Yes. It was around 09 or so, I believe, when the OL was falling apart and Jerry was asked why he didn't go OL in the 2010 draft.
Well that’s stupid of course. He changed his mind apparently though when he drafted Tyron

I used to be a huge fan because of the passion the guy brought for winning. However over time we've seen who he's become. End of the day he's rich, he'll never have to work another day in his life. I think he sees the cowboys as challenge, to try and prove to himself he can win his way, and only his way.

He'd rather lose and potentially get all the credit, than win and have to share it. Which i never understood because with the patriots all they do is give bob kraft credit, and show him a million times a game.
He gets “owner credit” though. That’s different than “football credit”. Jerry wants credit for a being a football genius when it comes to evaluating talent and putting rosters together. This is what he craves.

Curious to get other’s takes. In the beginning I loved Jerry Jones. He was brash. He hired Jimmy Johnson. He acted like he would do anything to win. Firing Jimmy was the beginning of my hate for the guy. He seemed like a complete narcissist. A string of bad hirings and the franchise was in the toilet. I started to feel better with the Parcells hiring. I thought Jerry may have learned his lesson and was back to being serious. We now know that was a publicity stunt to get his stadium built. His hubris really took off. I hated the Garrett hire. It made no sense. The guy hadn’t exhibited anything that would suggest he would be a great HC. Jerry jammed Garrett and his nonsense down fans throats for 10 years. I liked the McCarthy hire but he wouldn’t have been my first choice. I wanted a lunatic taskmaster like Meyer to shake this lazy culture up. Now it seems like the place is finally imploding. I pity Mike McCarthy. This is not his fault.

I do not differentiate between Jerry the GM and Jerry the owner. The are codependent and both suck. I also don’t buy the Jerry is a nice guy bit.

Count me in the I despise Jerry group.

Where are you guys?
No. He owns a business and he is the best in the business at making money. He is a genius. It's unfortunate for fans that in business money is more important than Winning. Being a fan sucks.

Not at all, I think "owner hate" is just a thing fans do. I'm on other boards for other bad teams I like and "owner hate" seems to be prevelant and frankly extreme, so much so it comes across as really silly some times. Like Jones haters could do a better job themselves if they owned the team, or Jones is just counting money and laughing but he doesnt really give a darn about winning. Thats all nonsense. There are dozens and dozens of major league team sports owners in North America who own teams for decades and never win a championship. Ill never hate the man who got us Super Bowls 3, 4 and 5.

Its football which is no reason to despise anyone. With all the bad and rotten thats going on in the world, Jerry is the least of it. Can he manage or build a football team? Hell no.

A D Bag maybe but not a cry baby. I get it.

Yes, yes. Throwing a temper tantrum and despising someone I don't know because my favorite football team doesn't do what I want them to is just so... mature?

Ok you can step off the soap box. Your virtue signals are noted. This is an opinion forum. Folks vent. If you don’t like the venting move to another post.

There are a number of people on these boards who could've done a much much better job than Jones over the last 25 years. Amazing that you don't see it.

A guy who wants to win does whatever it takes to get a super bowl contender together. Jerry does not. Which means winning is not at the top for him.

I don’t despise Jerry. I don’t take my sports serious enough to hate anyone.

BUT....
  • Am I done with Jerry? Yes. Have been for years.
  • Do I think he’s a good owner? No. A good owner would fire this GM. Would have years ago.
  • Do I think he has something wrong with him as in some kind of fundamental insecurity that makes him a selfish narcissist? Yes.
  • Do I think he is getting worse? Yes.
  • Do I think we are helpless to do anything to make him change? Absolutely not. It’s going to take some of the season ticket holders and former players helping though.

I love the owner hate the rest of it. All of it past I'm the owner of the Cowboys and being a fan is total BS. He needs to remember what Steinbrenner did with the Yankees when he realized he was to close. Put the people in place and be a fan again. Don't give two craps about players and their contracts. Let the team people do their job and don't take meetings from players. Be a fan again! You can't be a fan and a GM it just doesn't work that way.
Didn't it take MLB suspending Steinbrenner in the 90s to launch the dynasty in the 90s and 2000s? Gene Michaels was the architect of that dynasty.............anyone have dirt on Jerry to get him suspended???

I would love to see a group of former players try to buy the team. I know it is highly unlikely Jerry would sell, but just having the public responding positively to the idea of a new ownership group with new ideas, new hope...at the very least let Jerry get the message he has lost this fan base. It’s a message he needs to hear.

If I was a youngster, I doubt if I'd be a Cowboys fan.

You? Really? Of all people, its always the guy who starts 40 identical threads on the topic that ends up surprising everyone.

Picture my shocked face.

Ditto. He bought the team, and as much as I wish he weren't the GM, and as much as I dislike his actions as a GM with the power of ownership behind him, it's his choice, and I can't despise a man for doing what he chooses with an asset he owns. I just strongly disagree with many of his choices.

But his choices at this point are really just when to run his mouth and for how long. The football decisions were turned over to Will McClay a long time ago. Stephen does the finance side and Jerry rushes to the scene when TV cameras go on, but he is really a veto authority than a nuts and bolts decision maker.
