90s is/was far and away my favorite era, but there's so much really incredible music out currently it's literally overwhelming. There's just also a proportionate amount of garbage and it's easier than ever to put it out.

I grew up in NYC in the early 80's .. I have to agree it sucks now. In fact all music now is like society disposable and cookie cutter. Future, Young Thug, Migos are using the same beats same hooks, same delivery. Trap music.

Right. Entertainment in general is subpar these days. This goes for music of all genres and movies. It's all cookie cutter and recycled junk.

Rap is no different though in that department than any other genre. Rap had tons of good music in the 90s and early to mid 2000s. Rap is also geared to the younger generation. You aren't going to see rappers make much music as they get older. And usually the fanbase grows out of it, too. My uncle was born in 68 and was very into rap when it first started. Loved NWA. But then grew out of it.

I like all genres of music. Rap, older country, funk, blues, hard rock, heavy metal and others. A lot of people are closed minded when it comes to music and have pre-conceived notions about a whole genre based on random songs they hear on the radio or tv. It gives me a chuckle.

Thank you. And Rap isn't the only genre that suffers from this. Rock isn't that great anymore. Country music is just god awful compared to when I was younger. And there aren't any really good R&B artists.

I hear you. I listen to everything from classic rock to Disco, heavy metal, 80's British Synth. my son who's 22 would rather listen to The Rolling Stones than trap. He grew up around me listening to it. In fact U2 is coming to Tampa and he got tickets for us.

I completely disagree on Country. It's evolution of music, and it was on it's way to change long before today's country which people talk down on. But it's still the same story telling format as it once was, but now with some rock to it.

Now R&B died in the early 00's last decent R&B "group" was Ideal IMO. What we lack now are groups. We had some great R&B groups in the 90's and early 00's. Honestly some of the best music was produced. They don't make it like they use to. Such a shame, I loved R&B

I have said it for the longest but R&B has suffered a fate far worse than Hip Hop. It barely exists in the mainstream nowadays. And yes, a big part of that is not having groups.

I can't name a genre of music that doesn't suck right now. Country doesn't sound like country anymore. It sounds like pop/country. Rap is pretty much mumbling to a beat now. Pop music pretty much all sound the same since the EDM DJ's make almost all the tracks now. Rock sucks now and there are no more guitar licks that become classic. ALL music sucks now. Some just HATE on music they don't listen to make their lame music seem better.

I find most of today's music; rap or any other kind of main stream music, to be vacuous and uninteresting.

What that most likely means is that you've simply aged out of the target demographic for contemporary music. Nothing wrong with that. Every generation before you has also done this, and then ends up complaining about current music no longer being good.

There's still good music out there. People tend to be attached to the type of music (and specific artists) they liked in their teens through 20's or maybe 30's the most.

I'm not a hater of rap and hip hop but I can't wait for the trap music era to end. Terrible. Just terrible.

This source is better but it does not say the same thing as your first one. Goodell not letting it go is not the same thing as a suspension being imminent. Poor job.

I understand now why Reality kills new threads on this topic.
I'm allowed to speculate on why Goodell is not letting it go.

Zeke is hot right now. Except for a very few rappers, Zeke is in a spot where him hanging out with a rapper gives the rapper more relevance, than the rapper gives him.

He should be hanging out with rappers like Black Thought and acquiring some knowledge instead of losing brain cells with Wacka Flocka Lame.

Assertions without proof are to be discarded. It's a free country so speculate nonsense to your heart's content.

Which is more likely, Goodell has something but is just playing coy or Goodell is in CYA mode after being embarrassed in the Ray Rice and Josh Brown debacles?
