Would you be happy with a Super Bowl loss?

I only speak from personal experience... those two SB loses in the 70's were extremely painful. I'd rather not make the playoffs than to get my hopes up that high only to have the rug pull out from under me. Decades later I still recall it. No thank you.

You don't have a chance if you don't make it there.

If I believed the Cowboys were outgunned and outmanned and serious underdogs, I wouldn't mind a Super Bowl loss. But if they were favored, yes, it would hurt.

But I don't know how one could say they wouldn't want their team to get to the Super Bowl if it means losing. Just the exhilaration of winning the NFC Championship and the two weeks of excitement leading up to the Super Bowl. Even in a loss, noting really can take those feelings, those memories away. Of course, winning the Super Bowl would be that much more exciting, but I'd still rather get there than to never get there.

You got it, It is the biggest game in professional sports (at least in my mind) I want my team to be part of that.

I was at 1 of them 1st meeting between the Cowboys and Steelers. Dallas was not even suppose to get to the SB, it took a hail mary in Minn who had outplayed us then a big underdog vs the LA Rams to get to the SB. Dallas was the underdog in the game and Steeler fans afterward were hollering we won the game and a lot of Cowboy fans were hollering yeah but we won the money. It was funny. The game as was the 2nd 1 vs Pitt considered 2 of the best SB ever played and I take pride in that. 1st championship game I watched was the ICE Bowl frankly the game was not all that the weather became the story and the game became this historic game and thought Dallas lost again I take great pride in helping make the history of the NFL what it is today. I hate losing but win or lose I hold me head up proud to call myself a Dallas Cowboys fan. You offer me a chance for a SB win or lose I will take it gladly.

We all take the SB loses in our own way. I'm just speaking for me. It was painful and I don't want to repeat it. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I think 1st off execution of the play matters greatly, ummm ok. Never thought of that (roll eyes)

there have been calls made and were for the taking and players will fail to execute it, I think in a game of 50 to 60 plays within a game that sure teams will make a call to catch a defense off guard. If I am 2nd and 1 why not take a shot down the field as defense is cheating up vs the run or on 3rd down and 1?

Yes, of course.

Will it always work no but these NFL coaches do understand this game better than I think many fans on message board think. You have the Colts who had some very questionable calls on onside kicks but they have worked and people will say how gutsy that is, until it backfires then it was just dumb. There is always going to be 2nd guessing when plays fail or when a coach makes a call of going for it vs a FG or some other situation if does not work.

...........

See bold above.

And no one one is talking about second guessing, I am referring specifically to bad play calls, calls that never had a chance from the huddle break. Running into 8, 9 or 10 in the box when you need a yard. Throwing a short pass short by a lot when trying to get 1st down and one DB or multiple are all over the WR.

But ... Keep going with that generalization poop.

I wasn't a Dallas fan during Super Bowl V but I remember Super Bowls 10 and 13 like they happened yesterday. Like you, those losses were agonizing. However, no regular season or playoff loss would prevent me from wanting the team to win even when the odds are insurmountable. You play the game to win. You must play for the opportunity to succeed. That's sports. That's football. It's certainly not waiting for a king and an ace to finally land so you can call blackjack.

I agree it is painful I just don't see how it is any more painful to lose in playoffs and then watch other playing the SB. I certainly do not see it any less painful to know your team is not even good enough to make the post season. There is no way around it, losing sucks I just figure if my team is going to lose I would rather it be in the SB. lol

Dallas has ran the ball well even vs 8 and 9 in the box this season. Game one people had a cow because on 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2 Dallas passed instead of running. Fact is if Dallas fails to pick up a need 1st or what ever then everyone has the play that would have worked. lol . Dallas has thown short of 1st downs and picked them up as well. Others around the league do this just as well sometimes the coverage the QB is seeing it is better to go short of the marker and let the WR or TE try to pick it up vs throwing into the teeth of the coverage. Again these men are not stupid they have played the game and spent much of their lives dedicated to this game they do have a clue and frankly much more than couch potatoes sitting in their living rooms. lol

If I were told in advance that my team would not win the SB but I could choose their last game, I'd pick losing the SB. But I don't have that luxury. I get my hopes up too high in a SB game to have those hopes dashed. Again, I'm just speaking about me and how I react. Finishing atop the NFC I suppose is it's own reward but it's never the goal.

I agree losing the SB hurts I just have not found a loss that doesn't. I understand we are all different and react differently. Last time I can honestly say I cried after a game like some little girl was the NFC Championship 1982 season when Dallas fell to Washington 31 to 17. Even the 9ers game the season before did not hurt that bad that honestly was a great game, if you had no ties to either team and was just watching as a football fan that game vs 9ers was a great game with 2 very good teams. Washington game just down right hurt. lol

Damn dude, now you are stirring some bad memories in me. It's okay... it's all good now days. The '82 loss to SF was the most painful non-SB loss I have ever experienced. Damn you Dwight Clark. Maybe it hurt more just because I was a kid then. That was the last Cowboys loss that really hurt me. Even losing the '94 NFC championship game to SF didn't hurt that bad... maybe because the '94 game started out so bad.

It took time on the 9ers game but as I said when they would replay the game and you just sit back watching it you realize just how good of a game that was. The NFC Championship vs Commanders there was nothing good about it. Dexter Mannly and Charles Mann were all over Danny in that game and having 2 brothers at my house who were Commander fans was not helping matters. lol

I remember that game... it was the third NFC title game in a row that we lost. I was more mad than hurt.

and fans are high if they think making the SB is an easy task. lol

Thing even funnier is most of those who predicted nothing but doom and gloom for the season are claiming going to the SB and not winning would be a failure this after some predicted 5-11 and 6-10 season. A SB would have to be considered way above any and all of their expectations yet chances are would be whaling and going on about how Jerry, Romo and Garrett need to go because they did not win the SB. lol

That is true too..

I am totally surprised by this season. But, I am one of those gloom and doom, but, in no way do I see Dallas playing in the Super Bowl.

If they made it, it would be well beyond my expectation. I went into the season looking to win the NFC East and hopefully an outside shot at a trip to the NFC Championship game. Even now I'm not thinking of SB but hopefully that changes we will see.

OH, it would be absolutely insane if they did. But, I don't even see playoffs. But. being wrong would be fine.

I see the playoffs I think this team has the talent and now the OL to let that talent come up big. Defense I think will continue to improve.
