If you wanted a defensive player then you got a player that automatically improves the defense, by reducing the opponents number of offensive plays.

Furthermore, the defense will be better rested. Less plays mean less potential for injuries.

With a superior running game , they Cowboys can burn the clock when in a 4th quarter close game. There will be less pressure for the defense to make something happen, but they will better conditioned in the 4th quarter.

There will be better play from the backup quartetbacks because there will be far less reliance on the passing game.

There will be less potential types of plays that result in QB injury.

The receivers can create more space from defenders who cannot afford to ignore a potential run. Also, Eliott is a great receiver so the passing game will improve in that respect.

The offensive line will improve their pass blocking by ommision. Their morale and confidence improves when they get into a run blocking rythm.

Therefore, no matter who you wanted for whatever aspect of the team needs, Elliot improves that aspect.

I couldn't have said it better.

Not only that, there are blue chip defensive linemen available at 34 now.

If I'm the Cowboys, I try and package some picks to get another high 2nd round pick so I can get like, Spence and Dodd. Or Spence and Reed. Or Dodd and Ogbah.

True, but even when we went 12-4 we really lost our chance at advancing because of a lack of pass rush. We need to either keep our guys on field and off the suspension list or address that in the next two rounds. Ramsey doesn't help that IMO so I'm okay with the Elliot pick. May have been nice to go back 2 spots and still get him.

We would not have gotten him at 6. Baltimore was going to take him.

Most importantly, this move will extend the career of Tony Romo.

McFadden is capable and Morris might be but they scare no one. The defenses would key on Romo and accept the consequences, which were minimal.

Now, they simply can't. It's not going to be like 2014. Its going to be like 1977.

Any routine running play had the potential of a Home Run. There is nothing scarier for a defense than the potential of being humiliated on the ground. They can't key on Bryant. They can't constantly blitz Romo.

There is absolutely nothing more terrifying for a DB than to be the only guy left capable of stopping Elliot from going all the way only to realize Tyron Smith and Zack Martin are between you and him....and they are heading straight for you.

Deer in the headlights are nothing compared to Eagles or Commanders or Giants or ........

AMEN!!

I'm not a big fan of any of these guys but if I have to pick 1 I'd go Hackenberg.

Dodd and Spence are still available and we could use both.

Defense is a must, now. By taking Elliott, it is all or nothing. Dallas needs starters -- play-makers, really -- on defense and it must start in the 2nd round.

Another avantage is that the position of RB is probably the one that is most "ready made going feom college to the NFL.

I beleive RB's rely on their physical abilities and instinctive reactions more than any other position. Specific. technique pertaining to vision, finding the open field and avoiding tackles are not a priority. In fact many RB's experience a "sophomore curse" because they begin to think too much instead of naturally reacting.

RB's are never groomed or developed. We knew which RB's were special in the first few games of their rookie years.

Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith and DeMarco Murray all had a 120 yard rushing game by the 6th game of their rookie years.

Only Murray was not a 1st round pick.

Only Murray did not play in at least two Super Bowls.

Hey man I agree but we almost gave up our 2nd and 3rd for Paxton Lynch.

I know, I get it. The way I see it, if Lynch was their guy, they should have taken him at #4.

They decided they are going to ride Elliott and the offense to the playoffs; why go for a backup QB with the second pick when they need defensive play-makers? I like Elliott but Tony's replacement is now in the rear view mirror. Full steam ahead with an emphasis on defensive starters in rounds 2 and 3.

The old Zeke will keep the defense fresh argument that doesn't hold water when you examine the facts...

Again, people are overestimating this whole, "Elliott keeps the defense fresh" angle just like Murray in 2014.

In 2014, the Cowboys were 3rd in time of possession at 32 minutes a game with Murray and Romo.

In 2015, the Cowboys were 10th in time of possession at 31 minutes a game with McFadden and bums at QB.

Not much difference. The whole Elliott will keep the defense on the sideline and make them better angle is overblown. There is no factual evidence to support that claim when you actually look at the stats.

It will make a huge difference because the time of possession will most likely increase higher than the 32 min per game with Elliot. Even getting it up by a few minutes will be huge as it could mean a field goal or TD given up by our defense less per game.

You're 100% correct. We missed all of that last year without Murray.

Right.

Couldn't have been that we missed Romo and Dez and had to replace them with Weeden/Cassel/Moore and Terrance Williams.

Do you really think that 2014 plays out like it did if Romo and Dez were out?
