Coop and Lamb are here
Gallup definitely walks
Wilson walks if he asks for too much
Brown walks

we should spend no more than a 3-5 pick in WR

and Cooper is the better rout runner. I would also say Cooper contract likely gets restructured to free up cap space.
The Cowboys decisions on players for most of the past decade are about total cost of ownership, not immediate cap implications.

Managing the cap is really about the average cost of players relative to the NFL cap.
Avg Cost = Total Paid to Player divided by number of years played

Avg Cost is different than contract average because players often don't make it to the end of their contract.

Because the cap increases over time, more years on the contract lowers the player cost relative to the cap (if the player remains for most or all of the contract years).

Total cost to keep Cooper in 2022 is the amount of his base contract (20M).
- That amount gets added to the Cowboys cap at some point with or without restructuring.

It's route......and prove he runs better routes........we can't and you know this.

The onus to prove something is on the person that disagree with the general consensus.
- On this topic, the majority of people believe that Cooper is the better route runner.

Note: Aikman has said repeatedly that Cooper is the best route runner in the league.

Looks like the Packers hit on 6 of the 19 WRs they drafted.
4 of 4 on 2nd round WRs.

Ty Montgomery was a productive utility player for them.
- They played him more at RB than WR in part because they needed a RB.

They've had a few that were serviceable 4th/5th WR types for them such as Equanimeous St. Brown, etc..

Rnd.. Player
2 ….. Davante Adams
2 ….. Randall Cobb
2 ….. Jordy Nelson
2 ….. Greg Jennings
3 ….. Ty Montgomery
3 ….. James Jones
5 ….. Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Also, UDFA, Allen Lazard has become a key player for them even if he doesn't have big stats.

McCarthy likes to draft WRs and usually big WRs.

Notes about Green Bay drafts in McCarthy era:
10 of 13 years they drafted at least 1 WR.
8 of 13 years they drafted 2 or more WRs.
12 WRs in McCarthy's final 6 years.
Only 1 drafted WR under 6' (Randall Cobb).
Drafted 3 WRs in 2018 and signed UDFA Allen Lazard (6'5, 227).

Green Bay WRs drafted during McCarthy's tenure as Head Coach
Year ….. Ht …... Wt …..... Player
2018 ….. 6'3 ….. 205 ….. J'Mon Moore
2018 ….. 6'4 ….. 206 ….. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
2018 ….. 6'5 ….. 214 ….. Equanimeous St. Brown
2017 ….. 6'1 ….. 220 ….. DeAngelo Yancey
2017 ….. 6'2 ….. 196 ….. Malachi Dupre
2016 ….. 6'1 ….. 188 ….. Trevor Davis
2015 ….. 6'0 ….. 216 ….. Ty Montgomery
2014 ….. 6'1 ….. 215 ….. Davante Adams
2014 ….. 6'1 ….. 195 ….. Jared Abbrederis
2014 ….. 6'3 ….. 219 ….. Jeff Janis
2013 ….. 6'2 ….. 215 ….. Charles Johnson
2013 ….. 6'1 ….. 207 ….. Kevin Dorsey
2011 ….. 5'10 ….. 195 ….. Randall Cobb
2008 ….. 6'3 ….. 217 ….. Jordy Nelson
2008 ….. 6'1 ….. 200 ….. Brett Swain
2007 ….. 6'1 ….. 208 ….. James Jones
2007 ….. 6'1 ….. 190 ….. David Clowney
2006 ….. 6'0 ….. 198 ….. Greg Jennings
2006 ….. 6'0 ….. 188 ….. Cory Rodgers

Well with Favre and then Rogers at the helm it's not really surprising they drafted so many WR's.

We were fine without Gallup to start the year so it should be fine moving past him this offseason. But they'll need to draft a guy or 2, maybe bring back or bring in a free agent and see if Simi developed at all. They should watch what happens to Gallup and be open to bringing him back at the right price like the Steelers did with Schuster.

The last few years with more and more passing in college you see more developed receivers
Picking late in first a WR could very well be BPA
May not be biggest need but I never like drafting for need anyway
Just take best player
Coaches can figure out how to get them on the field

WRs may be the second most important position in today’s NFL. Look at how Tampa and Arizona have struggled without their top WRs. Look how we struggled without Amari. Tennessee stopped scoring when they lost Julio and AJ Brown. I hope McCarthy spends significant picks on RBs and WRs.

I never draft for need
Almost always fails
Draft the best player on the board or if value is there move up or down
But we got taco by drafting need and he’s just the latest example
The draft is about adding talent, if that talent fits a need then all the better
If the best player at 32 is a WR, LB, OT, TE then great
It won’t likely be a RB though at some point I’d consider a RB but I think especially in the top 4 rounds you get the best player and figure out the usage after the draft

I think Coop is the key. Keep him in place at 1 and any combination of other wr's works at 2 and 3.

i think it's more about Wil McClay than it is McCarthy. .imo.

Whether trade, draft or FA, ..he's the leading one responsible for the talent pool coming here. o_O

No, he's not.

IMO.... They're pretty equal. Gallup is younger.
The larger the sample size the more I believe that there is no way we will keep Gallup over Cooper regardless of the cap ramifications. Cooper is a much more valuable, better player than Gallup, in my opinion. Although Amari does “disappear” from tune to time.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we spent a top 50 pick on a WR in 2022.

If you think he is the next Justin Jefferson, you pull the trigger on him and rush the card to the podium, unless there is a higher rated player on your board.

Sometimes I wear the star on my sleeve.

I like the dude. Hate to see him go......he's quality people.

1) All these WRs have different talents/skillsets which makes them a great Big 3.
2) Gallup doesn't draw team's 3rd best CB, CeeDee does.
3) Risen already said it, McCarthy had nothing to do with drafts in GB.

The best part about Gallup being out earlier in the season was #88 getting snaps on the outside to see what he can do out there. I think once MG is gone they need to find a fast, shifty guy in the slot to add an explosive option to the passing game. Also, they'll need a guy who can go up and highpoint passes like MG.

Gallup is no where near the route runner that Cooper is, plus to much dead money if we cut Coop. Unfortunately, I think Gallup is gone, but his skill set is easier to replace than Coop's.
Agreed, just like Harper long ago...he will think that money talks instead of quality team pride. Save some money to repair the offensive line would better serve Gallups. A ring or two defines many a player's career. Everyone is making Banking Executives money today...
