Reflecting on Zeke’s time here led me to the realization that he’s arguably the most productive player in NFL history through his first 50 games.

Edge James and LT are the only guys with more yards from scrimmage in their first 50. But Edge had 206 more yards in 137 more touches, while LT had 125 more yards in 88 more touches.

Obviously Zeke trumped both those guys in yards per touch by a lot and is just barely behind in overall yards.

I’d argue that Zeke is the most productive player in NFL history through 50 games. He actually earned that contract. Unfortunately it didn’t pan out and Zeke really only had one more good season.

Different perspective from the common view that Zeke was never worth a big deal.
Who cares?

Exactly where does Adrien Peterson fall in here? His first 4 seasons were phenomenal!

now look at his playoff stats, ypg, yds avg per carry , td's , catch yds.
See what that looks like

Talk about an exaggeration. Zeke was arguably behind THE best O-line of the 2010s and was force fed the ball. Are we going to sit here and suggest Ezekiel Elliott was more productive than freakin' Barry Sanders through their first 50 games? That's just one RB off the top of my head. That doesn't even get into OTHER positions in the league.

Actually he did not earn that contract. Contracts are for what you are going to do not what you have done. Unfortunately that is what gets Jerry in trouble at times.
True......that franchises factor in the future, regarding new contracts. But no one ever says a player is outperforming his pay (Micah as an example), including this Board.
....then the NFLPA needs to strike to remove the "rookie contract" mandate. Micah are you reading this post?

This seems like the Emmitt/Barry argument all over again.

Remind me again at what point did he hold out and sign his contract? Somewhere around 50 games I would expect. What a POS.

I'd even argue Smith's first 50 games are more impressive even factoring in his mediocre rookie season. 91-93 alone puts him above Zeke.

But if we extend this to other players: There is a little guy by the name of Patrick Mahomes dominating the league right now.

Thats his fault eh?. When he did good it was the o line. When we couldnt break off some playoffs smackdowns its of course zekes.

Yes...
Playing injured the last two years....and playing fraking freaking center....is pos.
The guy did everything we asked him to...except the hold out. If only jerry just made him sit. That aint zekes fault. Ask....and say no. Jerry is youre pos.

The RB position as a whole is really a "Sucks to be you" thing as for as NFL contract negotiations go...Basically the NFLPA screwed the stuffing out of RB's..if your good your gonna get way to much work to shine through a second contract, teams know it now and will just option you until they are done and turn you out (which is the correct thing to do from a FO standpoint)..Other than holdout (which I highly doubt will work anywhere again), they have no option to actually see any kind of money in a second contract.

Now that i think of it, maybe the NFLPA should really base that rookie pay off of games started or something..Im sure that just opens up another position for a pounding though.

Best player in NFL history through his first 50 games and without really any meaningful wins? a little much maybe...
One RB isn’t gonna make you win a SB
Even if it’s the greatest RB ever

Last position in the nfl you want to play if you don’t get a big second contract. If you get a 3rd one you are mostly done by then

Think Brown had a better first 50. Terrell Davis was also pretty high. Heck isnt Emmitts also around the same?

Worth a 1st round pick...i'd say yes but not the contract extension. He was worth maybe picking up the 5th year option at most. but by that 5th year his production was dropping.
