I'll take the pick that our front 3 isn't San Diego's in creating a push, and no other LB on the team, including Ellis, is a big force in the pass-rush

I suppose you could be right. That is a possibility. However, when I keep seeing FBs become All Stars, QBs given all day to throw a pass, safeties lined up one on one against WRs, tight ends like Crumpler and not a defender within 20 yards of him and etcetera leads me to think our D coaching is sub par. I tend not to give the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless, at least we can all stop living in denial and saying that our defense is one of the tops in the NFL because it clearly is not.

Call it coaching or call it player deficiencies but something needs to be done. I really hope it is a coaching problem that can be solved a lot quicker than building a new defense.

The San Diego DL is what our's should be. I don't think there is much of a talent difference - we have gone too long with different players for me to think that. I am now on the anti zim bandwagon. He does enough to make the defense OK and appear better than it is, but we have too much talent to be playing the way we are.

Goal for next season - New Coordinators. A new defensive one and a REAL offensive one.

That is EXACTLY how I feel.

what's scheme w/o execution?

answer: not a very good D

coaches need to add more wrinkles, players need to execute and win their battles, it's that simple, yet I still see an uneven scale of blame being passed around

Plus we are grade A vanilla on defense. I was watching the Steelers and Chargers' 3-4 defenses today and it was like night and day.

But, who needs blitz disguise or stunting?

Yakuza puts it well. Thought I would quote him. Hope that is ok Yakuza???

We do not look anything like the Steelers or Chargers 3-4. That is squarely on the coaches.

I mean a team could bust out with the option and they would fail miserably at this level, but ultimately you could say the players are just not executing the option properly. Maybe not the best example, but it demonstrates what many are trying to say.

Think back to the Indy game. That was our best performance of the year. Since then, Dallas has not even played a similiar game.

Canty did well last night as did Carpenter, Ayodele looked good on some blitzes, if these three can step up their play regularly then Ware may score on many screens.

Amen, brother! I'll be pushing that aquisition as hard as you are. Adalius Thomas is one of the best players/athletes in the NFL. He already has 10 sacks, along with almost 70 tackles. Put him on the other side of Ware, play the games & stunts that SD does, then tell me if Merriman is better than Ware.

I just watched a highlight of the SD defense, and I am in complete envy. We have the athletes RIGHT NOW to run those stunts and games in putting pressure on the offense. What we're doing right now is only going to get us a win or two in the playoffs, but not the Ring. We've got to turn it loose & go after the QB in a big way up front.

Adalius Thomas would take us a long way in having a dominating, smothering defense like we had in the 90s.

Not sure why people can't accept the fact that both of these guys are very good players. I think the job Merriman has done has been great I also like what I see in Ware and damn glad he is part of this team and will be a part of this team for a long time.

I see San Diego's front 3 creating rush lanes

and most of the times just sending 4 LBs on the blitz, in a perfect alignment, straight-up, very basic

this simply is not true...they do alot of stuff up front and in their coverages that we don...so does Pittsburgh, so does New England

This really should be the Standard response to those constantly backing Zimmer/Parcells defensive schemes.

The Non-Playoff bound Commanders featured a better pass rush then we did against the Saints.

Yet the skins defense has less sacks that does Dallas on the season. No doubt skins played a great defensive game yesterday and deserve their credit but overall Washington defense has not put as much pressure on QB's than Dallas has.

not sure what games you are watching, but almost every game this year we've had no pass rush whatsoever

Not sure if you can read. I said Dallas has put more pressure on the QB than the skins who has 17 sacks on the season compare to Dallas 27 sacks. I know you hate zimmer and that is your choice but skins big time DC Greg Williams clearly is not doing a better job.

the Skins dont have half the talent we have on defense...we've also had only one injury of any consequence all year, they've had quite a few players miss time, including both starting CB's

Zimmer does less with more than any other DC in football

In your opinion other who cover the NFL disagree and I disagree. You want Zimmer gone I understand that and your entitled to that view I don't agree with it. However it does not change what I posted the skins have not put pressure on as Dallas has this year for what ever reason that is fact not myth or some made up story by me it is the truth. Dallas D has also created more TO that most defense around the NFL this year. For me I don't judge a defense by one stats as you and some other do such as sacks sorry but that is not the be all stat for any defense.
