Counting the pre-Super Bowl era, I am pretty sure the Packers have 13 championships by themselves, while the Steelers have 6 SB wins.

You’re right they do have 13 championships. They’ve won so many I’ve lost count.

Ummmm.. I love Darren to but Charles Woodson is deserving of being a finalist as a first timer. He is one of the greatest CBs to ever play the game.
Yeah Charles woodson was 9x pro bowler and made 1st or 2nd team all-pro 8 times along with winning defensive player of the year

No disrespect to Darren but his accolades aren't even in the same realm. Even someone like Eric Weddle arguably has better accolades than Darren let's be real here

So what Steeler got in this year....Bobby Walden?
Steeler that needs to hurry up and get in is Alan Faneca.

9x pro bowler, 1st team all-decade, and 6x 1st team all-pro. I think this is his 6th or 7th attempt on the ballot which is unreal to be honest (hall voters hate interior offensive lineman, 6x 1st team all-pro and 1st team all-decade are all borderline 1st ballot numbers)

Well at least Darren is in the Ring of Honor, since it appears he was more valuable and respected here than the goofs in the selection committee. Maybe he wasn't flashy enough for them.

Woodson deserves to get in one day, but when you look at that list who would you actually take off for Woodson? So it's hard to say he was screwed. There are some very good players on the list. It's not like there are any Terrell Davis types which I have no idea how he got in or so soon.

Probably could make a case in place of Sam Mills and Clay Matthews, but I would be surprised if either is selected this year. Its tough to get in to the hall of fame.(Mostly)

Good point. Hard to say he's screwed when
1. Almost every single finalist is signficantly ahead of him in accolades and
2. His accolades are average compared to players that actual get in at his position (Brian Dawkins, Charles Woodson, Polamalu, Ed Reed).

You solved the mystery! Cowboys haters! :muttley:

As opposed to perhaps we are a tad biased because we love DW and the titles he helped win? Nah, that couldn't possibly have anything to do with it.

COWBOYS HATERS!
the Cowboys are VERY well represented in the hall. There are definitely some Boys I think should be in who are not but all said and done I am very pleased with our totals there and every once in a while we get another in that I wasnt expecting like when Rayfield Wright made it, and more recently Cliff Harris

I'm fine with it this year. Manning, Woodson, Johnson, and Allen are all walk-in first ballot HOFers, so it doesn't leave a lot of room for Woody to get in.

He deserves to be in eventually, but this isn't his year. There's three inner-circle HOFers that need to be processed first.

Charles Woodson was a lot better than Darren Woodson and it’s not even close. Charles Woodson had 62 career INT’s with 11 TDs compared to 23 INT’s and 2 TDs for Darren Woodson. Some of you need to take off your homer caps.
Terrell Owens totally schooled Charles Woodson. No contest.

Charles Woodson couldn't cover the 12 year veteran, Reggie Wayne. Notice how Woodson had to constantly grab and hold Wayne.

Charles Woodson struggled late against Marvin Harrison.

Charles Woodson was great many times. Just seemed liked he struggled covering the very best WRs. Lots of hugging and holding on his part.

I'm kind of there with you. He was a great player, but think we value him more bc a lot of his good years towards the end were on bad teams. I know that Campo era made me even more of a Woody fan bc he was one of the few bright spots. A SS who could play the slot (unheard of in todays game) and hit like a Mack truck. His nemesis Leroy Butler or Jon Lynch hogged a lot of the attention back then and remember it griped me at that time too.

HOF very subjective in the Voter eyes......Dan Fouts in, but no Air Coryell in? Always baffled me. Coryell revolutionized the passing game....and made Dan Fouts.

Going to be a loaded class this year.

Hoping Z Thomas has an outside chance of getting in

It's easy to cherry pick a player's 14-15 year career for negative plays.

Charles Woodson is a Top 10 NFL DB of all time.

65 interceptions.
8 All Pro Appearances
Heisman Trophy Winner (nothing to do with his NFL performance, but notable anyway)
NFL Defensive Player of the Year
Won a Superbowl

The real surprise here is that Leroy Butler advanced to the final 15 candidates.

For a long time Woodson and Butler had been effectively cancelling each-other out (along with Atwater) as the best safeties of the 90's.

A positive note going forward- this was Woodson's first year of eligibility.

First ballot HOF'ers generally are players that were top performers in one skill area, like running, passing, sacks or in the case of like offensive linemen have long careers with multiple Pro Bowls. Though there are exceptions.

Darren did everything very well, but nothing that really stands out, except leading Dallas in tackles, which isn't a stat that is as noteworthy as sacks, touchdowns, yards, etc. 5 Pro Bowls is pretty good, but Mel Renfro had 10.

But maybe the biggest reason he didn't get in was that he played on Cowboys teams in the late 1990's and early 2000's that weren't that good. People tend to remember the "what have you done lately" things...

Jimmy and Cliff should've been in awhile ago too.

My main gripe is how underrepresented the Cowboys organization is in Canton, especially Landry's Cowboys.

They're in, aren't they? You want style points? How do Landry's Cowboys compare to Shula's Dolphins? By my count they both have 8 of their players each in the Hall. Both coaches won 2 SB's. Similarly, they both were simply outshined by the Steelers in their day. Neither made much noise in the 80s but the Dolphins were closer than we ever got. Where's the crime?
