Yeah, I've always thought he'd be better at SS.
I assume the poster was basing his comment on Woods being a little smaller than some SS's, but there are SS's in the NFL about his size, so why not him?

Heard this on 105.3 the fan just a little bit ago.

Haven't watched much of him but maybe this move plays more to his strengths? I thought most teams had played him at SS. Could moving woods to SS boost his production too?
Free Safety Dix, eh?

Sounds like Granger is now inventing products for the film industry. :muttley:

I saw that on Twitter seems they’ll move woods to strong safety. I’m curious to see how they approach the draft now.

They signed Clinton-Dix to a 1-year contract and Woods is on the last year of his deal so my guess is they see what Woods can do at Strong Safety. Given that 11 of the Top 15 highest paid safeties are free safeties, Dallas may be angling at retaining Woods at a lower contract cost should he do well. As for Free Safety, Dallas could still look to draft a FS in the draft to take over after this year.

Heck everybody else then Heath is an Upgrade. Especially when he comes cheaper then Heath.

Guy couldnt cover, couldnt tackle, made false reads, took bad angles and took bad first steps most of the time. The only thing he is able to is hitting people. Unfortunatly most of the time our own because the game was(is) way too fast for him and he was last the last guy coming in on the tackle.
Not really accurate.

Heath is a stiff athlete. He can't change directions w/o breaking down. In layman's terms, that means he has to throttle down majorly just to change directions. It's not bad angles(That's what the TV spewers say because they don't know), it's the inability to cut to stay w/ the play. The game is not too fast for him at all. If Heath possessed lateral agility, he'd be a top 10 starting S.

If the guy coming at him made any kind of move, Heath didn't have the ability to "break down" and change directions to stay in front of the guy.

Yeah, it's not size so much as how the body is put together. Toughness can come in all sizes.

Well see that's the thing. If you're still addressing free safety in later rounds than they haven't learned their lesson lol. They've been addressing safety in those rounds years before if they do at all.

I agree. I don’t want another 5-7 rounder.

anything in the first 3 rounds would be great. 4th would be ok.

I'm actually worried about them shooting their wad in the first round on one. I think rounds 2-3 would be ideal.

For whatever reason, I'm just not sold on McKinney or Delpit and think that EDGE or IDL is the only answer for us in the first round. Maybe CB.

I don't think there is any question about this. They will play to their strengths which are Woods at Strong Safety and Dix at Free Safety and they will be amazing in those roles. My concern is at CB.

I suspect the Ha Ha signing means that an early round safety is not assured in the draft. If one they really like is available they may still go for an early round safety, but I doubt they stretch for it.

Who knows who they were trying to get, ‘fans’ seems to think just because it’s not reported - they’re doing nothing. They don’t report every damn talk or move they are trying to make, if they did the Eagles would try to swoop in and undercut us because that’s what they do.

So your argument is "we went after guys but nobody knows about it"?

It's certainly possible that conversations take place and possibly even offers get made without the media knowing. It's also possible, and to my thinking, likely, that much of what the media does report is pure speculation without foundation in the hope it will help sell their product.

The only thing I wish it was a two or three year deal not one

Well i hope because its only a 1 year deal is that we finally use an early pick to draft a long term solution. But we say this every year.

That’s just plain common sense. I shouldn’t even have to say it but obviously you people need to hear that.

the only scary part about Dix being a FS is HE IS THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE. lol..so when you consider his lack of tackling willingness..thats the bad part of the equation. But its where he belongs.
Don't sweat it. Nobody is getting past Trysten.

love the signing......and it wouldnt prevent me from drafting a safety.
just means i dont have to force a pick.
we can just sit and wait to see what the draft tide brings.

Wasnt there some advanced stats on how Woods missed quite a bit of tackles, % wise?

Or am I confusing him with a prospect?

There is no stat on missed tackles but the hoard of home graders at PFF had Heath as the worst offender at the subjective scoring they did. So of course, that became a meme here.

Well, believe it or not, he played the FS position very well.
I like Woods. Liked him in college and thought he was a steal when he got him. I just didn’t think people would get riled up enough to flame someone for suggesting a position switch like fs to ss.
