He really doesn't have the size and frame for a tailback. He'd get crushed on blitz pickups as well.

I see what you're saying though. I watched a ton of Stanback in his final season at Washington and I saw a guy that really moves his hips well, yet can long stride well. I didn't know how fast he was at the time as I couldn't tell if he was QB fast or WR fast and then seeing his 100 meter times he's extremely fast.

YAKUZA

Didnt he get whacked on the shoulder and it was injured in his very first game time action?

Uhh, Hos....didn't we talk about this guy being put at RB last year and throwing halfback options ala Landry/Reeves/Pearson/Newhouse/yada yada yada. And even playing the slash back.

I'd love to see him doing those things. I don't know why we don't use the halfback option and screen more now. Just coaching biases I guess.

It usually takes 3 years for a WR to really come into their own.

And that's if they've been a WR in college. We are taking a project player and converting him.

And you want heads turned in 2 years?

Ok. Its your choice. But I think you might be somewhat disappointed by inconsistency etc by him this year. As for me, I'll be excited at what he can contribute.

Yeah I do.

The ones who switch from QB to WR usually have success pretty quick.

The ones who dont usually never end up even making it.

Im not asking him to be a world beater TO type receiver this year. Im just asking for him to show signs of being able to get on the field when it matters.

I couldn't help it. The box was wet cardboard and I got out.

Interesting insight. Hostile makes a lot sense. For me, they're somewhat vested into Stanback the WR at this point with him spending a year on your scout team offense.

Hopefully the 'Boys find a 2nd and 3rd RB who gives them the option to throw to out of backfield. Norv Turner's offense in the '90's featured bubble check downs or called circle routes by E. Smith a lot. That could be the element of Garrett's adaptation that we'll see in year 2 of the Redball Express.
That is what makes Felix Jones, or Chris Johnson so appealing to me.

Stanback, at WR and if developed properly, could be in TO's role within a couple of years.

Yeah we did Doc. Good memory. We talked about him holding on FG and PAT tries too.

I would like to see him getting some time at WR. That looks more like his build. But then again, if Dallas drafts well, he could have trouble just making the team, much less getting much PT.

I hear you, but I like him better in the slot. Anyway, he really is not a burner but he sure has great feet and fluidity. I see several RBs available in the draft all the way down to round 4 that I would take ahead of him as RB.

Dude, Preston Pearson is exactly who he reminds me of. If you have any footage of Preston running, watch the way he sets people up for a move with a head fake and then watch Stanback. I swear, it's the same easy movement. Nice call.
Preston Pearson was "the Man", in the mid 70's - early 80's for the 'Boys. I've met him a couple of times when on our "Cowboys Weekend Game packages", at the Gaylord Texan. An engaging guy to talk to, and he always has time for pictures and conversations!

Last year's Draft I was shocked that we took Isaiah Stanback as a WR. My reason is simple, I really thought he was going to be a RB in the NFL. I think he would be much more suited to do that.

Watch the running plays in this video.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vDxyA_PUIUw

The guy has great feel for the lanes and really outstanding footwork. Plus he can run a Halfback Option pass and go out into pass patterns once in a while. If you line him up in the backfield like we do Owens and then send him in motion it is going to be a LB who shadows him, not a DB like they do with Owens.

Think about him on blitz pickups too. He saw them as a QB. He will recognize them better. He's read them his entire life as a QB.

I'd move him to RB and make him the Tyson Thompson or 3rd RB and see if he could maybe even be Barber's backup. The guy can fly.

As the 3rd RB he also has more of a chance of being on the game day roster and there could be an emergency QB if we need one.

If you want to tell me I'm crazy I will understand, but I always envisioned him as a RB. Just thought I'd share.

Hos I think we may need to revoke your admin privileges for a day ;)

Leave the kid at wr he is developing right along :D

I was just giving you a bit of a hard time. I did forget the PATs though. It would be a good idea though esp when you are thinking about doing those go for two early in the game. But I doubt they stick him back there when we have a good holder. Still it's a good thought.

They obviously think this guy is going to develop. With the noise we heard about his practices last year maybe we have a chance to have a for real WR that we developed. Who's the last great WR Dallas has had that was drafted and developed here?

Yeah that bad.

And if TG comes around imagine TO, TG and Stanback along with Crayton and another drafted WR. Esp one like Hardy since we don't have a big, tall, fast WR on the team. Talk about dyno-mite.

Add Barber and I'm praying Stewart or more likely Johnson or Jones in the draft along with that OL and Witten and Fasano and we should have an offensive team that won't stop.

I think he may be a little too tall/scrawny to be a RB. He's not built like one. He's 6'3" and lean. A RB still needs a little bulk in order to take those hits. There are plenty of 6'3" running backs, but they're built. Compare Stanback to the likes of Stephen Jackson or even Eddie George. He's very WRish when compared to them.

One thing I do think about Stanback. He needs to wear #11.

#86 makes him look slow.
