does anyone know (as official as can be considering no one can know for sure or can they?) why the Cowboys continue with these silver-green pants despite it apparently being not functional anymore? i guess obviously its an aesthetic thing now and maybe the organization wants to "keep with tradition" with the tex schramm 80s? but can anyone talk about what they know from what is really going on there with these silver green pants? like maybe someone can share info they have from a media guide or someone talking about this that is in charge of deciding what they wear in the organization?

i would like to get to the bottom of this as much i can if it is at all possible. seems interesting. call me crazy.

I have a complete run of media guides back to 1960. None of them mention "why" the Cowboys use any particular color, they only list what the official colors are.

thanks, appreciate it. so i guess its not in the media guide as to why. someone somewhere has got to know something in regards to the why with the reason for keeping these silver-green pants today. i guess a lot of us are assuming keeping with tradition as to the why, even if its just an organizational decision started in the 80s.

also could anyone, who went to their games during the 80s or 90s (when they were wearing these pants), confirm that the pants looked silver-green in person? this might be really obvious but i never went to a game during those decades.

Unless he documented it somewhere, Tex Schramm took the why to the grave with him. As to why they keep the green, only Jerry can answer that question.

I saw this somewhere a while back and its always been one of my favorite redone uniform designs. Not a fan at all of the green pants.

I bet Nike has the technology to make a unique shade of silver blue that perfectly matches the helmet but still stands out from the flat grey look of the Lions, Patriots, Panthers, Raiders, etc.

Hello! My exact thoughts.

Yes! Quick, somebody send this to the Cowboys front office. These would be great as alternate pants.

found this link from 2010...

"Nothing's set in stone," Priakos says. "But we want the pants to look silver, to be consistent to every fan no matter if they're at the game or watching on TV, whether we're home or on the road. Of course, we'll never change the home white jerseys or the helmets, but we're experimenting with some different shades in the pants."

and they still havent changed up after that link says they were going to back in 2010

I think they did make a change. Unfortunately, rather than fixing the green pants, it appears the Cowboys have added a hint of green to the helmets. This is going in the wrong direction in my opinion.

As I was watching the Niners game, the helmets appeared to me to be slightly silver-green, as opposed to silver-blue. I think they heard all the complaints that the pants didn't match the helmets, and fixed that mis-match by adding green to the helmets, rather than taking the green out of the pants. :(

I wonder if they were just reflecting off the grass.

I don't think so.

I've been watching Cowboy games on TV for fifty years, the last ten on HDTV, many of those games on artificial turf which is a much brighter green than natural grass, and I don't recall ever seeing the Cowboy helmets with the greenish tint that I saw Sunday.

Did anyone else watch the game on Sunday and notice the greenish helmets?

Here is a picture from Sunday's game (Vaughan trying to make a tackle after he threw the pick that resulted in a TD). It isn't as obvious in this pic as it was on TV, but his helmet has a greenish tint (so does no #74):
