Last year's Draft I was shocked that we took Isaiah Stanback as a WR. My reason is simple, I really thought he was going to be a RB in the NFL. I think he would be much more suited to do that.

Watch the running plays in this video.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vDxyA_PUIUw

The guy has great feel for the lanes and really outstanding footwork. Plus he can run a Halfback Option pass and go out into pass patterns once in a while. If you line him up in the backfield like we do Owens and then send him in motion it is going to be a LB who shadows him, not a DB like they do with Owens.

Think about him on blitz pickups too. He saw them as a QB. He will recognize them better. He's read them his entire life as a QB.

I'd move him to RB and make him the Tyson Thompson or 3rd RB and see if he could maybe even be Barber's backup. The guy can fly.

As the 3rd RB he also has more of a chance of being on the game day roster and there could be an emergency QB if we need one.

If you want to tell me I'm crazy I will understand, but I always envisioned him as a RB. Just thought I'd share.

I'm for any way they can have this guy on the active gameday roster! Speed is the toughest thing to defend besides Barry Sanders-ish quickness!

Get this guy in the game plan somehow!

I don't know about the RB thing, but I hope he proves he can see the field next season. With the speed and the moves he should be able to fit in at slot WR, KR, PR or something productive.

I wouldn't call it hair-brained. The guy has rare talent so they need to find a way to get him on the field. He could be their Preston Pearson/Ron Springs/Richie Anderson but with speed!

Dude, Preston Pearson is exactly who he reminds me of. If you have any footage of Preston running, watch the way he sets people up for a move with a head fake and then watch Stanback. I swear, it's the same easy movement. Nice call.

..scary..

:p:

Nope I think we sit pat with Stanback and don't change anything about him and hope for the best.

No thinking out of the box allowed here, you know that.

I couldn't help it. The box was wet cardboard and I got out.

Preston Pearson was unstoppable as a 3rd down back. I think Stanback could be such a player. However, he might turn out to be an outstanding wr.

I prefer to have his size and speed at WR IF he can master his route running, catch the ball and block downfield. If he can't do those things I'd certainly be willing to see him at RB. I'm really anxious to see him on the field in some capacity.

Pearson was smooth. Stanback has the same size and smoothness when he runs. I like the possibilities.

Let him play WR right now, but get him some reps behind center if his foot is healed., too.

I thought he threw the ball pretty well in those clips..good release and quick feet to know when to getaway from the pass rush. His mechanics won't wow the coaches, but still, playmakers don't always have to be prototype.

Right, Romo..?

Heck, if he makes any sort of good impression at QB as a #3, let him challenge for the #2 position at QB next year.

He looks like a taller version of Michael Vick to me, with maybe a better arm and much taller.

Whether it's at WR, RB or perhaps even some of both, I just want to see what Stanback can do after all the comments/props we heard Ireland give him. Get him out on the field in preseason and let's see what he can do.

Hes definetely a great athlete and is a big dude as well.

If he has the ability to play receiver with that size and speed he could be incredibly tough for DB's to handle.

He really doesn't have the size and frame for a tailback. He'd get crushed on blitz pickups as well.

I see what you're saying though. I watched a ton of Stanback in his final season at Washington and I saw a guy that really moves his hips well, yet can long stride well. I didn't know how fast he was at the time as I couldn't tell if he was QB fast or WR fast and then seeing his 100 meter times he's extremely fast.

I had a similar though to Hos' when we took Stanback -- more that we'd be using Stanback like NO used Bush in his first year - outside runs, short passes -- tons of stuff to simply get the ball in his hands.

I really want to see this guy get some PT in 2008. I need to see that 4.58 speed that I keep getting told about.

It could work Hos, however, when I watched him in San Antonio up close (although he just ran drills) as he was in rehab, Stanback body look had more of a T.O. impression vs say a MBIII type......I believe our coaching staff did the right thing just by looking at him.

But, those video clips does display rb moves.........Go Cowboys

I do get what you and Yakuza are saying about his body type. In that respect he reminds me of Herschel Walker. Just a solid slab or granite in human form. If he gets his wings as a WR great. Just saying where I thought he'd end up. Height like his at RB is a deterrent in a lot of ways. The kid has incredible running skills in the open field though.

He definitely has the attributes to play wr and even rb however his body type may not be able to take the pounding unless he is a third string runner. He has so much athleticism he could just about do anything.
