Osweiler carries a cap hit of $19MM this year and a $25MM dead cap hit if cut. What the hell was Houston thinking?
Reminder - Houston takes the hit on any bonus $$$$$.

The real question is would Houston be that stupid to do the deal.
HOU gets:
Tony Romo
DAL gets:
Brock Osweiler
HOU 2017s 1st Round Pick (25 overall)
HOU 2017s 3rd Round Pick (89th overall)
16m of Osweiler's 25m cap hit is his guaranteed contract.......DAL would take that 16m on in a tradeReminder - Houston takes the hit on any bonus $$$$$.
Of course it is worth it if he wins you a Superbowl. However, Romo has won 2 playoff games in his entire career so I'm not sure you can assume that Romo will even get them to the Superbowl. I think that only 2 QBs Romo's age have even won a Superbowl and that was Payton Manning and Tom Brady. Romo is not Manning or Brady. Romo is one hit away from career over. Romo would be wise to retire and enjoy life while he can still pick up his children. Is a Super Bowl worth a 1st and 3rd?.....for HOU it is........that is the gamble
The best quarterback in the history of the franchise (statistically speaking), the second highest rated quarterback (min. 100 starts) and a top 10 NFL quarterback today which will make the Texans an immediate championship contender for the next 2-3 seasons plus we take the horrible contract of theirs and their quarterback who was benched and booed at the end of last season for a 1st round pick?
Why wouldn't Houston do that? Minnesota paid way more for an inferior player, it is very possible.
I wouyld. but the question would if Houston is stupid enough to do this trade.HOU gets:

I like your sig quoteThe Texans take a $25 million hit if they trade or release Osweiler, which is $6 million more than it would cost to keep him this year. Next year would be the ideal time for Houston to get out from under that contract (with a savings of $15 million).
If for some reason Houston was willing to take that hit (say because of a favorable restructure by Romo), Dallas would face the issue of Osweiler having a $16 million base salary this year. The only way it would be possible is if he were willing to completely redo his deal.
So, if Romo restructures where he only cost Houston around $5 million, Osweiller restructures where he only costs us around $3 million and Houston offers their first and third, sure I'd go for that.
yeah.....the last 2....the cerebral part of the game has been mastered by these guysI think that only 2 QBs Romo's age have even won a Superbowl and that was Payton Manning and Tom Brady

It's $18mm next year and the only thing guaranteed is his salary this year. We'd be swallowing that money for a backup and a 1st and 3rd. Of course you do it if you can. And it would cheapen the draft compensation...but that's still a great haul. You would of course cut him or demand a renegotiation (not restructure) after the season no questions asked.I believe Osweiler's has his salary somewhere in the area of $19mil next season.
Wouldn't do it and I love Donald.A better trade idea. Who here is willing to trade Romo, our 1st,. and 2nd round pick to the Rams for Aaron Donald?

forgot about Quinn. Everything i keep hearing is how will Donald fit in a 3-4. Don't see the Rams giving up Donald for cheap. Especially to team in the same conference.Wouldn't do it and I love Donald.
But since the Rams are on the brain, I would see if Robert Quinn were available. He is not going to be a 3-4 DE and might not have the capacity to be a 3-4 OLB. And he is making good coin.
