Just playing devil's advocate to the mob here:

Anybody ever hear the name Herschel Walker?
That was a different era, when RB was nearly as coveted a position as QB. In today's game where the rules have bent over backwards to favor the passing game, running backs have become a luxury, not a necessity. Nobody is giving up even 2 number 1s or a pile of picks and players any more, even for the best back in the league.

Dallas was criticized by many just for drafting the guy who was hands down the best back in the draft and an elite talent in the top half of the first round because RBs just arent considered valuable enough to go that high.

QBs are developing faster. Having a running game speeds that up. Big Ben came in and had deuce and Bettis. He won early. J Goff came after gurley. They won in his second year. Zeke was so good as a rookie, he made dak look solid as a rookie. You don’t trade hall of fame talent, especially silly when it’s young. You can draft a future great qb and keep Zeke.

When Goff came in, he had 4 years of Gurley under contract.

A new QB next year would have Elliott for only 2 years before the team has to make a decision on whether they want to spend oodles of money on a TB.

So if someone is willing to give me real value for him now that can help rebuild the entire offense, I am making that move.

And yet, you can't give us a single team that won a Super Bowl because of a stud RB and stud WR.

And what the hell is this "you can draft a future QB" - not when you're middling and always getting a 7-9/8-8 record. If you're 7-9/8-8 team, your best bet is to have picks to trade to move up and get your guy.

Heck though, I am not even just talking about a franchise guy - I don't even think we'll be needing to move up in this draft to get our future QB, I think by the end of the season we'll be in play for Herbert. I want to add more value to this offense and defense.

RBs don't win you championships, trade Zeke and get players at positions that do help win championships.

Better finish below the Giants if you want Herbert.

Some conversations make you dumber . This is one . Right on with trading your best player. Smh

Well technically the smartest move this franchise ever made in their entire history was arguably trading Herschel Walker, who was their best offensive player.

Now that's an extreme example given the return the Cowboys got........... but it highlights that trading away one of your best players, especially when you are likely starting at mini-rebuild on offense, isn't exactly a dumb idea if the return is exceptional.

Ray Rice.

The Ravens won their last Super Bowl with Ray Rice and his second worst season and was showing a lot of signs of his decline before bottoming out in 2013. He didn't have a great year receiving and had a decent year running, he wasn't a top 5 RB. Ravens also had a QB that got hot and played out of his mind in the post-season and one of the leagues better defenses.

Also, outside of one game, he was pretty average in the post-season. Actually, did you see his stats for 2012 in general? Ray Rice was a pretty overrated RB.

A trade like that only comes around once in franchise history and these young guys probably don't remember

And TO didn't win us crap. Nor did TO. win any other team anything.

Show me the last stud WR or RB that won their team a Super Bowl.

Blount , Lynch and Rice were very solid contributors to there teams Superbowl wins

Understand we have a special situation here so we need a power running game . We also need a top 5 Oline so the running game works because we have a bad coach who is here to stay . The running game is the only thing that covers garrets sins . Jerry likes Garrett he feels comfortable with him . Garrett dosent make him feel like he is walking on eggshells . We could draft the next Peyton Manning dosent mean he will have a chance in hell succeeding here without the run game .

Are you planning on Garrett , Linehan and Moore coaching and mentoring a first round young QB with no running game . That's a disaster waiting to happen .

Try and think back to what worked and gave us good football to watch . We had a dominant OLINE that could run the ball when ever we chose . We had Romo and Sanchez coaching up and mentoring Dak . Garrett was left to do what he dose best Clap and won COTY Dak won ROY .

Im not trading Zeke unless its for Barkley . Continue to make the Oline better as Tyron is fading and get a receiver like Hopkins who dosent need the perfect ball and dosent tip it to the other team . Ace the water boy and get the best QB coach money can buy pronto

I think they are back off the ledge for a moment LOL what a freakin group . Why do we need to trade Zeke to get picks tank the season and get who you want at QB and let him have a good running game to take some heat off because you know he will be expected to be Peyton Manning as soon as he signs LOLOL

If someone offers you a first with say a third attached to it, you take it and you'd be crazy not to. "Best RB in the league" is still an RB. When is anyone here going to list to me the teams that won Super Bowls with "the best RB"?

Bet most of that list will be made up of 1990s and early 2000s teams.

******* trade.

What if that first isn’t half as good as Zeke? Or a bust? Then you lose the best RB in the league and have a **** player.

Such a narrow minded thread.

Lynch barely did anything in the Super Bowl and had the benefit of a historic defense, I already discussed Rice and he was not a stud in 2012, and LOL Blount....he got put in the dog house in the Super Bowl and they still won.

That's the list?

...then you still lose very little. Zeke isn't winning us many games, RBs have a short shelf life, he'll want a big contract, etc.

Hell, Bell does more running and receiving combined than Zeke and Steelers are unwilling to give in to his demands. RBs DON'T WIN YOU CHAMPIONSHIPS

Defense and franchise QB does. I don't know why this is so difficult LOL

This is probably the dumbest post in this thread.

"LOL why trade an RB that isn't winning us games for a FRANCHISE QB because like Garrett and stuffz LOL O-Line gud Zeke gud"

Jesus.
