That debate has been settled very easily, and it didn't take long at all.

If you were on the "Don't pay Dak" side you now look incredibly foolish, and if you were on the other side you have another year of contract negotiations to not look forward to.

This sucks.

If you ever thought Zeke was the "engine behind this offense" well LMAOOOO

What was Dak's Win/Loss Ratio this season? He's a good Quarterback and better than Dalton, but the only one looking foolish is the one patting himself on the back without presenting a solid case for his argument.

Dak is a 11-13 win QB, thinking we would repeatedly go 8-8 with Dak at QB would mean your GM and owner are inept and that a rebuild wouldn't help anything.

Weird you'd rather win 2-5 wins every year instead of possibly make the playoffs.

Our fans don't deserve Dak.

Yes, I'd rather this thing look like a real crap show than make a pretender a SB contender via media and hot takes. Weird, that you guys would rather mediocre seasons stacked on one another than actually leveling the thing and attempting a real rebuild.

Let Dak go to a team that will allow him to flourish. The Colts or Pats?

We are just seeing how much Dak and previously Romo are able to cover up with a bad team / scheme. Romo's largest cap number ever during his entire contract was 20 Million in 2016 accounting for 13.2% of the Cowboys cap. The cap has increased 27% since 2016, which means that Dak making anything over 26m a year is a larger percentage of the cap than Romo had his entire career.

People are talking about 35-45 million. Given that we seem so terrible from top to bottom, why would we take on such a huge cap number for one player? Dak has shown he can make up for a lot of problems we have, but not so much that we can win anything. That's the issue.

I am on the "don't pay Dak" train and still am. The Cowboys were terrible with Dak and even worse without him. They were one flukiest of fluke onside kicks from being 1-5 with him, frequently being blown out before a late comeback. Now the team doesn't make those late runs to keep the score respectable.

I don't think Dak sucks. I think he is an above average QB. I think the rest of the roster sucks and the coach and GM/owner too. The whole thing needs to be burned down. Right now, the only thing paying Dak does for you is get you $40m less in capspace and a #6 draft pick instead of the #2 pick. The Cowboys aren't going to be an elite team paying Dak elite money.

I just have to remind people of that game. It wasn't long ago. Dallas was down 41-14 against the freaking Browns before they went into prevent to run the clock out. The final score of 49-38 was in no way, shape or form reflective of just how bad of an butt kicking it was.

Dallas was ahead when Dak went out. And they were in giants territory for another score.

Dallas lost the lead because of the dalton fumble.
Yup. Dalton threw 1 inaccurate pass on 3rd down which I believe Lamb made a great catch on and then Zeke ran it in for an 8 point lead.

Starter also gets the win/loss anyway. Had Dalton blown the game, which he tried to do, the loss would be on Dak. Thankfully Gallup answered the Hail Mary.

Doesn't matter which way you go.

1. Pay Dak, limit what you can pay for the rest of the team, and end up with a mediocre team.

2. Don't pay Dak, draft a rookie, and by the time he learns the pro game, you'll lose Zeke, T. Smith, Z. Martin, Cooper, Awuzie, and so forth and so forth to age, or free agency (who would want to stay with this putrid team?) and have an excellent quarterback (if your rookie turns out great) with no supporting cast.

As long as Jerry is the general manager, and maybe if Stephen becomes the general manager, this team is going NOWHERE...

You make some good points. But this is why the structure is so important.

the cap hit can’t be 35-40 mil. Or at least not until the cap goes up even more.

the cap hit the first couple of seasons of any deal would be much lower than 35 mil.

Look at romo’s contracts. His cap % was lower many seasons because of restructures. Hence why the cowboys were taking cap hits from Romo for 2 seasons after he was gone.

end of the day. I think people focus on the per year number way too much. It’s the structure and guarantees that matter because they are what dictates cap hits.

They were 1-3 with Dak and he was pedestrian until the score would get out of hand. You don't get bonus points for making blowout losses look prettier.

Why go with the sure thing at franchise QB, when you can choose somebody with a 25% of turning out average!
