gets interested.

Was Carver in Cleveland before he went to Denver?

Jerry Jones says Ellis is staying, is it written in stone that he eventually does? nope, but that just means he has a better chance of staying on than being cut

and the Broncos would never go for this trade, they acquired 2 1sts to do something with them in the draft, either take 2 great prospects, or trade up

so in otherwords...it's a nice, little dream

Jones is a salesman, talking up Ellis as having a place in Dallas is damage control to keep his trade value up.

If any team thinks he's going to get cut, they will not budge on a trade for him.

Ellis will not be cut. If we cannot not trade him, he will be very unhappy. He is under a reasonable contract. Glover and Allen are the ones in danger of being cut if they don't redo their contracts.

The only way Ellis is gone is if we decide to trade him. His contract is easily affordable and the guy had 8 sacks and was playing well until we benched him for some mysterious reason. No way do we flat out cut him, that move would make no sense at all.........

As for the trade mentioned by the OP, I could see that being a fair deal for both sides, but I doubt it happens.

By golly, how could I ferget about the great Shante Carver!?!?!

Shante, not the manliest of names for a DE, hairdresser yes, DE no.

On the surface it sounds good, however, it is extremely difficult for these types of trades to happen.

I dont believe Carver ever went to Denver. Probably thinking about Pittman who did for 2 or 3 years and of course Lett was there for a year also.

And Meyers and Ek...Who are there now, from Cleveland.

I like the deal overall and think it would make sense for both teams.

Denver ran a bit of a gimmick defense this year that minimized the weakness of their DL but they don't have anyone that is as accomplished as a pass rusher as Ellis. He could help shore up that area of their team.

As for Dallas, the team will definitely be weaker without Ellis but him and BP appear to be butting heads. If we can get something of value for him, we probably should. I wouldn't expect anything better than a 3rd rounder for him given his age and the situation in Big D.
Nobody wants Ellis for his pass rush skills.

I bet there are a lot of people on this board that want to keep Ellis for his pass rush skills. He has led us in sacks the past 5 years and has had 7-9 sacks the last four years. Players like that don't grow on trees. Furthermore, players who put up those kinds of numbers usually get about $5M/year in today's DE market.

BTW, he had more sacks than anybody on Denver's defense and he did this as a part-time player.

The Ellis bashing never ceases on this board.

I agree, its just crazy. I would like to keep Ellis.

So you think Ellis will get $5 million a year?
btw: leading the Cowboys in sacks the last five years is hardly a glowing endorsement. No bashing here, just an observation. I guess if I say another team wouldn't jump at the chance to trade for Ellis I'm bashing.

Keep in mind that Ek got 8 sacks his 1st year after leaving here. Before that didn't he get like 17 sacks in 5 years. I could see Ellis getting double digit sacks in another teams 4-3 scheme.

The cap savings for cutting or trading him are not worth it. I would absolutely keep Ellis, although he probably won't be too happy about it.

Glover OTOH....

Glover is slated to count $7.2M against the cap and has a $2M roster bonus due very early in March. Given that he is an old part-time player with declining production who doesn't fit well in our new defensive scheme, the writing is on the wall.

I fully expect him to be cut or take a gigantic renegotiation. No team will be interested in trading for him with only one year left on his deal with a huge cap number.

I don't know what he would get on the open market but I wouldn't be shocked. At $3M/year he is quite a bargain for us and I have no strong desire to trade him at all. We will be substantially weaker without him.

I will be very surprised if he's a Cowboy next year. I'm not sure he would renegotiate just to split time with Ferguson, and quite frankly he's been such a solid citizen and team guy here I wouldn't be shocked if Jerry did right by him and just let him go so he could get another FA deal.
