3rd QB: I say no.

4th RB: Highly probable

6th WR: 50-50

FB: 50-50 or lower probability

9th OL: Complete unknown, If yes, then Weems

6th DE: 50-50 (does Lawrence go in short term IR?)

DT: Any chance for Minter?

LB: C. Lawerence or W. Smith

CB/Safety: Is Thomas a CB or Safety?

I'm down to 51 spots. I think Weems, DE, or WR for the final 2. The DEs would probably make it to PS, Weems and Newsome/Byrd might not; however, they are in bigger need of a DE for game 1. It would help to know to know the prognosis for Lawrence with regards to short term IR. I'm assuming that he won't go on it. I would prefer to cut Hayden if T. McClain is healthy, but I think Hayden might be Marinelli's son-in-law. They can bring a FB back in a week or two.

It will be interesting to see if Bush plays any RDE. He's been LDE and I think he has to be RDE option to make it.

My guess for top 51 in bold (I just can't decide on the final 2):

First comment, if the Cowboys don't keep Vaugham, then they are somewhat caught up in trees and losing sight of the forrest. One doesn't cut out the young/strong trees to make room for the doctoring around other trees.

And I see Thomas as a safety with much needed coverage skills to grow with.

To me, Rolando McClain's progress affects both the linebacker and secondary positional selections.

One last question, does the returned Turner enter the fullback positional decision?

thanks for the read X
I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT Jemea Thomas HAD MADE A IMPACT ALREADY

You think we keep 5 DTs? As much as I want Bishop, I think he'll go to the PS and Hayden will stay. Also, I'd move Wilber to DE permanently. At least until Lawrence and/or Spencer come back. We'll only have 3 DEs on the roster Week 1. You usually want 8 healthy DL at the game -- 4 DE, 4 DT.

When Lawrence and Spencer come back, I see us keeping 5 DEs and 4 DTs. I think we keep more DEs since we play a lot in the Nickel, so Crawford is basically a DT more than a DE. Also, around the middle of the season, if Hayden (or Bishop) is playing poorly, I see us replacing them with Brent.

My Week 8 depth chart

DE: Lawrence, Spencer, Selvie, Mincey
DT: Brent, Melton, McClain, Coleman (maybe Okoye instead of Coleman)
DE/DT: Crawford

They'll definitely be dumpster diving other teams cuts for young guys with upside that teams will try and get cute with by sneaking them to the PS.

Keep 3
RB Murray, DeMarco
RB Dunbar, Lance
RB Williams, Ryan

Keep 6
WR Bryant, Dez
WR Williams, Terrance
WR Beasley, Cole
WR Harris, Dwayne
WR Street, Devin

WR Byrd, LaRon

there has to be someone better than hayden they can pick up.

Even if we got someone off the street Hayden will still make this team. I have no faith in McClain showing up every week.

Yeah, Vaughn sure looks like he's a player. He's PS material

Although I think Williams is a better back, I think the coaches like Randle a little bit more. Also Murray and Dunbar are too fragile to only go with 3 RBs if we are serious about running the ball more.

That leaves you with two roster spots open maybe 3 if Demarcus goes on IR. Those get filled with one CB and one DL or Vaughn. My best guess. Still lots of guessing.

Although I think Williams is a better back, I think the coaches like Randle a little bit more. Also Murray and Dunbar are too fragile to only go with 3 RBs if we are serious about running the ball more.

The coaches like Randle more because he is better at pass protection. A backup RB is obviously going to be a dropoff in running production from the starter - but if your #1 back goes out, you just can't put a guy out there down after down who doesn't pass protect well.

The problem we have with these backs is similar to problems we've had in the past. Our #1 is just the best in terms of running, receiving, and pass blocking of the group. That means we want him on the field all the time.

The reason we like Randle is that he can actually block at a similar level to Murray. If we go with Randle it is all about how you keep Murray healthy - by trying to cut out a few snaps every game. Williams is the guy you want if Murray goes down, Randle is the guy you want playing 7-8 snaps a game to give Murray a breather without getting Romo killed.

I don't see Randle lining up at all in the backfield unless Murray or Dunbar go down. And from what I've seen of him on STs I don't know if I want to really see him dressed on Sundays.

I know if we are trying to run clock with a lead I would feel better with Williams running the ball than Randle.

Boy, we don't have any decent backup OL

It sure could be worse. I think the Colts lost 3 starting OL in camp. I think their three starting interior OL have a whopping combined 3 years experience. Although, come to think of it, the Cowboys three starting interior OL (Leary, Fred, Martin) have maybe, what, two years experience. But, we do have two 1st rd picks there.

And the NYG starting OL looks pretty bad. So, I'm sure the backups are even worse.

ditto. If I'm Jason, I'm making the decision to keep only 3. SCREW JERRY!
