This guy hasn’t done anything but play hard for years but “fans” totally discount that because they are mad about how high McClay drafted him or that the front office decided to resign him, he’s now, essentially, been reduced to a steaming turd in the eyes of the local football Intelligentsia (/snort)

You guys should check yourselves.

I don't think anyone really complains about his effort, he's just "no good" and not worth the money he's paid, frankly never really was. No one pays RB's anymore (except our stupid owner). We need young players and/or to be able to sign other more critical FA's to fill holes with his ridiculous salary. That's just how the cookie crumbles.

Whatever that greedy little blob held out after 3 years then was given the largest RB contract in history and overnight turned into the fat lazy blob you have seen on Sundays ever since. He does not deserve praise and thanks. He deserve ridicule and that is what I will give him.

This assessment right here speaks volumes about where Zeke stands in the league and yet another example of Jerry & Co. stupidly overpaying players that become crap not long after their big deal extensions (Zeke, Jaylon Smith, DLaw, Dak???)

The Athletic's Bob Sturm writes Ezekiel Elliott "has one option for employment above the league minimum and it is right here in Dallas."

"I think the answer is that given the number of analysts and scouts I have talked to about Elliott this year and the consensus opinion is in stone. He has very little left in his legs and the word is out," Sturm leads with. Well, people do watch football. It's already been reported by Tony Pauline earlier this offseason that Elliott was facing a massive paycut. It sounds like the market may be tepid enough for him to remain a Cowboy no matter what.

What does an event showcasing RB's that should be considered over keeping Elliott have to do with this?

Are they using the gathering of NFL FO's as a way of estimating Elliott's value?

I am sure his agents realize this is a good RB draft class, I would think they would try and get something done to make sure Elliott has a team in 2023.

As I said earlier.. This is Zeke's agent doing his job.. He will head to the combine and have a hundred conversations with scouts, coaches and GMs and see what the market feels like before going back to Zeke and saying "Here's what you need to to based on my conversations in Indy..

Those conversations will have one of three outcomes:

1) One team will be hot to trot for Zeke and be willing to pay him 7-10 million a year as a butts in the seats attraction.

2) No team will touch him with a 10 foot pole, take whatever you can get from Dallas.

3) There is lukewarm interest from a contender, for not much money but a chance to play with _____ who is a great player I think you'd enjoy playing with and in a system I think suits you better than what they've been running in Dallas the last three years.

Regardless of what these "experts" say on the internet.. no one knows what those talks will yield until they take place.

This foolish crapp makes me want us to cut him immediately.
This "foolish crapp" happens all the time. It just happens to be very public being it's Cowboys and zeke. That right there is probably "foolish crapp"....making a big public deal about it.

A good team would send a clear message that the team is ready to move on and excited about what the future might bring. A pathetic clown show is excited to drag this stuff out forever to have people talk about them no matter what. Fat Zeke has been so clearly terrible for so long now that no matter what we do it is already too late.

I'm sure Zeke's agent will test his popularity with other people in the Indy Combine to see what Zeke's market allows. It should prove interesting to see what becomes of his situation. Would some other team likely take a chance on him performing up to their expectations? Zeke and his agent will surely make it a point to find out what his marketing value is and weigh it against whatever the Cowboys happen to propose.

This is not personal, this is business.

Zeke held out and got a new contract that made him the highest paid RB in the league, that was business and Zeke was doing what was in his best interest.

Now the team has to do what is in their best interest which is ask Zeke to take a pay cut or be released.

Again, this is nothing personal and both sides (Zeke and Cowboys) are doing what is in their own best interest, its nothing but business.

Well, then show me some of these "all the time" cases.

While I do not like his hold out when he was under contract, my thought process is similar to the logic Zeke displayed during his holdout.

It's about business. While he has been worn down he was highly compensated for it. Now his speed and quickness has left he is no longer useful. As a Cowboy fan my business is concerned about winning. If a player is worthy of a contract then pay him, but if they are overpriced cut them.

Why?

Because allocation of resources should go to whatever players help us win. Zeke is a declining asset and requires replacement, so his role can be filled at a reduced salary. That money hopefully goes elsewhere.
Now, that is an excellent point. Zeke made it about business. No one should be complaining now that the leaf has turned.

So...let me get this straight...you think extended negotiations between players/artists/agents and teams/companies...DON'T happen?

Well okay then ...I'll see myself out.

Extended negotiations? That's how you decipher this?

Good idea. Later.

The only people complaining though are those who are advocating that we "cut the bum" or that "Zeke is worthless" or some such because they can't bear the thought of his continuing in a Cowboy uniform. Zeke understands the business, the Cowboys understand the business. At the end of the day both sides will try to do what's in their best interests and if they can agree on something it will happen. Zeke won't be mad if the Cowboys don't offer him a decent deal and the Cowboys won't be mad if he won't take a crappy one. The only people will be mad if they do find common ground and Zeke comes back are people who don't value what Zeke brings to the team and want him gone. And even those people will get over it.. At least most of them will.

I won't be mad either way.. I will be sad to see Zeke go because he will join a growing list of great players whom the Cowboys will have wasted in the last two decades. Nor will it bother me if he redoes his deal and stays because even if he is no longer capable of carrying the load he still brings value on and off the field.

P.S. Zeke did not make it about business. It has always been about business for every player since they started handing out paychecks. Pro sports have to balance the business side with the on the field/court side. It's not new. But apparently people are still struggling to get used to it 100 years later.

Bottom line to all of this regarding Zeke: he WAS a great RB for Dallas but is no longer the player he once was and many around the league see it so ultimately what is Jerry & Co. willing to offer and what will Zeke and his agent accept in the form of a restructured deal?

One way or another either Zeke remains or he goes but personally speaking if he wants more than $4M/year he should go.

Imagine if the team actually had a GM who was truly accountable for the teams on field performance.
Imagine if we did not see this posted 100 times a day.

Imagine if we had a GM that kept us in the ranks of drafting top 10 every year...oh, wait...we actually have fans that would like that.....

Good post, too bad it will fall upon deaf ears to those "dislikers" as you described.
