Which direction do the Cowboys go at QB in 2021?

I didn’t say that. I said it’s our job to get a deal done if you’re intent on resigning. If not, that’s fine. You move on which I’m attempting to present now.

Hey, I’m not the one who didn’t want to resign him. I’m as shocked as anyone else. But I’m not going to continue crying over it. Have to keep moving and look to what our other options are.

I understand after less than 24 hours everyone may not be ready to explore those options.

I want Dak to be here I also expect Dallas to be smart in getting players signed. I think the pressure is on Dak and Dallas still has the option to place him under a tag in 2021 if they once again cannot agree on a deal. If Dallas was offering a crappy deal then of course I would be down on the organization but everything I have seen indicates a very good deal, making Dak the 2nd highest paid player in the NFL. Thing is any deal that is done means both parties agree to it. Dak is willing to risk it, that is own him and I hope he has great success.

Great Cowboys Mgmt. We made an offer and never to be heard from again. Great job Jerry and Stephen getting the job done.

Now our franchise QB is in jeopardy of not returning in 2021. And why we must begin looking in different directions.

I understand not everyone is prepared to begin looking forward. This thread might not interest them.
we made a more than fair offer-they werent going higher. why would they need to keep going back. its not like we low balled him
curious-how high do u think they should have gone?
sorry - I think its Dak that screwed up here. To greedy for what he's accomplished.

If Dallas chooses they have the option. It is a costly option again at 37.5 mill but Cowboys have used franchise tag on a single player 2 years in a row before.
The last 2 qbs that have played on a franchise tag left that team eventually

THIS TIME MAY BE DIFFERENT. The way this was handled was bad.

By whom? Dallas made very good offers that would have made him the 2nd highest paid player. Dak has a choice as well, he wanted a 2nd shot at FA. Cowboys wanted 5 year because it is easier to work the deal and be able to free up cash down the road for other FA we will have to deal with. Dallas has an entire team to contend with Dak only has himself to worry about. I fault neither side

Hey, it is what it is. If the Cowboys were prepared to let him walk fine.

But If they truly wanted him for years to come then yesterday was an opportunity to get a deal done as it won’t be cheaper next year and why our Mgmt are being bashed.

If you want to retain someone you don’t just put an offer out there regardless how fair it is. If you can’t get him to sign then you might not be able to keep him. That’s how professional sports work. The player has other options.

Now that we’ve come to grips with the shocking news yesterday the Cowboys have passed on resigning their QB which direction do you think we will go?

We have a top offense ready to contend now. Will we look to the draft as we most likely won’t have a high draft pick or will we look to FA for a veteran to step in.

This is a team built to contend now hiring a proven coaching staff brought in to win now. This is not a rebuilding situation.

The Cowboys decision yesterday regardless what side of the fence you’re on definitely sets our franchise moving forward in a different direction with the most important position in doubt.

What direction? Hopefully to at least the NFC Championship game this year!! :oldcouple::dance::dance::yourock::yourock:

If you want to keep him you continue countering offers until he accepts. Or begin by making him an offer he can’t refuse as the local critics were suggesting. Otherwise you risk losing him. That’s how professional sports works. Players have other options. They don’t have to accept the offer.

And that’s how the cookie crumbles . Must be prepared to move on if your not willing to step up to the plate for whatever reasons even if you feel they're fair or justified.

Apparently Jerry made Dak his best offer and it wasn’t enough. Dak wants to look into other options and offers next year. That doesn’t make Dak a bad person.

I don't worry about that it is really meaningless. Cousin was on a non exclusive tag, Dak is on an exclusive tag there is a difference between the 2. Skins were also low balling Cousins

The cowboys were low balling dak. Brees left san diego and cousins left the Commanders. I would say the odds of dak staying after 2021 are slim to none

Call me crazy, but given the front office and the agent involved I don't see a deal happening for Dak. Dak will play 2021 on the tag and Dallas will move up in the draft to get their QB for 2022.

and the agent tried to force their hand, and they werent bitin.
And that’s fine. Obviously the Cowboys weren’t willing to go the extra mile to secure their QB.

Many of us are shocked today but we have to move on and explore other options. And let Dak explore his.

This is always a business first!!

Cowboys are not trying to let him walk which is why they put the exclusive franchise tag on him. I don't know what Dak value will be next year, that is really on Dak shoulders which is why I say the pressure is now on him. If he has a great season and leads this team to NCF Championship game or SB you bet this price goes up. If he puts up decent season with another 8-8 his price tag is not going up. Dallas has an entire team to sign and keep under a cap, they make fair offers I respect that, what you keep saying is if they want him to essentially give him anything he wants and that is a load of crap. Dallas has the option again of putting him on a tag in 2021, Dak could refuse to sign it but then he is **** out of luck in playing in 2021 and I don't see that happening not with 37 plus mill sitting on the table.

they franchise him next March. if there's still considerable doubt about an extension in April, they have to do whatever to get a QB in the 1st round of the 2021 draft.

That’s the most likely option but the local vibe is with a seasoned team loaded with talent ready to contend now we could look to a veteran in FA while still drafting one. Because aRookie often takes a little time to develop and this Roster is primed to contend now.

I still think the uncertainty with the current state of the NFL and the country may have played a role in not getting a deal done. I think Jerry and stephen were very hesitant to go all in long term, until maybe things simmer down. Its a legit concern. ANY other year,I think this would have been done. This isnt any other year tho.

Obviously it’s too early for you to begin exploring other options yet. I appreciate your comments and contributing to the thread. Go Cowboys!

Based on Brees who was coming off a major shoulder injury and was traded once they got Rivers in the draft? Cousins play in Washington was not great and the skins put a non exclusive tag on him and then did so again but traded him to Minn before the season was over. As for Dak, his play will determine what is going to happen. Jerry and this organization has never been known for cheap nor was the contract that was offered to Dak cheap. They did not go cheap with DLaw, Zeke, Cooper, Martin, Frederick or Tyron Smith. Dallas made a very good offer but it takes 2 to make a deal not one. If Dak has a MVP type season and leads this team into post season then the stars are the limit, if he fails then he is not seeing a mega deal in Dallas or anywhere else. It is a hell of a gamble to turn down 5 years with 70 mill in the 1st 2 years of the deal, 110 Guaranteed and 50 mill signing bonus. If you call that low balling then we clearly have different views of what low balling is
