Good lord....LOL and he was asking me for evidence that he is wrong nearly every post....he just keeps giving more and more.

Its mind boggling what goes on in there. Its like EVERY post is the complete opposite.

And at least he gave us the benefit of explaining his reasoning this time so we can try to understand it.

His conclusion: "Sign him long term"

His reasoning as to why: "We have no idea about his health issues."

Things just arent firing correctly up there. Has to be some problem there no doubt about it.

...with always being one play away from sideline. I would get another LB asap.

The 9 million option is a big price tag based on his injury history, but would be a reasonable deal if he can contribute like his rookie year. It's a tough decision in some respects if you're holding on to what it looked like we had 2 years ago and believe he may finally have his neck issue sorted out. Personally, I would decline the option and inquire on what an extension would cost to keep him around for a few more years for significantly less. If it was 4-5 million a season with an out after 2 years I would take that gamble.
The prudent thing to do is not pick up the option. If LVE returns to 2018 form - especially if he plays all 17 games - other teams can assess LVE's comeback, and could chose to go after him. Can he do it under DC Quinn's direction?

I have to ask, at this point would anybody be shocked to read of an LVE early retirement announcement?

I sure wouldn’t.
hate to say it...but i agree.
love the guy but it looks like he ain't for long.
i won't be shocked at all if we triple dip at LB in the draft.
our lack of depth is spooky.

Only Dallas would select a linebacker with a bum neck in the first round and another with nerve damage in the second...
...and they could choose a cornerback with back issues in one of those rounds in a couple of weeks...

...feel for the guy. The NFL is brutal stronger, faster, smarter players ready to take your head off. I cant see how he can last with neck injuries.

Cmon guys we all know what's going to happen, LVE will ball out this year, Jerry will give him a big contract and the very next year LVE will go back to playing bad and getting hurt...

You can almost guarantee Jerry will do the wrong thing here. Unless LVE plays like a monster for 16 games it should not even be considered.
but i think they have to decide by early may if they are going to pick up his option

he just needs a big contract, our guys play better when you give them more money. Maybe he can rehab with Dak if you give him more money.

If this happens, he's a free agent after this season. In other words, our LBer issue is more serious some believe. Can't imagine not drafting one within the first 3 picks.

19. Leighton Vander Esch, LB, Dallas Cowboys
Cost: $9,145,000

AV Index: 20 Actual | 17.2 Expected | 116% | 14th

YES | NO | OTHER

Vander Esch made a positive impact as a rookie, but injury concerns that followed him from Boise State into the NFL have proved justified. He’s missed 13 games over the past two seasons. Some teams removed Vander Esch from their draft boards over injury concerns. The Cowboys obviously were not one of them. Will they double down on a questionable initial investment?

They should pick up the 5th year.

He will get a 2nd contract.

Sure. The broken collar bone was bad lick.

But he has all the abilities to play.

And a Pro Bowl.

I don't know how they guarantee that. His play has not justified that kind of money since his rookie year.

But I'd rather have LVE at 9.1m than Jaylon at 7.2m, and they just guaranteed the latter, so I won't be shocked if they guarantee the former too.

Somebody has got to get that sweet sweet Crawford Money for Nothing, right?

That’s a high price even if just based on his rookie season alone. It would probably be wise to move on rather than throw good money after bad. I would, however, think about bringing him back for a lot less.
Let's see if he can rebound under Quinn.
Then make an offer if we want.

They have to decide this year, before mid May.
I think May 5th, or somewhere there about.
I’d wait till after the draft
May 3rd is the deadline
If you do get some quality help then let him walk
If not you have a tough decision because we don’t have much there right now

Jaylon for 2021 is 9.8
But after 2021 we can move on from him because it then goes to 11
I’d rather keep LVE that extra year and make it easier to move on from jaylon and not need two LB’s the same year
