Yakuza Rich: I was dead wrong on Romo

After the week 2 loss to the G-Men, I announced that I felt that the Cowboys needed to start looking for a suitable replacement for Romo in the offseason. I also stated that if he proved me wrong, then I would admit that I was indeed wrong.

Well, here I am with this post admitting I was dead wrong.

Obviously, the team hasn't 'done anything', yet. However, Romo has proven to me that he can get it done in December and beyond and I feel that way even though the team is 2-2 so far in December with one game left.

I just feel that Romo's play after that week 2 loss, particularly this December, warrants an admission of error. At the time I felt that Romo turned the ball over too much, had lost his ability to anticipate on throws, and was not a good leader.

Again, that's obviously incorrect now. He has the second best INT rate (next to Aaron Rodgers) and hasn't really fumbled the ball much this year. His anticipation came back once Miles Austin was named the starter. And he's been a much more noticeable vocal leader of the team. I didn't think he had any of these qualities in him.

But, I was dead wrong.

So I would like to be up front about my errors in judgement and could perfectly understand if my credibility towards my opinions on QB's are questioned. I'd also like to mention that posters like theogt and casmith were correct while I was obviously wrong. And if I forgot to mention anybody else that disputed my claims, then I apologize.

Lastly, feel free to bump this thread since I want it made clear that I am a man of my word and that when I said I would post that I was dead wrong on Romo that I meant it and I do not want this thread to get lost in the shuffle.

Sincerely

Not really sure there is a reason to "man up".

People make prediction and offer opinions about this team every day.

Regardless, I remember when you made the comments about Tony Romo and I was quite shocked.

Tony Romo was never the problem with this team.

You could tell from the start of the year that fumbling was one of the big issues Tony was working on. Before when he would scramble and keep plays alive he'd keep that ball to his side and rarely ever try and tuck it in. Now every time he makes something happen either in the pocket or on the run he tucks that ball instead of waving it around like a flag.

Major respect to you for that post Rich. That is a real classy move.

One of the best things, last night, in regards to his leadership was that play right before the half where he threw the ball to Miles and instead of turning and running to the sideline (which he had the room to do) Miles ran to the middle of the field and got tackled and kept the Cowboys from kicking a field goal. Romo went right to him, as they were leaving the field, and was getting on him (not in a mean manner or anything) about how he has to get out of bounds there. He was getting on him about it and I loved seeing that cause he was even willing to get on his playmaking WR and let him know what needs to be done.

I saw that happen as well and immediately thought of Troy hopping on anyone and everyone if they didn't make the right decision.

We have something special here folks.

Rich, I was on you as well for your questionable comments about Romo. Impressed with your post.

I just wish more people would realize just how good we are at the QB position. I don't think I'd rather have anyone else at QB other than Tony right now.

My question is, the next time Romo has a 3-4 turnover game (and it will happen, as it does with ALL qbs), will we hear about how much he is destroying the franchise again?

I believe Romo will have a 3-4 turnover game because like you said, it happens to all QB's. But, I am convinced now that it will just be one bad game due to being a normal human being and not because he's careless with the ball.
