XFL - returning 2020

Agreed. It has no ring to it, but they're bringing in some pretty solid names. Mike Vick, Trent Richardson, Bill Pollian. Hopefully it is a success.

WooHoo! We can see a dog killer and a crap RB! I’m surely on board. /s

My 10 year plan is to be actually watching a football game, with a team and owner who actually goes get the best of the best, writes the checks and a league that lets the teams play, without all the mamby pamby fluff of the NFL... I hardly ever watch a cowboy game any longer, due to all the reasons drafted on these forums, so if an alternate comes and it gets back to what the game was all about, I'll be picking a team and watching it over this garbage being served up year after year in Dallas...and NO I didn't say I was leaving the fan base, just retireing to something that won't have me wanting to kill my neighbor and beat my furniture to pieces...

XFL reveals cities -

Dallas, TX
Houston, TX
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
St. Louis, MO
Seattle, WA
Tampa Bay, FL
Washington, DC

For a period of time yesterday, the XFL's website listed team contacts that apparently spoiled the resurrected league's host cities. If the cities prove to be correct, they will be:

Dallas, TX
Houston, TX
Los Angeles, CA
New York, NY
St. Louis, MO
Seattle, WA
Tampa Bay, FL
Washington, DC

The XFL will be hosting an official press conference to announce the host cities and team names this Wednesday at 12 PM Eastern from Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ with Vince McMahon and League Commissioner Oliver Luck scheduled to appear.

well it depends a lot on the uniforms, if a league used the classic older style NFL look for uniforms, and come up
with good names mascots, nice looking helmets, good coaches, then I would watch.

but what I would expect to see is silly uniforms helmets names and same dumb type coaches.
I really dislike the new nfl helmets, and I hate the nike check symbol on everything, and they have ruined most NFL uniforms.
many teams dont even use their normal team colors !
like the eagles have a black uniform with some microsopic green trim lol.
that isnt sane, they just changed colors, and on a tv it is just a black uniform you have to see the helmet up close to know who it is.
Then the stupid color rush crap and throw backs, nike is making money, but they have ruined the nfl look which made them unique.

Must be nice to have 500 million to just throw away. Chump change. Sick.

Like Chris Rock said, if the people knew how the rich really lived, there'd be a revolution.

Agreed largely, but you have to remember, WWE as a whole was worth less than a billion 5 years ago.

It is the change in the entertainment landscape that opened this window.

Same, but instead - both Houston and Dallas are getting one!

Very surprised to see them want a team directly in NYC. Rumors of MSG / Barclays Arena as the home-base are abound.

I know the XFL will own all the teams, but can you imagine if JJ can buy in for the Dallas franchise!? I would love it!

Is there anything in the NFL contract that prevents him from doing so?

We all know that Jerry has a friendship with McMahon.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a Trump owning the NYC franchise.

I bet Cuban would get in on the Houston one also. They would help bring in loads of fans.

KEY XFL developments from today's press conference -

*New York, playing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

*Washington, DC, playing at Audi Field.

*Los Angeles, playing at the StubHub Center.

*Houston, playing at TDECU Stadium.

*St. Louis, playing at The Dome at America's Center.

*Seattle, playing at Century Link Field.

*Dallas, playing at Globe Life Park.

*Tampa, playing at Raymond James Stadium.

Team names will be revealed in the future and will not be former XFL team names being resurrected. The XFL website is already selling merchandise branded for each city and Twitter accounts for each XFL market have been officially launched.

It was noted during the press conference that they intend to be a compliment, not opposition to the NFL and college football and will launch their first season the week after the 2020 Super Bowl.

During the conference, Vince McMahon pushed the idea that technology and the landscape of TV has changed in the "20 years" since the initial XFL was announced and that there is long-term financial backing as well as lots more opportunities for live sports programming on television compared to the early 2000s.

The plan is to speed the gameplay up, to minimize "idle time" during the game and use technology to improve the safety of those playing for the XFL's teams. They pushed the XFL will be "family friendly."

There will be 45 players on each team with 10 weeks of regular play and two weeks of playoffs. Each team will have a practice squad of seven players as well.

The XFL website is already selling season tickets as well.

I’m a little surprised that they are looking to put their teams in already established NFL markets, even going as far as playing in NFL stadiums. But I guess if the idea is to have their season during the NFL’s off season then they don’t have to compete directly with TV ratings (though I think the AAL or whatever is trying to do the same thing)

Sounds like football will now be a year round sport. I’m good with it!

But isn’t AAL arena? If so, while it can be entertaining with high scoring and all that, I just miss the defensive game and great running backs.

Sorry - I meant the AAF (Alliance of American Football), the new "G" league for the NFL. Bill Polian and some former players/execs are creating a league that will mostly function as a developmental gig from what I understand. Steve Spurrier will be coaching one of the teams lol

I don't think there is a rule, but he couldn't operate the Dallas team as a minor league team.

So say if the Cowboys wanted to sign a player from XFL-Dallas he would have to clear waivers of all 31 NFL teams. Just like when Jerry owned the Dallas Desperados of the Arena Football Leauge

One factor is based on scheduling (XFL winter / spring, CFL summer / fall) permitting players to play in both.

Could get interesting if this gets the green light. You'll essentially have a year-round development league, where players at minimum are earning ~300k for participating, maybe forcing the NFL bumping up practice squad and minimum salaries.

A football field at the Rangers stadium? What's wrong with the Cotton Bowl or Gerald J Ford stadium?

And Seattle? Portland would have been a good fit
