Hamlin replaces Taylor for Pro Bowl
January 3, 2008
DALLAS (TICKER) -- Dallas Cowboys free safety Ken Hamlin will start at free safety for the NFC in the Pro Bowl, the Cowboys announced Thursday.
Hamlin replaces the late Sean Taylor, who was voted into the game as a starter, receiving the most votes at the position in balloting among fans, players and coaches.
Taylor, a former Washington Commanders' safety, died on November 27 after being shot during a burglary at his home.
He is believed to be the first player in any sport to make an all-star team posthumously since Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Pelle Lindbergh in 1986. Lindbergh was killed in an car accident in November 1985.
Hamlin will be making his first Pro Bowl appearance.
The Cowboys also announced that strong safety Roy Williams will take Taylor's spot on the NFC's Pro Bowl roster.
Williams, who served a one-game suspension late in the season for a horse collar tackle on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, will be making his fifth appearance in Hawaii.
