Zeke wants to stay in Dallas

I don't think he ever cashed it in. He's just a RB who lost his juice. It happens to them all, some quicker/sooner than others. He's had a good career at both OSU and now the Dallas Cowboys. But it's over unfortunately. The team needs to move on. His days as a viable 10+ carry/game RB are over, especially on this team where we all agree we need to lean on the running game. An upgrade is needed to supplement Pollard's carries.
Cool. Time will tell, eh?

Smart on his part. Nobody is going to pay him big money, but he's still a very useful player in his own way.

About $5 million a year is about right. Supreme short yardage runner, great in pass protection, and still runs OK with physicality.

But his best days are behind him, and I credit him for realizing this if the story is true.
$5M/year is a lot to pay for a worn down, PT, situational RB.

Okay...doesnt answer my question.
I wish I had a better answer but I don't know the depth charts of other teams. But what I can tell u is just watching other games I constantly think I would rather have that guy than Zeke. And I'm not talking about the starting rbs. Heck, I think that when watching Malik Davis run. He averaged .4 ypc more than Zeke too. He's usually only in there when Dallas is way up and the other team knows we r running out the clock.

You have to have some speed and burst to provide anything at the position. Zeke doesn't even break tackles anymore.

Any fullback in the league could give u what Zeke gives you.

Zeke would have a hard time making any ball club right now as their starting running back. Father Time undefeated and he established this year the tires are bald.

His base is close to 11 million.

Even if you cut that to just 1 million his cap hit is still like 7 million. Zoinks.

Zeke's last 4 games. 1.9 1.2 2.1 2.6 yards a carry. No Burst anymore. Jerry remembers the holdout.

Jerry signed Dak to a lucrative contract 5 months after a devastating ankle injury so it is possible that a team is willing to offer Pollard a quality contract.
Dak was Jerry's original drafted player with 3-4 years of skin on the wall. Let's put it another way, would as GM of another offer Pollard a strong long-term guaranteed contract at the start of free agency in March? What about April while he still recovering or can't pass your physical? Meanwhile, if you have 8-9 other free-agent RBs to choose from.

As stated before in another thread, the Cowboys know the player, so I can see Jerry and Stephen trying to meet him halfway with a generous 1-year contract of maybe $10M with $5M guaranteed. JMO

I am certainly not a Zeke detractor but for the best interest of the team I think it would be best to move on.

The more we move away from the what we have been the better.

We can franchise him.

Zeke must be really worried about it to float this out to the media already.

He knows he shouldn't be on the team.
But it does prove why he wanted to get paid when he did. If not, he would have gotten used up and discarded without a lot to show for it.

We saw this exact same thing with Emmitt Smiff. Jerry held on to him for 3 years too long.

Even Diggs' kids know Elliott has been done for a while.

The issue is more than money. At this point he's a short yardage back who can pass block. But the coaching staff/organization here will continue to use him as a viable 1a or 1b RB which he clearly is not. It's best for the team to let him walk.
It’s a fair point. If Kellen Moore & Co. continue to think Zeke is a viable RB then no way I’d want him back.

But in the unlikely scenario he’d play for pennies on the dollar (i.e., 1/5th his salary) I’d have him back as a 3rd back if he understood his role was limited to short yardage situations.

It’s all far-fetched; I’m hoping we cut bait with him.
