You’re all for second chances unless the person makes a lot of money then they shouldn’t have second chances lol. The logic of some people is amazing.First of all, I’m all for everyone in society getting second chances. People suffering from drug and alcohol addictions who make serious attempts to get sober deserve our support. But people with domestic violence problems are different, especially when it comes to putting them on a national stage like the NFL. Domestic Violence perpetrators need help, but they don’t need a roster spot.
Yahoo Sports ran an article last night on Aldon Smith’s incredibly long rap sheet. Below is an excerpt from that article:
Aldon Smith’s mountain of legal issues
Here’s a rundown of the long list of off-field issues Smith has encountered since entering the NFL:
This list makes Greg Hardy look like a choir boy.
- arrested in Jan. 2012 for driving under the influence
- stabbed in a house party in June 2012, was later charged for illegal possession of an assault weapon from the incident
- arrested in Sept. 2013 for DUI and marijuana possession after a single-vehicle accident, later left the Niners during the season to enter rehab
- arrested in April 2014 for a fake bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport, later suspended nine games by the NFL
- arrested in Aug. 2015 for DUI and hit-and-run, was released by Niners a day later, then given year-long NFL suspension
- arrested in March 2017 as the passenger in a DUI after a collision with a police car
- sentenced to rehab in Sept. 2017 for the 2015 DUI
- arrested in March 2018 on charges of misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism after his fiancee called 911 and said he threw her around the room, bit her wrists and drank two bottles of tequila before fleeing from police (he later blew a .40 BAC)
- released by the Raiders two days after domestic violence arrest
- arrested in March 2018 for violating a court order to stay away from his accuser
- arrested in April 2018 for violating his bail
- pleaded guilty to charges of false imprisonment and violating a court order in domestic violence case in Nov. 2018
- arrested in June 2019 for DUI
As I said in the beginning of this post- second chances are good. But for domestic violence? I want the Cowboys to win as bad as anyone. But not without at least some level of respectability.
Here’s the link to the article I quoted:

Hate to break it to you but most don’t care about this alleged bad optics. Can he play is all that matters to most but I’m sure some will be happy knowing they’ve won the morality competition though.Another poor optics signing....
moral high horse come into play.
Dak Prescott is the best QB in the league, too bad he can’t escape from the hellhole that is the Dallas Cowboys
I’m not saying we need choirboys- never said it- never will. I am saying I don’t like guys on the roster with Domestic Violence recently on their rap sheet. The Cowboys have not had a roster full of all Choirboys. You do not need all Choirboys to win. But at least you need players that will go to somebody's church on Sunday and sit on the back pews with dark sunglasses on until the hangover is over (You know who I am talking about...).
No it literally isn’t about that. It’s about whether or not we are ok signing players with Domestic Violence on their resume or not. It’s not about Choir boys, it’s not about everyone has to be “good”. It’s about whether or not there are any standards at all for who we sign.lol I mean the thread is literally about whether he is "worse" or not.
Agree in general about performance on the field.
dude is cancer, all the people that bashed hardy and dez out of the league should probably be rioting at this point over Smith. I don't care what Smith brings to the table, he's is not a good human being and has had more than enough chances to turn it around.
Those are accusations, not the facts in the Greg Hardy case. If they were he facts, he would not have been granted to have his record expunged of those charges once his case was finally heard by a jury of his peers which did not happen originally when he was prosecuted by an overzealous female judge that denied him that constitutional right.Greg Hardy beat the stuff out of that girl, was arrested for felony drug possession (cocaine), and had an arsenal of illegal weapons. Smith struggled to stay sober.
Hardy is legit a bad person. Smith struggled with alcoholism. So, no, he doesn't make Hardy look like anything.
On March 3, Smith was accused of a domestic violence incident in which he threw his fiancée “around the room, bit her on the wrist and climbed out the window,” according to a police dispatch call via KTVU in San Francisco. The Raiders released him shortly after. Smith turned himself into police on charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism (less than $400).
False imprisonment? Assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury. And all this happened two years ago. It’s just mind boggling to me if the NFL reinstates this guy with this kind of domestic violence history.
Being clean and sober now and turning his life around makes a difference. Everyone is worthy of redemption. The Cowboys are confident he will get reinstated and so I wish him the best of luck. Can we please get fuzzy lumpkin in here to act like pseudo attorney and declare Aldon innocent of all charges?
I’m scratching my head wondering where I said that. Unless you’re just assuming that’s what I meant. I tried to make it clear my problem with all this is the domestic violence he has on his record. If you want to quote me on that and say I’m against signing guys with DV, then fine. That’s accurate. Saying I’m (to quote you exactly) “all for second chances unless the person makes a lot of money then they shouldn’t have second chances”, is inaccurate. You’re all for second chances unless the person makes a lot of money then they shouldn’t have second chances lol. The logic of some people is amazing.
The most recent charge was only a DUI, not DV. He is clean and sober now.I am completely perplexed by this case. Some of this is recent. I assumed he was clean for few years and decided to give it a go again with football but this guy has been out of control for better part of last 8 years.
Hate to break it to you but most don’t care about this alleged bad optics. Can he play is all that matters to most but I’m sure some will be happy knowing they’ve won the morality competition though.
I agree. Second chances are good, but 3rd or 4th or 5th? I’ve heard he’s really turned his life around, but can a zebra REALLY change his stripes? IMO, this shows how desperate Jerry is getting about winning one more Lombardi before departing for the FO upstairs.
Aldon Smith is a talent that COULD help, but is it worth tarnishing the brand further, inviting more distraction, and ratcheting up the Cowboy hate and hyperbole?
The most recent charge was only a DUI, not DV. He is clean and sober now.
Then change your thread title lol.No it literally isn’t about that. It’s about whether or not we are ok signing players with Domestic Violence on their resume or not. It’s not about Choir boys, it’s not about everyone has to be “good”. It’s about whether or not there are any standards at all for who we sign.
