ZONERS:

I will go on record........Miles Austin is finished as a Cowboy

He does not catch the ball well enough to stick this year.....and quite frankly, we have way too many kick retuners. Jones, Pacman, Stanback etc......

Hurd has improved and so has Stanback........and the staff is raving about Austin's replacement ..........the kid from Texas Tech!

Wow!

We are loaded for 2008/09 season.

I am ordering FLAVORED popcorn this year! :starspin

While I would tend to agree, there is 1 little flaw here. The kid from Texas Tech doesn't really replace Austin. Austin is a speed WR that has stuck around because he can return kicks and stretch the field. The Texas Tech kid is strictly a slot receiver and punt returner. They hope to get Crayton back to the slot and if they cut Austin they will be without another receiver who can stretch the field.

Having said that, I agree Austin's spot on the roster is up for grabs.

What good is a speed WR's who have hands of stone?

I am tired of pulling for Austin, therefore he is officially on my Cut list.......

The Texas Tech kid is not slow.......he is quick and football in pads fast.....faster then Welker I have read. And he returns kicks/punts in a pinch......although, I predict Jones will return kicks and Pacman will handle punts

i agree,, i think Austin is done in Dallas. He was not even that good of a kick returner.. great speed,,, no wiggle at all. Unless this kid as an AMAZING camp.. i see no way he is on the Roster this fall.

How do you really know that Stanback has improved? I haven't seen him get any significant playing time, or did I miss something last year?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the kid become a great player.

Unless you mean his health has improved, as in he will finally be able to wear a uniform, instead of a t-shirt, while standing on the sidelines...

I wouldn’t count Austin out just yet. He has more experience and knows the system better than any rookie. Let’s actually see these guys in action first before jumping to conclusions. I still like Austin and want to see if he has improved.

he returned a kickoff 30 yards at philly but hurt his glass shoulder and never hit the field again.

You can't count Austin out. He does get behind people causing them to foul to keep up. That's not a small feat. And Austin is a good KR although I wouldn't say elite. If someone takes that job from him then he'll have to prove his worth as a pure WR as just being a gunner isn't gonna keep him on the team this year.

He has his work cut out but I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Personally, I'm waiting on anyone to step up and not demonstrate the unique kickoff returning skills which only a RunningIntoPiles University graduate can excel at. Speed is an asset, but a good or great kickoff returner must have the vision necessary to see where key blocks are going to appear AND the instincts to capitalize on the openings afterwards. Austin has the speed, but he's lacking in the vision and instinct departments. I want a guy returning kicks who the coverage team fears will touch the ball. Austin is not that guy. Maybe he will eventually become that guy, but I seriously doubt it.

Because JJ and WP have said so with every chance they get. They've been singing his praises and talking about how he's killing our secondary in pratices and practice is where you get better. They see him on a regular basis, we don't so I have to take their word for it.....

Take a wild guess what Miles Austin's 40 yard time is. He ran .01 seconds faster than Limas Sweed ran. No one would ever accuse Sweed of being a speed receiver or a guy that stretches the field.

Miles is closer in size and speed to Dwayne Bowe or Braylon Edwards, problem is that neither of those guys are considered burners, they are physical with solid hands. Miles is neither of those things.

I will not be at all shocked if he is gone. He hasn't shown enough to be guaranteed anything. Neither has Hurd or Stanback. They all better come to work if they want their spots.

I think Austin is a very good KR. That's why he has a job. It's not because of his WR abilities although they are hoping that progresses. His vision is good. He just doesn't cut well at high speeds.

:bang2: You can't just take one 40 time and go by that. Look at the player esp on the field. That's where you find out if he's fast. And Austin is very fast.

what else are JJ and WP suppose to say about a kid they took a chance on with a 4th round pick that was not a WR/KR?

do you really think they would say how they are frustrated that he couldn't get playing time last season because he couldn't get healthy?

My point is bro, that IMO there are only 3 players on the current roster that do not have to worry about being cut or their starting position: Romo, Ware, and Witten.

I will reserve my right to believe what JJ and WP have to say about Stanback until I actually see the kid play(more than one kick return) on a long term basis. Instead of being a prospect that (for right now) is a flash in the pan, always injured, PRACTICE standout...

I'm just sayin'

So your saying you don't like Austin.

:)

Seriously, he hasn't done much to impress me either. I've seen times when he only had to juke 1 guy to score and he just runs right into him.

Not very good running instincts, IMO.

I have personally liked Austin's potential more than Hurd's the past seasons.
Don't know why he never got more of a chance to show it...

I think that he has the capability of making good cuts more frequently. Where I disagree is that he lacks the vision to see where he should change direction and the instinct of knowing when to make those crucial cuts sooner.

Have you been reading the Zone?

Numerous, 1st had reports have been posted quoting Mr. Jones, Coach Wade and different reports saying how much Stanback has improved and beating our cbs constantly......that is a great sign

I understand. I think he just can't cut well enough at high speed. I think he sees the holes. It just takes a certain vision on returning kicks and I think Austin has it pretty good. He does have the job. And some teams did kick away from us last year.

But I think he will get beat out by some of the new guys that can return kicks. If he makes the team I suspect he may still be back there with someone like Jones.

He cannot avoid tacklers well. He just finds the holes well.

Are you messing with me? Is that your SHORT LIST?

How about our center, guard, and Tackles on the OL? I would consider them safe......on D, how about TNew? Unfortunately, RW......and I am sure the punter and kicker are set......right?
