Tell me first how much to sign AP for 2 years.

I think Murray is a good back but lacks explosiveness to be elite. So I wouldn't pay elite money for him. I rather franchise him for a year and see what happens if it's necessary.

4 yr 32 million is Matt Forte money which is reasonable but I think AP is an upgrade and maybe able to get for shorter term because of his current legal issue.

AP has way less tread. I'd take a 26 year old Murray over AP at this point.

No, I wouldn't do that.

That's over $9 million per year. I can franchise him (twice, even), pay him not much more than that and have no cap obligation in out-years.

All he has to do is meet Jerry at a club supply some young woman and buy the Walker Blue. He will get the top money for NFL RBs.

I don't mind the contract numbers but there's no way I guarantee 20 million on that contract. Murray has yet to play a full season. I like the kid and I really hope to retain him, but there have to be some escalators and incentives built in for him to cash in, IMO. If someone else wants to swoop in and give him a ridiculous contract then you let him walk. It's bad business to invest that much in a guy who hasn't finished ONE full season in his entire tenure here.

But I take 2 yrs of AP versus 4 yrs of Murray. Murray has only been healthy this year and that's it. I am not sure I give long term money to a player with that type of history.

the guaranteed is too high. I think he gets 4 years $30 million with 15 million guaranteed. Note: this might not be Dallas doing the signing.

I would. Besides being a very talented player in his physical prime, he is also selfless, a hard worker, and a good role model for how a professional should act for younger players. He is the kind of guy you want on your team..

The guarantee is high but if you back-load the rest in the final year, it wouldn't be too bad.

If your the GM do you do it?

Seems too high but If the base salary for the first three years were $500,000, $750,000 & 1,000,000 respectively, I might be tempted depending upon how the overall cap was looking and how it effected my ability to keep the team from being too top heavy with a few salaries.

Man, if Romo would tear up his current contract and give the team an aggressively friendly deal like Brady did, it would be so great for the overall cap plus he would set a precedent for other players to follow suit while also freeing up cap space for the team to sign other players.

The players need to be sold on the fact there is no other team in the league that will give them more market exposure for outside earning opportunities and if they can find a way to get a Super Bowl victory, everyone on the team will benefit financially for years

That is such a ridiculous number for a RB who, just based on yards before contact, would still be leading the NFL in rushing or very close to it.

You could probably sign both Lynch and Peterson for that money.

Murray might get 10 mill guaranteed or a little more on the open market if someone overpays, but his contract numbers will be much closer to half that figure.

I would give him a way lower total hit but keep the guaranteed amount high.

4 years, 24 million with 15-16 G.

So no, I would not give him the 4yr-38 million deal.

Matt Forte - who plays the exact same game as Murray - was 26 and far more important to the Bears than Murray is to the Cowboys when he signed his contract. His was 4 for $32M and $17 guaranteed. If I was Jerruh, I would have a very hard time giving Murray more than that, especially since a couple of really good backs are going to be free agents as well.
