Coach, it has been a longtime since I lived in Texas and when I did, it was prior to deregulation. I recall that prior to de-reg, the Texas power grid was essentially a monopoly... there was no choice in energy providers, no recourse to excessive energy bills, etc. When deregulation came about (I seem to recall around 1999-2001), the vast majority of people's energy bills dropped and, some, quite significantly. It would make for a good Harvard Business Review to understand how we got from there to here.

I hope your taste buds are doing better than your smell buds, but if you can't taste the soda, just keep it in storage until you can....and most importantly, don't blame me!

My brother had an electric bill a couple of years ago of over $600, and his house isn't all that big. My advice was to put all his kids up for adoption (even the ones who's moved out years before) but his girlfriend wouldn't go for it.

As for the food in Texas, I'm sure all Hooters are pretty much the same.
There was a spokesperson on for one of the Austin suppliers and he said it went from a unit cost of 10 cents to $9 in a matter of hours. That's a hell of an increase and my question was it just did this on it's own? Electricity is now smart enough to price itself? Shocking!! Yes, bad pun but it's the weekend, I am a much better weekday punster.

Deregulation means they can stop watching them like they did the banks. Anytime anyone says they're leaving it up to the industry to police itself, I make sure I am not invested in that industry.

CC, in my experience, deregulating usually means immediate dividends to the consumer while some of the companies figure out how to circumvent and exploit the system. Then, it begins to unravel.

Going to be interesting to see how this unfolds. There are some people that are not happy that an investigation is going to take place. I think they're going to be unhappier.

Afternoon Pops and everyone.

Celebrating from afar... today is my granddaughter’s 5th birthday. Missing another one. Really miss being with them. Daughter’s #30 is the 27th. Sent gifts for the 5yo and making cookies for my daughter that I’ll ship tomorrow. Made cookies yesterday for a friend who is gluten free. It’s what I do.

Snowing again... earlier I cooked a whole chicken so I’ll eat on that this week and make soup with whatever is left at the end of the week I suppose.

Got my REO cd in playing as loud as I wanna (they are from here in Illinois, you know...). 38 Special, Slow Hand (Clapton, for those of you who don’t know) and Journey are queued up too. Last week at work I was humming an REO tune and boss man asked what I was listening to. I said “Time for Me to Fly”. He wasn’t sure how to take that. We’ve been butting heads a lot lately. I guess there’s really nothing keeping me here anymore so nothing to stop me from just up and leaving if I get much more disgusted (been there 21 years this April 4th.) So busy at work I’m working everyday either there or remote from home. He said he’d allow me to hire another person... (wait for it... there’s a big “but” coming...) BUT I’d have to take a pay cut. WTH???

Back to the cookies and my music. Have a great work week for those of you who do work. Everyone else, have a great time doing whatever it is lucky retirees get to do.

Oh Jan, I thought you were saying your daughter was having her 30th kid on the 27th. She'd be a regular Pez dispenser if that were the case. I figured it out, but thought you might get a kick out of the misunderstanding.

I can't remember any REO songs off the top, middle and bottom of my head. I will brag about Hank Williams Jr being born in Shreveport, the very one that gave us Are You Ready For Some Football! His daddy and Loretta Lynn however were the banes of my existence. Daddy never got tired of hearing that worn into the ground racket. Marty Robbins was pretty good though with a big iron on his hip. Did y'all notice I didn't mention Terry Bradshaw?

While on the discussion of crunchy music, ask your boss if he ever heard that Johnny Paycheck song.

What if the person you hire is a hitman? Would you still have to take a pay cut?

:lmao2: I have no doubt I wouldn’t be the first to ask:D. He’s kind of got me stuck, what with the mortgage and my needing my insurance and all. If I find another job I might very well tell him I’ll stay on part time and he can find another full time person, but I need to be very sure of what I’m doing before I go jumping off that bridge without a bungee.

Afternoon Pops and Popsadoodles. Today we celebrated Leon in a tee shirt working on his tea shot. I stepped outside to refill the bird feeders and thought that wacky weather has us thinking these cold temperatures aren't that bad. I kicked some ice around on my patio which faces north. Eventually, I checked the weather channel and it's 68 little dots here. No wonder everything felt normal. The mail ran and I got my rice in! Now to cook it. I've had my ears fine tuned for the UPS trucks, but no such luck. The back wheels are probably sagging by now. As usual, it missed Christmas to the second power.

That's because you were one of the cool kids with good parents.

Cue the violins! I was born to parents that when they went to buy milk, that's all they got. Bread? Bread. I remember one time some Waylon Jennings came home without my permission, but a piece of candy? NO! Both parents turned Gandalf on me at the candy counter with arms wide spread saying "You shall not pass" or have anything your little heart desires. *Violins fade on a somber, heartbreaking note* I need a tissue. That may be why I ender a store with an anything goes mentality. I actually tried shopping their way once, it was horrible.
