Dumbest Post response of the year so far!
Your reasoning for the team/Jerry picking him is ********. Lamb was the Top Player on their Draft board so that's why they did it. You, as a Genius GM, would rather reach for a Defensive player just because you needed one?
there were other options available as well as trading down a few spots..... we saw clearly this year, this team is in high need of defense....now, hind sight is 2020, but Chaisson was rated high on their draft board, instead they went offense because why? oh, too good to pass up and it led us to 6-10 season....

if on my board based on my evaluations, two players are close without much difference in my rankings between them, I go with the position of need. not a position I am already 3 deep in.

Except the team has been among the top 3 in the league in drafting the last 10 years. But let that narrative keep going for you.

By what metric? Certainly we haven't been a top 3 team in any of the last 10 years. A guy that uses Parcels as their avatar should know that "you are what your record says you are"........

If he was legit top 10, why was he available at 17? Why did 10-16 pass on him?

Teams pass on better players in every draft to get what they need to address their needs.

The Cowboys already have the #1 O and #2 Pass O and they need another WR? I would have been OK with them taking Diggs at 17, that was a need.
How many people passed on Aaron Rodgers? What a weird way to look at it. Im sure in hindsight the Raiders would have taken Jefferson over Ruggs. You dont draft for need. You need to draft the best player on the board.

There was no one at our pick last season who would have made the impact Lamb did in our offense on defence. No one.

Te Pitts. Alabama top two WRs. Ohio State RB.
we have Jarwin who we handed a contract to. we have schultz he turned into a top 10 TE in the league based on his performance....now you want to be 3 deep at TE and 4 deep at WR? and three deep at RB? but 0 deep at DT, 0 deep at saftey, 1 deep at DB, 2 deep at DE and 1 deep at LB..... how does that make sense?

JERRY needed a WR because revenue matters more to him than actual success on the football field. Hopefully he saw how bad our DBs are besides Wilson and Diggs and also how terrible our run defense is. Fire Nolan and bring in a real DC who will build a defense that actually gets the job done.
He is a follow the ball GM and was actually the first owner to talk about the NFL in terms of entertainment and not a sport. That's how he sees it and from a financial point of view, he sees it very well.

And apparently we have members who do as well because every time the new value of the team gets posted by Forbes, that becomes a thing here. Some have that same pride in his money as he does.

Yes, it was a mistake because it was all for flash and splash while bobbing around on the ocean, it was a pick for applause. It was all luxury for a team deep in needs.

The case some make is the value of Lamb at 17. Was he not a value at 16, 15, 14, 13? Why did those GM's pass on him? Because they're GM's with their jobs on the line to improve the team, not take a bow for a draft pick.

Another case is what D player was worth that pick? Chaisson? The answer is any D player that could help the worst D in the league and worst in Cowboys history. He didn't have to be a world beater, just a player they could count on to be 1 of the 11.

1 of 11. How many do they have now? If they'd used that on a D player, might they be closer than they are now? And what if he doesn't work out? Then they'd know and keep going back to the well.

I saw all of the celebrating here when they took Lamb and few asking why was he available? Partly because most GM's were trying to fill needs and partly because they didn't have him at 6th on their board.

He was the Cowboys first pick and led them in drops and was 2nd in the league in drops but his fans here will make excuses for him. And WR is the most plentiful position in the league.

This draft should be the easiest for the Cowboys, if they go D as they should have last year. Their needs are plenty and the only position they don't need with that first pick is DE.

The Lamb pick was a mistake and I had 0 doubt about that then or now. However, my greatest doubt about this team remains the same, they're just not good at talent evaluation and compound that by doubling down on some of their selections because they look at it from an ego standpoint. If it is mine, it must be good.

Lamb? No thank you, give me the beef!
You don't deserve to be a mod!!!!!

Oh well, why stop at Aaron Rodgers? Throw in Brady , Montana, Marino, Brees........... it proves nothing other than these guys far exceeded their college evaluations. Drafting has to be a combination of need and value. CD was the best value at #17 but we had just signed Amari Cooper to a 100M deal and Gallup was coming off 1k yard receiving. So, adding another WR was just stacking the position not improving the team. And guess what, go look at the 2021 draft. Great chance the BPA at #10 is going to be a WR. You picking another one? lol

We picked Taco for need. How did that workout?
I agree with picking for need in general, but if you strongly believe the player available at your pick, who my not be a top need, is the best value by far, like CD, you take him.
DL was the right pick. We just selected the wrong one.

Actually we are a fantasy team that has the best PR arm in the NFL. Which is why every year we are contending for SB titles on paper. It's also why I never understand why people get mad at Stephen A Smith for his views, year he's a ****** but if you stop and think, is he really wrong about this organization?

I have no issue getting Lamb, talent dropping in our laps I'm not willing to pass up. Draft is not some short term fix and when you have the opportunity to grad talent of that caliber you take it

He’s a Cowboys Troll. Biggest one on TV. Trolls can be right about certain aspects. Celebrating our failure to be right is quite another issue.

When you combine the Lamb pick last year with the Amari Cooper trade for a 2019 first round pick, we essentially drafted WRs in the first round in back to back drafts. The problem isn’t that Cooper or Lamb aren’t talented. The problem is a fundamental misunderstanding at the top of this organization about how to build a roster.

Lamb is a super talented player no doubt. It’s just that his talent (as well as Cooper and Gallup) is squandered because their defense is so untalented and inept, it cancels out the value of having loads of talent at WR. TEAMS WIN, not individual players. That simple truth has escaped the Jones cartel for nearly three decades.
This is like the old Coryell teams in SD with Fouts and all stars at WR's, fun to watch but didn't get any trophies.

What some don't realize that what was considered the best offense in the game, The Greatest Show on Turf, had the #1 D the year they won the SB and it was the unraveling of that D that began their decline and Martz wanted his stars.

What other team does this bring to mind? Oh yeah, the 92 Cowboys with the Triplets and the #1D in the league with nary a pber on it. They were able to not only keep it together but add to it and win 3 out of 4 because they had that D. That vaunted Triplets offense didn't even lead the league in offense.

The difference Johnson would have made is that he would have never allowed the O to rule over the D on his team. That was the struggle he had in MIA, the best D killing QB of all time was Marino. He was a pick 6 waiting to happen and Johnson would have loved to have traded him but he was royalty.

In Cap era BPA takes on a different meaning. You can’t afford to stockpile strengths.

Hey guys, we should have taken Chaisson instead of Lamb

Defense is such a massive need. His 1 sack would have won us the division.
