10. Xavier Woods, S, Louisiana Tech (Round 6, pick No. 191)

Another free safety/slot prospect, Woods showed great ball skills in both roles at Louisiana Tech, finishing with 14 interceptions and 10 pass breakups on 127 targets over the last three years. Woods’ 85.0 PFF coverage grade ranked 16th among safeties last season, and he adds a movable piece to the Dallas secondary that received an impressive overhaul in the draft. We expected Woods to come off the board much earlier than the sixth round, so expect him to compete for immediate playing time for the Cowboys.

I'm a recent Louisiana Tech grad who had many classes w/ Xavier and y'all got a great one. He was always the smartest guy in the room. It was a good thing there was never a curve or he would've killed it and he made a 39 on his Wonderlic

I homered out when we picked Woods, can't lie.

I also think in this era you can't have too many smart guys that can cover and take the ball away. Free safety/slot my butt, if he can play he'll see the field on passing downs. Probably in Dime packages starting off.

I was beyond surprised his teammate at LaTech, Trent Taylor, got drafted before him (49ers in the 5th round)

I'm not too impressed. I'm not saying guys can't come from a small school and produce, but his production is against future used car salesmen and accountants. His most productive games came against UTEP and UNT.

From the videos I have seen, he seems really slow to react and doesn't wrap up. Some atrocious angles in pursuit, as well. To me, he looks like JJ Wilcox, which I guess is fine, considering where he was taken.

I hope this was just a bad day for him. Burned multiple times and not a factor at all in run support.

I completely spazzed out when we moved up for Woods. I have a pretty narrow type of DB that I really, really like in the draft. I played DB most of my life. I played it in Jr. High, High School and Jr. College (along with some WR and LB at times). I Specifically look for certain traits/intangibles and to get them all in a prospect isn't very common... particularly outside of round 1.

Woods had everything that I like in a safety (although an inch or two and 10 pounds wouldn't have hurt). His play speed, love of the game, fearless play, competitive nature, ball skills, good film and multiple years playing well, had me really wanting him in the 4th. To add a pick in the 6th and take him was an extremely happy moment for me, lol.

Actually, Awuzie, Lewis and Woods all pretty much fit exactly what I want in a DB. Getting all 3 was incredible. I would have been thrilled with all 3 way earlier than what we actually picked them.

I'm not gonna lie... I don't see how you watch this guy and think that. I won't argue with you about it though.

We'll just have to wait and see how he does in Dallas.

If you're into cherry picking you should check out his game in 2015 against the Dak Prescott led Miss State

Cool.

Intelligence is a big issue with Safeties. There are a decent number of players that come out of college with the physical ability to player Safety, but few with the right mental makeup.

Is there a back story to this video? Was Dallas his top choice? Did he have 32 different backpacks w hats inside them?
don't know, half his family is Cowboys fans and the other half loves Saints. He probably just had a good feeling about Dallas and a few teams

Add Willie Roaf too.

LaTECH is no joke. They land some really good talent each season. I wish I could say the same for my alma mater just east a bit down I-20. :(:)
