Assertions without proof are to be discarded. It's a free country so speculate nonsense to your heart's content.

Which is more likely, Goodell has something but is just playing coy or Goodell is in CYA mode after being embarrassed in the Ray Rice and Josh Brown debacles?
I don't think Goodell was the least bit embarrassed. Goodell has something and is waiting until the most inopportune time to spring it on the Cowboys.

I never said he was embarrassed over the Zeke issue; how could he not be embarrassed for giving wife beaters a pass? I said he was in CYA mode.

At least you have something to hope for.

Going a little to far now. Love hip hop but today's music is nothing like the 90s.

Yeah I agree - let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There has been some brilliant hip hop throughout the years but I agree it's really gone downhill.

I never said he was embarrassed over the Zeke issue, however you did suggest he was embarrassed over the Ray Rice and Josh Brown cases and yes he should have been embarrassed but I don't think he was. He's dragging out this Zeke case because he knows something and he wants something in return for it. Blackmailing Jerry Jones is not beneath that piece of human scum.

Checked out BT. Unimpressive flow and he rips off beats from DJ Premier and Tony Touch. Not impressed.

Rips off beats? He doesn't make beats as far as I know. He raps, primarily with the group The Roots. I think he's one of the GOATs. He started in the early 90s but is one of the few rappers who actually gets better with age.

A few of my favorite somewhat newer songs of his to check out are:

The Otherside
Bird's Eye View
The Imperial
Rapid Eye Movement

First song I checked out was over something DJ Premier did for Gangstarr. His flow is below average.

Not impressed at all.

I love (hate) the sentiments of "back in MY DAY, things were WAY BETTER!!!"

Na. Movies are better. Music is better. Almost everything is better. There's so much more one can do and learn from these days compared to the past.

It's fine and perfectly normal for someone to be fond of the music/time they grew up with. But to throw a blank on top of and dismiss anything new and different is what literally every single generation does to the one before it. The people saying "music was so much better in the 90s, man!"? Guess what: People who grew up in the 70s and 80s said the same thing about your 90s music. Your music is neither better or worse than current music; it's just different and new.

RAP has had staying power like no one expected. POP music, Alternative Rock...there are lots of stars and bands that are all adding aspects of RAP to their lyrics and music. Hard Rock is probably the last holdout. Was listening to K.Flay's "Blood in the Cut" yesterday in the car....yep, RAP has influenced almost everyone, mostly in a positive way. The old NWA style is mostly on its way out, but RAP has had a huge impact, and will continue to do so.

I agree with you. Rap and hip-hop have essientialy fused together. There was a time that each were very different from one another and now you can't really tell. You can also see the evolution of rap dating back to the 80s and now. Rap had many forms and to people who didn't really listen to it ,just lumped anything remotely sounding "urban" and called it rap.

Rappers now a days have changed. All they rap about now is hooking up with girls and partying. They also almost all wear skinny jeans and are generally smaller guys in stature. The rap I liked listening to was the kind that were rags to riches stories or growing up and evolving as a person and finding your place in society. The occasional angry rapper or drug dealing rapper was okay too. Also, chance the rapper (who I do like) won best new artist so there's that.

I always use the example of 50 cent. I was/am a fan of 50 but if you look at him, he has evolved with the times. For those of you who don't know, 50 use to be a guerrilla. He was massive, insanely swole and was not a guy you mess with. He also had street cred because he was a drug dealer and was shot 9 times and lived. His music ranged from angry, rags to riches, and hooking up with girls and finding love. If you see him now, he's turned into a pretty boy and wears glasses and skinny jeans. He's also a lot smaller. His newer music is more inline with rap is now, his stuff from 2000 is almost entirely different.

Edit: get rich or die trying was actually a good movie too.

There is plenty of stuff coming out of Chicago and LA that has its roots in NWA.

Anyone who doesn't/didn't like Ice-T and Cube were just anti-rap all together; those guys did what they set out to do, never really sold out, but parlayed their success into other, longer-lasting careers. I can appreciate that. I'll be 60 next month, but I when I watched Straight Outta Compton with my son, who's almost 30 and DJ's on the side, I think I enjoyed it more than he did because I was around during all of that.

A sure fire way to delineate whether it is officially the off-season is by gauging the amount and diversity of the tangents that threads go. I applaud all of the participants of this thread for showing your adept skills to meander off topic. :muttley:
