If you wanted a defensive player then you got a player that automatically improves the defense, by reducing the opponents number of offensive plays.

Furthermore, the defense will be better rested. Less plays mean less potential for injuries.

With a superior running game , they Cowboys can burn the clock when in a 4th quarter close game. There will be less pressure for the defense to make something happen, but they will better conditioned in the 4th quarter.

There will be better play from the backup quartetbacks because there will be far less reliance on the passing game.

There will be less potential types of plays that result in QB injury.

The receivers can create more space from defenders who cannot afford to ignore a potential run. Also, Eliott is a great receiver so the passing game will improve in that respect.

The offensive line will improve their pass blocking by ommision. Their morale and confidence improves when they get into a run blocking rythm.

Therefore, no matter who you wanted for whatever aspect of the team needs, Elliot improves that aspect.

It's a good pick for the fans and is exciting.

Not what I would've done but it's not a bad pick either.
Thanks for taking it in stride. Now that Lynch is off board now, who is the next QB consolation prize? Connor Cook is the wrong answer.

I'm not a big fan of any of these guys but if I have to pick 1 I'd go Hackenberg.

Dodd and Spence are still available and we could use both.

Not only that, there are blue chip defensive linemen available at 34 now.

If I'm the Cowboys, I try and package some picks to get another high 2nd round pick so I can get like, Spence and Dodd. Or Spence and Reed. Or Dodd and Ogbah.

I drop back in the second round. There will be a run on running backs and offensive linemen in the second. We don't need those areas. We can move down a bit, pick up a third or fourth and have more selections in the second round - OR have some picks to move back in the back end of the second round.

If were lucky he will produce at the same level Murray did at about the same cost it would have taken to keep him. The only difference is we lost our highest pick in 25 years to break even with what we had. If we are lucky.

Trying hard not to reply to this and move on but it just doesn't stop. More Zeke fixes it all. Pick Wasnt my choice but now behind it fully because he is now a Cowboy. Question: If Dez left the team, would you want to draft the best corner or pass rusher to replace him? Would that get it done for you to fix the offense?

Most importantly, this move will extend the career of Tony Romo.

McFadden is capable and Morris might be but they scare no one. The defenses would key on Romo and accept the consequences, which were minimal.

Now, they simply can't. It's not going to be like 2014. Its going to be like 1977.

Any routine running play had the potential of a Home Run. There is nothing scarier for a defense than the potential of being humiliated on the ground. They can't key on Bryant. They can't constantly blitz Romo.

There is absolutely nothing more terrifying for a DB than to be the only guy left capable of stopping Elliot from going all the way only to realize Tyron Smith and Zack Martin are between you and him....and they are heading straight for you.

Deer in the headlights are nothing compared to Eagles or Commanders or Giants or ........

Party like its 2014. The RBs get 30 carries a game and Witten and TWill see single coverage all day long. If Romo stays healthy we have a top 5 offense next year.

Nice post!

Just add one other item - Elliott will not cost you $8,000,000 plus a year like what Murray wanted.
I would not even have offered $4,000,000 a year to a guy that fumbled in his most critical moment of his most critical game.

one thing they could do early on is start mcf. wait for the defense to get tired, and midway
int 2nd qtr put elliot in and feed him the ball, runs and passes.
pretty sure drive goes for a td.

That is what parcells did with barber, late in half or end of game put a fresh barber in on a tired
defense, and it worked pretty good.
That was how barber got overated though.

either way the season just got more interesting by getting elliot.

Just to expound on something you said about creating space for the receivers, if EZY E can deliver on the talent you see in the OSU games, then this does for the 2016 Cowboys what Murray did for the 2014 Cowboys.

Puts eight in the box.

All the passing gurus focused on Romo, and he surely is a great quarterback.

But this is a team sport requiring all your players to contribute to make the scheme work. Rmo was still the best player on the field. But his stats and accomplishments were elevated because of the running game taking the pressure off of the passing game. Suddenly the team could move the ball without it being third and long.

Bingo. Zeke will add at least 10 plays per game to the offense. That's 10 less times the Defense needs to be on the field and most likely 7 more points per game. This is going to be fun to watch! And... and.. and... We are just getting started in this draft!
