The most important upgrade for this team

Establishing culture is a tricky proposition because that person has to first ask themselves "what do I want the end result to be"? Then, that becomes the filter for everything.

The first step is to change the thinking from "this is mine" to "this is theirs". "Theirs" being the actual team, not the fans. Booger is incapable of doing that as he is possessive and will gladly tell any critic to plop down their own 140M.

He is more interested in being one of the guys and having the players like him so he says nice things about them in the media and gives them all the excuses they need in advance. He is much quicker to hint at criticism of his coaches than accept that about his players.

This is a culture of enabling and excuse making because it is still his and not theirs. The right culture demands they take ownership of the team and accountability and responsibility for it. They are not accountable because it is not theirs.

Just watching them play is a time investment but paying to watch this team play is so foreign to me. I did that for a time in the 80's. I'd complain about them and my wife would just look at me and ask "why are we spending this amount of money for you to complain about them? Give me that to go shopping and I'll be glad to come home and listen to you complain all you want". I didn't have a good answer to that, she loved trick questions.

You just explained why I haven't gone to a Cowboys game since (just looked it up) October 1, 2012, a humbling defeat at the hands of Jay Cutler (34-18). Like Vince Young two years earlier, Cutler shredded the Cowboys.

The only win I've seen in Jerryworld was a Monday night 18-16 win over Washington in 2011, thanks to Dan Bailey. It was an ugly game, the only real excitement was the defense getting a late stop to preserve the win. Good thing Rex Grossman was the WFT's QB that night.

We all know we need help at multiple positions. We can talk Safeties, DTs, LBs...whatever position of need we have on this team. But the most important upgrade our Cowboys need...the biggest obstacle holding this team back from being a contender is its CULTURE. Currently, it’s as soft as a roll of Charmin and entitled as someone named Spalding.

Yes, we must have talent upgrades at multiple positions. Talent is critical to success in any sport. We need lots more talent for sure. But what this team needs more than anything- its players, coaches and entire organization, is to get tougher and more accountable.

You could bring in 10 HOFers at multiple positions, but until this culture toughens up- I hate to say it- we should not expect much to change. The difference between a typical 8-8 season and a deep playoff run isn’t just talent. It’s a change in the culture. That’s the most important element Tom Brady brought to the Buccaneers this past year. Accountability and toughness. It matters a ton.

The difference in talent between teams winning SBs and those who only flirt with it, is usually the culture.
I definitely don't want Jerry to sell the team.

I dont even wish for him to step down as GM officially.

I VERY much wish he would understand how doing things like....as a small example Wade wanted to fine guys for being late, Jerry has to step in as the hero and say no....completely undermines the staff and makes their difficult jobs that much tougher.

The idea that DLaw would tell rookies not to listen to coaches bc Jerry runs the show wasnt dreamed up by Lawrence himself.

This is the public stuff. Lord only knows how bad it really is....and all he needs to do is make it clear that everything starts and ends with the coaches, but his ego won't allow him to do it.

He should probably stay off the radio also, but he is only doing this to be a celebrity.

So yeah.....its not about money for him, and of course he wants to win.

Just not enough to realize what needs to be done....and its very short of stepping down as GM.

He isnt dumb. He knows this. Just won't do it....and/or refuses to believe it's a problem at all.

The most successful coach/GM of all time goes out of his way to tell the public as little as possible. Ours does the opposite.

Just shut up Jerry. Stay away from players and microphones and all the credit will still go to you.

Promise.

I get that, people have views and this gives them a chance to give their views. I only ask how can you support and spend time watching something you despise?
As for your statement get to the NFC Championship or a SB and watch it change to 80%? well to me that is nothing more than a bandwagon fan. I'm a grown man I can deal with losing, I don't like it but I can handle it believe me there are a lot of things in life I deal with that is more stressful than a football game. I don't always agree with moves but once it is done I support the team since after all there is nothing I can do about it
You're misreading these fans. They don't despise the Cowboys, but rather despise certain aspects about the team, including what this team has become under Jerry.

Yes!! Greatness takes more than talent and stats, doesn’t it? It takes culture—attitude, personality, dedication to certain ideals, right? I’m having a similar debate with someone right now, who INSISTS that the only thing that makes greatness is on field accomplishments.

It's really this simple.

Jerry doesn't want to win, his overriding desire is to be known as the guy who built a winner.

Vince Young was 12-25 for less than 200 yards that game, and the Titans had two touchdown drives of 5 yards or less. It's one thing to completely make things up, it's another to repeat them lol

True! This team needs to find something that connects them to each other, something to rally around, maybe a common experience(maybe at training camp) that bonds this team together. They are all going to have to find a fire that burns hot within them to accomplish their goals that they set this coming season. Team leaders, coaches, and players alike need to encourage this common bond to one another, foster the culture that breeds winners. They need to taste what it's like to be consistent winners and be respected by the rest of the league as an advisory. Once that happens they will want to experience winning every week. It will motivate the whole team to try much harder. Every player can look every other player in the eye and know they absolutely have each other's backs.
I like it.

They also need a vocal leader on defense.

Maybe Neal can be that guy.

I felt like they have been lacking that.

Lee and LVE were always out too much.

DL isn't really that guy.

Well said. If the desire to win is paramount, then all impediments to winning should be removed. Obviously the desire to win with our owner is NOT paramount,

Maybe us fans need to stop being comfortable enough with mediocrity and we stop buying a mediocre product.
I've stopped buying all merchandise long ago.

Any tickets I've bought lately are second hand and the team was paid anyway.

I can't stop rooting or hoping though and I won't.

As an example I truly dislike Ezekiel Elliott, but when game day comes I'm with him entirely. I can't fix that nor do I wish to.

No one is making up anything, sport. 2 TD passes, 0 INTs, 97.6 QB rating that game.

His career numbers? 46 TDs, 51 INTs, and a 74.4 QB rating, nowhere close to what he did against the Cowboys.

Next time you run for a box score to continue your perpetual defense of Jerry Jones make sure you actually know what you're talking about, "lol"

I hope jerry learns you can't jut keep polishing a rock and calling it a Dimond. He still needs to finish paying for AT&T. fans are generational and we are getting long in the tooth.
Jerry is a salesman, and a damn good one at that.

He has a voice, and he will use it to sell his product.

Where the problem lies is that he is also the GM....and while he attempts to sell his inferior product, it rewards sub par play in the ears of the players.

Its a true mess and I fully believe this contributes to the lack of edge that Dallas players have had for quite some time.

Thats why we got rid of Garrett. I think we need to give MM and the new Quinn more than one injury plagued year with no preseason.

But the Jerry culture problem isnt going away anytime soon.

Quite shocking how many have no clue what you're saying, Bob.
I think they do, but maybe like Jerry, they don't see it as a problem.

I mean, their fantasy teams have no culture issues, and thats how many people think these days....these guys are robots.

Very not true. They need to be pushed to the limit by coaches by some sort of fear.....and Jerry's need to be the good guy with players makes that tough to pull off.

When it gets to the point players are choosing between us and the Jets, it's a new low. Just saying.

Ha yeah. That was the "report."

Neal's agent was probably behind that one....and likely squeezed a few extra bucks out of Jerry.

Neal seemed like the one FA that they didn't want to miss on.

It will be interesting to see how different this year is we rapport etc as they look like they will have a full camp year etc. We will also get an extra week due to the HOF game. It will be valuable for the defense for sure.
