Honestly, I don’t think it mattered when DB was released.

I still think he’d unsigned by this point regardless if it happened at the beginning of the offseason.

But...but...Dez is a "number 1" receiver. I thought teams would be lining up around the block to sign a player of his talent if the Cowboys released him.

By several accounts Dez had an offer from Baltimore but overplayed his hand. He's the reason he's still unemployed, not the Cowboys.

Ahh. The old “but...but” routine employed by cornballs internet wide. Good stuff

Agreed. But I figured if something is out there....and its still offseason in a way.. I'd post it.

My opinion is if they knew they could have released him earlier...especially for what he had done for the team. But overall I never really feel sorry for these guys and he did turn down big cash because it didn't fit his "revenge" agenda.

Yup, he could've been on the Ravens, but, at this point, he'll be making much less than he would've if he had just taken the paycut. That's the stupid part about it. He wanted more money? Okay, then take the paycut this year, play your butt off, and more teams will bite.

Here is something to think about. If teams wait until injury and bring Dez on without a full off season, and training camp, he will fail.

Dez is that kid who was moved to the other end of the room in grade school and the teacher worked with him. If Dez doesn't get that work, what does he bring? I have heard from the local "coaches" here that he runs all these routes. I have seen video by people who are not pros, but just fan wannabes telling me all the routes he ran.

I have seem three years of Dez injuries and poor production.

The team was making comments about working with Dez. But again, this is an eight year pro, and the team is getting a new WR coach and they have to get Dez' mind right to go out and do what he should be doing anyway.

They gave you more money than most people earn in a life time. That means something.

Think Jerry had to EVER ask Irvin to earn his paycheck?

If you are a Dez fan and this irritates you. I apologize. But truth is I had been souring on this guy over the 2017 season. Now watching the All or Nothing this just confirms this is a child-like mind in a guy who once had immense talent.

And consider this, For Jones to agree to send one of his favorites packing, there had to be enough cause that the other people in the room convinced him this was a positive move. Jones doesn't let go of his pet cats easily. And that may be why they waited to release him. Jerry needed further convincing.

But the onus falls on Dez and his attitude and behavior. And what the team had to go through to get the guy to perform.

That woman you're dating may turn heads when your out, and may be the best lay you ever had. But if she is a whiny biatch that is always negative and never satisfied, you fire her. There are just too many good women who back their guy and are positive to put up with Ms. Thing.

Evidently the team found a few of them.

Dak isn't known for his accuracy beyond 10 yards of the LOS.

Coming in at No. 2 is Dak Prescott. Prescott's sophomore season has gotten a reputation as being a step down from his rookie campaign, but his downfield accuracy was actually terrific. He had zero inaccurate completions, and his accuracy was extremely successful against pressure and into tight windows. He took a massive step up on downfield passing in Year Número Dos.

I mean, I don't think Dez did anything between the beginning of FA and when he ultimately got cut after the peak FA period was over.
and i don't think jones said "hey, let's jack with dez and put this off to the last minute" either.

dez put himself in a questionable position with how many games less than 100 yards and how many outbursts and off the field issues? if he was winning you get away with that. if not, you don't. not the cowboys law, but a universal one.

I don't really either. I think it maybe accurate that it took the time to convince Jerry, but them the timing of the Sammy Watkins attempt doesn't jive.

it probably simply came down to a business decision. do we keep him or not and i'm sure it wasn't a slam dunk either way. the fact we were looking for a top WR was a huge signal to dez. dez turning down baltimore may come back to haunt him.

if dez were still the star he believe he is, he would have a new home by now. he doesn't.

sucks to be him.

Hate to belabor Dez stuff but since this was a stance some took here, I thought I’d at least report the article for board consumption

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/jerry-...boys-late-release-hurt-chances-150622751.html

But the Cowboys waited more than a month into free agency to cut him. Why? We really don’t know. The Cowboys have talked around that, but again, if they weren’t going to keep Bryant on a pay cut, there was no real reason to wait other than indecision. By April 13, the bulk of NFL free agency is done. Cutting Bryant late wasn’t a help to the Cowboys, who couldn’t use the cap savings on any top-shelf free agents, and it sure didn’t help Bryant.

I feel for Dez ... look, a bird!!!

The article is about the timing of the release and it makes no sense to wait as long as they did. It didn't benefit either party by the time they did it.

That’s a good point.

In my opinion, If you bring in dez at the last minute and hope he’s going to know your system and have any chemistry with a qb, that’s wishful thinking. Dude will be out there linedup and just fighting with a cb running 10 yard go routes all games. Passes to him in those situations are drive killers because they are so inconsistent.

I thought they should have kept him another year, but the frequent references to Jerry not even offering to retain him at a lower salary is BS. Dez/his agent made it pretty clear he would not accept a pay cut prior to their meeting. If that was just PR bluster, too bad - his bluff was called. Jerry not offering him one was either because he was convinced it was futile and he didn't want to get turned down - or he was doing Dez a favor by not re-establishing a lower value for Dez just before he hit the market. Either way, not getting an opportunity to stay at a lower salary is 100% on Dez.
