There is no doubt in my mind that you are 100 percent right on that. Their cries would become increasingly louder until we lost a game at which time they would say "see, I told you we suck".

I don't understand why some of these people here are Cowboys fans. It really doesn't make any sense to call yourself a fan and then ***** about everything your team does, even the great decisions. It is mind boggling.

I don't understand people that just keep getting kicked in the teeth by the organization and get right back up and ask for another and keep defending the organization at every turn.

And let's be honest, the people you are trying to describe as always complaining about the team don't complain about everything. That's just hyperbole on your part. When the team does something good, I'll give them their due. yeah, he's hurt, but Tapper was a great pick IMO given his skill set. I had no issues trading up for Lawrence a few years ago. I was on board with bringing Claiborne back. I thought the Thornton signing was a shrewd move by the front office.

But in recent years, they've done more cringeworthy stuff than stuff that requires patting the organization on the back.

I couldn't agree more.

TIL: fans complain for the sake of complaining.

And that's the final verdict. ;)

I think its fine to criticize moves the organization makes. I didn't really care for the decision to trade two first round picks for the receiver Roy Williams. On the other hand, as a fan, I would have gladly wanted to be proven wrong.

I don't think everything the cowboys have done is right. But I believe that the arrow IS pointing up, at least in terms of talent acquisition. Our team is young, and talented. We are acquiring more talent than we are losing, as as long as we continue to do that the arrow will continue to point up.

I agree that we need to fix the defense. I am not happy about the sub-awesome defense, but you can't have everything. No one even wants to give the cowboys credit for taking Dak, which is considered an "accidental find" when there was nothing accidental about it. They spent a ton of time with Dak, and we valued him more than anyone else did as evidenced by the fact that we spent a pick on him before any other team did. That is fact. It isn't conjecture or myth, or anything of the sort.

It gets really ******* old hearing the same old **** from the same old rotten urine in their cereal people who criticize everything the Cowboys do, and then say oh I don't criticize everything they do, but in the same breath bash a great move made by the Cowboys as happenstance or luck. It just really gets old listening to that ******* drivel. Bash away if it is warranted. I'll help get the pitchforks and the tar and feathers and storm the castle with you but bashing a great pick is quite honestly, pretty silly.

Yeah, the Cowboys drafting Dak and Zeke, and the best offensive line in football is kicking you in the teeth. Got it!

I am not sure that last part is directed at me but I think the front office deserves A TON of criticism for how they've built this current team, especially the defense. The defense has been an issue for quite a few years now and all they've done is treat it like a red headed step child taking massive risks and bargain bin attempts to fix it while putting real assets into the offense. Maybe it's tiring to you but when the defense has been an issue for 3, 4, 5 years and every offseason they half *** it on trying to fix it, you shouldn't be surprised that some fans have issues with that.

To me, and you can disagree which I suspect you will, that's not the way to build a SB caliber team.

Apparently you don't get it.

I am not talking about drafting your favorite player. I am talking about not making a NFC title game in over 20 years. I am talking about only four playoff appearances in 10 years. I am talking about 2 playoff wins in 10 years.

That futility is directly tied to the decisions Jones has made. And yet some of you just line up to applaud things he does and get your pants in a bunch when fans have the audacity to criticize a team that has been a joke for pretty much 20 years after Jimmy Johnson left.

Spending a first and a second on Mo , giving Carr a massive contract, giving a second and a third for Lawrence, giving up a second on a home run play for Smith, using a second on Gregory who was supposed to be the best pass rusher in that draft etc is NOT neglecting the defense. It may not be going good enough but you can't say they are neglecting the defense. It isn't even remotely accurate. That is pure fallacy.

That's like saying we are neglecting the QB position by taking Dak. It is just pure stupidity to say stuff like that. Stupidity. Neglect means doing nothing.

The failures of 20 years ago don't have dick to do with what we have done the past 3 years and those decisions are shaping today's team, not decisions from 20 years ago.

In the end, it's results that matter. So all that you listed........... what has that gotten us? Nowhere. We still are a bottom half to third of the league defense.

The front office has made poor decisions on fixing/building the defense. Taking Gregory on it's face isn't necessarily a bad decision at the time. But then counting on him this season to the point that you don't sign any real DEs is a problem when you knew he had a continuing drug issue. Gregory was a massive risk and relying on him in his second year was a massive risk (did you not see me mention that in the original post?). I like Smith. I am a ND grad. But when you have as many holes on defense as this team has, taking him is a pretty big risk. And if he doesn't pan out, that again, would be another poor decision by the front office.

Carr was signed what? 4 years ago? And since then, they haven't spent any real money on defense. It's almost like because Carr backfired on them, they got scared to spend money on defensive FAs, instead opting to just try to sign some cheap guys and hope they somehow turn into gold.

In the end, here is where we sit. We have a SB caliber offense, even with a rookie running it, but we have a defense that is one of the bottom 10-12 defenses in the league most likely. And the reason for such imbalance in the team is the fact that the front office has done a pretty poor job of building the defense.

Been A LOT more bad decisions than good ones. If there were A LOT of good decisions, this team would have made a few NFC title games in 20 years. They've been a complete non-factor in the upper echelon of the NFL for 20 or so years.

The last 20 or so years have been plagued by more poor decisions than good ones. And that's why some fans are frustrated and get pissy when once again, the team trots out a defense that isn't good enough to win them anything, for example.

Its insane that we still have fans complaining about taking Zeke at 4. Its even more insane that these same fans wanted Ramsey at 4 instead.

When I look at this defense, I see the lack of a pass rush and almost horrific linebacker play. Ramsey on this team would be giving up the same completions that Carr is giving up with this pathetic pass rush of ours

You can't criticize a move made after the fact using facts that you currently possess that the team didn't have when a draft selection was made. Everyone knew Gregory was a risk at the time he was drafted. I think it is fair to level some degree of criticism for the pick, but we now know that Gregory is unlikely to work out (it still isn't a certainty).

The team weighed the risk/reward and pulled the trigger. Not all picks work out. But selecting Gregory WAS an attempt to fix the defense. Doing something that doesn't work out isn't the same as doing nothing at all.

If Gregory doesn't work out I think it is fair to say that it was, in hindsight, a poor decision. But to be fair, they didn't have the benefit of hindsight when the selection as made. But a failure doesn't help the team win. There is also risk in selecting a solid player with little upside. The team just has to do what they think is best and hopefully they guess right more often than they guess wrong.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that one. We haven't built a very good offense, and potentially the best offensive line in football by making poor decisions. We are filling holes on defense. It is just taking a bit longer than anyone would prefer it take. Resigning Mo to a team friendly deal looks like a very good decision that has made us better ..... on defense.

I think the jury is still out on Ramsey, but the bottom line is that Dallas rated Zeke as the top player in this draft. If someone thinks that scouting decision is wrong, say so. But its crazy to say the team should pass on a guy that is BPA and a position of need and a difference maker because you can get a Joseph Randle or Tashard Choice later in the draft.

Ramsey might turn out to have been the better pick 5 years from now, but I think the Zeke pick was the right pick based on the info we had available at the time the selection was made, which is all that really matters.

And the risk/reward equation wasn't a Rico Gathers type of decision. The upside was getting a top ten pick that turns into a All Pro. The downside was giving up a very late 2nd rounder. I don't count on ever getting anything from Gregory but I don't write him off either, but it was one of those decisions that was understandable.

I don't play the lottery but if there was a five dollar ticket that had a 30% chance of paying 500, I would buy it every time.
