Twitter: Zeke's agent speaks out

Eventually, the dreaded 5-day warning letter will need to be sent to Zeke, ending his season if he does not comply.
Is that the procedure, that at some point the team can send a letter and Zeke is out for the year? I suppose that makes sense. The team shouldn't be required to wait however long Zeke chooses. It doesn't seem like that gets used very often though.

He went toe to toe with Goodell and paid millions in fines. On top of watching his team not get a single holding call for 9 straight games.

You’re right on those points.

I think what @khiladi is saying though, is that Jerry didn’t just do those things out of the kindness of his heart. He did it because Zeke is his best player and he wanted to win.

Let’s be honest, if Zeke was just an average RB and pulled the same stuff he has, he would have been cut already. That’s the reality of the NFL.

But Zeke isn’t average. He is one of the best. Which is why he gets such a long leash. Because Jerry (and all of us fans) want to win.

The Raiders are considering doing it to Antonio Bryant, so it is a tool still utilized in today's NFL.

I only hope that whilst he's not showing up to work (which disrespects the entire team) - or if he doesn't come back - that the team isn't having to pay this primadonna.

A bit disrespectful even as a joke? Probably. But probably no worse than holding out when you’re still under contract for two years.

Holding out from training camp while under contract is a hardball negotiating tactic. So he can’t get too bent out of shape if Jerry plays hardball back.

Personally I would prefer Jerry not make the little quips like that.

I will add: I wish both sides would get a deal
Done already.

Agreed!

Per Mort at :espn:

Funny that his agent is claiming that he's still in Los Cabos. Did he fly back already?

Jerry once again sticks his foot in his mouth. That said; he clearly said this jokingly and jestured that nothing further from the truth.
The agent just playing the we’re offended card- trying to get paid.
I understand the importance of Agents to protect players from owners greed etc, but I also think they hurt the league with their greed.

The contracts are fully honored by the teams. The guaranteed money is fully spelled out.
Depends on your definition of "fully honored." Fans tend to define it differently when discussing owners vs. players. The good players are expected to play out their contracts for whatever amount of years and money was promised on signing day and if they hold out they are whiny overpaid babies. With players that aren't so good, teams should be able to cut/traded and move on from with as little financial ramifications to the team as possible.

Fully honored, if you applied it to owners the same way fans want it applied to players, would mean they have to pay you for the full life and value of the contract.

There is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things.

If I think I deserve a pay raise, I go to my boss and explain to him why I think I deserve a pay raise and we discuss it like men. Guess what? While we are negotiating my new pay raise, I keep showing up for work!!! I dont tell my boss, "I'm catching the first plane to Cabo and you let me know when you want to sign on the dotted line".
So if you severely outperform your contract. You talk to your boss about it. Then he wants to pay you way below market then what other companies at the same position are paying you will just leave. Zeke doesnt have that freedom

Right. So we expect players to have to honor their contracts but not the teams? Seems like those contracts are worth about as much as the paper they're written on.

Hey if Zeke dosent want to honor his contract fine but the league should give us another #4 pick if they plan on letting him play somewhere else . Its all about losing the value of that pick . We don't need Zeke just compensation to replace the pick .

And that's exactly why a deal will eventually get done.

There's not a chance that Dallas could recoup the draft pick value. No team in the league will give up anything close for him.

He's stuck with the Cowboys, the Cowboys are stuck with him.

Most fans don't even understand what a contract is. Don't overestimate them.

Contracts are what they are. There is a certain amount of guaranteed money that a player is agreeing to. That part of the contract should be fully honored, or don't sign the damn contract in the first place.

Once the guarantees are gone, a player or team has every right BY THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT to back out of it. If those terms aren't met, a team can cut a player but still has to pay him. Or a player can leave but can't play anywhere else unless they negotiate a buyout of some sort.

It's actually very simple.

Rocky Arceneaux should go to school and get a degree , he doesn't understand what he is reading in Zeke's contract .

Holding out right now is a dumb negotiating move . Zeke has no leverage at all . None .

They offered him Leveon Bell money. That is the market right now, and if Jerry will be cool enough to give it to him now, he should take it. Dallas controls him for the next four seasons if they really want to, no matter what he does here.

Most teams look at running backs like punters. He only has value on a couple of teams.

The Rams severely regret what they gave Gurley. Why should Dallas make that same mistake?

I would just suspend all negotiations and let this sink in to the infants terrible. I wouldn't talk about zeke. I would make no mention of zeke. i'd stick to the tried and true line that we can only worry about the guys who are here. exile is tough to handle for those who love the spotlight. the great ali mentioned after retirement the most painful thing was that people still talked to him, but not about him.

How about you actually read what you said. During his suspension yes. You are saying he costed us games when he was on the field which is nonsense. Our coach has costed us far more games than Zeke and Dak combined. So please stop.
I never said he cost us games. You didn't read the entire post.

Not really.

The players are actually making a choice. They could sign for less overall money w/ more guaranteed money, however they choose the larger amount w/ less guaranteed money.

False...Zeke is saying, Jerry and Stephen you KNOW who is the straw that stirs this drink. Stop playing and start paying.

That doesn't matter, Zeke signed the deal. He knew the terms. He chose to be selfish over team, so yeah he said Dallas Who?.

Depends on how great your performance is and how much money you make your boss. I hope he gets paid he deserves it.

No it doesn't. You get a raise when it's your time to get one. It's not Zeke' s time and he's not making the owner money by himself.
