Watson just got a 40M and several teams have experssed interest in not only paying 40M, but giving up picks too...are you sure there is no market for Dak?

Watson is a rare combination of passer and athlete. The time it takes Dak Prescott to go through his reads alone makes him a liability in the passing game.

No one knows. It’s all speculation . But rest assured there’s some market. How much, you don’t know until you throw your name in the ring. But history in this league would support anyone needing a QB would probably over pay.

And I think Watson is a pretty good gauge into what Dak could fetch.

I was one of those, back before 2018 started. I had concerns about certain aspects of his game and said, multiple times that the reason he tends to hold on to the ball is that he may not feel he can put the ball where he wants and its due to his footwork. if he can fix his footwork, then his accuracy will improve, his confidence in his throws will improve and he will be a much better QB. I said it at the time, its better to wait another year, see if he improves, if he does, we may end up paying a few millions more, and in grand scheme of things that really doesn't matter, instead of paying 28,29M and he is not the guy we want...and guess what. we are where I hoped we would be and I am ok with paying a little more. I was ok paying him 35 last year and given the market moved, I am ok paying 40M....3 years from now its totally irrelevant to the cap and whom we may want to sign
Right

I was much more impressed with his progress in 2018 and beyond. I thought for sure we’d sign him before 2018 season finished avoiding the drama going into final year of his Rookie deal.

But it’s beginning to look like it wasn’t just some of the fans who needed to see more before coughing up big bucks. I’m truly shocked . I certainly thought our ownership was All In. And thought that’s why they brought in McCarthy and retained Moore determined to make a run with Dak and this offense they’ve built around him.

Now all of a sudden , we are balking over a few million and it’s costing more each day. We could have signed him last year for 35 but we wanted 5 instead of 4 years.

Now the price is going to be 40 or more and he only wants 3 years. We appear to be losing ground. And our ownership certainly deserves blame for not getting a deal done sooner.

We could have signed him for 35 for 5 too, had he and his agent not backed out of an agreed upon deal.

Name those folks, because I've seen folks saying sign the man 2 years ago

For the most part, any of you, such as yourself that have never wanted to sign Dak to a new contract. Your response was to not sign him, or tag him as to give another year of evaluation because you weren't convinced.

lol...I know you've been seeing things, I've been on the sign Dak train from the beginning. I've been convinced since 2016...lol the fact is the same people that's been against Dak signing then, are the same ones against it now

So I'm not against Dak. I'm against a 40-45 million dollar salary killing the cap. If we have that, regardless who the QB is, we will be average.

At past and current cap levels, 40-45mil busts the cap. After the new tv deals, it may be a bargain.

The reported increase in the Disney/ABC deal is 30%. If that's in the ballpark for the tv deals generally, 40-45 is fine for Dak.

Only a handful for people really know what’s going on with negotiations
None of them are posting here

Or what's *gone on* with the negotiations for the last 2 years. Too much of this sours fan feelings about the team and Dak. At least it has for me.

It has been obvious to me the guy was going to be a great QB and he just needed some time to mature and develop like most QB's. His leadership and work ethic were top notch. I didn't see inaccuracy. I saw a guy that needed to improve his pocket awareness a little bit, step up in the pocket better, and know better when to take off and run.

Jerry knew it too and just bumbled it completely. Played hard ball on the wrong guy when it should have been fools like Zeke and Lawrence.

Of course If you were unsure. Fans are allowed to be fickle or wishy washy. They aren’t involved in the decision process. Who cares. But ownership must be more certain.

I thought Jethro and the powers that be have been All In for years. Why did they wait until his Rookie contract expire and let it come to this point. It’s going to cost them millions more or possibly lose their Franchise QB. Neither of which is good for Cowboys Football.

Yep, so your blaming Jerry for waiting when thats exactly what you wanted him to do. Now you agree we should have signed him two years ago cheaper.

Some never want him signed. The ones that have been dead wrong on Dak all along. But some were wanting to wait and are pissed we didnt sign him two years ago.

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
1. His asking price must be too high again

2. Mike M must not have full faith in him, as does Stephen

Both go hand in hand.

If they thought he was the elite QB, some here believe, he would get whatever. Mike would let it be known, "bro, we need this dude by any means"

I'm not a Dak fan, but ready for this to be over.

Trade him or just out right let him walk.
What does it mean to say his asking price is too high? Does that mean it's too high for what the QB market has been, or just too high for what Jerry feels he can do with the salary cap?

In any case, the reporting last year wasn't that Dak's asking price was too high anyway, it was that there was a disagreement on the length of the deal.

As for the team and/or Mike McCarthy not having full faith in him, I don't see that as a reasonable conclusion because the team wouldn't even be negotiating in the realm of the dollars and years it would take to sign Dak if they weren't pretty damn convinced. It seems much more likely the consideration is more in fitting things within the salary cap.

You're crazy he'd be right in the division in Washington in a heartbeat or Chicago
You are correct, I just don't understand why bias cowboy fans can't grasp the concept that NFL teams don't have their biases and understand far better than they do what a good competent NFL quarterback Dak is.
