Hip surgery isn't a definite career injury, Smith had never taking a year out to correct his issue, he did last season, I have faith he play most of the season and at a high level, and if he miss a game or a few, I feel our depth can be serviceable enough, as long as ALL 4 DOESN'T HAVE TO PLAY AT ONCE, as they did last year. even with Sewell in that scenario, the o line will be bad.
Tyron’s back problems will not go away. As he ages, it will only become a bigger problem. Degenerative Disc Disease becomes a big problem that is accelerated with age and other smaller injuries to his back. Tyron might be able to play an entire season, but it is highly doubtful. Being in a position where they could draft Sewell is an opportunity that is too good to pass up. There is a very good chance that Dallas will not have another chance to draft a top LT for several years to come. I have my doubts that Sewell will drop to the 10th pick, so we are probably wasting time discussing it.

Don't care about the CB position? Right now we have one starter on the roster at CB and I'm not fond of a rookie starter there, but we passed on veteran CBs in Free agency so right now the only way to get one seems to be the draft. If we draft Slater, Sewell or Pitts, we lose Surtain and Joe Horn. Not only is Surtain a great pick at 10, He fits a need and arguably the BPA on defense side of the ball. Why would you do anything else on draft day but take him.?
We technically have 3 but I hear what your saying..

Lions drafted Okudah at #3 and he stunk it up. Diggs outperformed Okudah. What makes you think Surtain is a sure thing? Like last year with Diggs, maybe the best CB in the draft can be obtained in the 2nd round.

Pick the best player available regardless of position or current need.
Diggs outperformed every first round CB taken in the last 3 years not named Denzel Ward by a very wide margin

Outside of the QB I feel like the hardest position to get right is LT. A bad LT and you simply can't win...period. If a potential rock solid future LT falls to you at 10, you take him over everything else. If Tyron was 24 or 25 and had no back issues, I'd feel different about passing one up. But the reality is that Tyron is one the backside of his career. You need a star out there even if all the other linemen were just serviceable.

Right now we have 3 starters on the roster for CB and we got 2 guys at OT coming back from season ending surgeries and a starting TE doing the same. We also have a huge problem in the middle of our defense that was gashed in our biggest game in the last 5 years against the rams in the playoffs and it still hasn’t been addressed. We aren’t losing games because of our corner play.

three starters at cb...lol Who?

That's not the point, he may. I don't know and neither does anybody else, if he does, or miss a game or two is that what you want in your first rounder?
I think it doesn't matter cause that pick, Sewell or Slater slides into the guard spot year one anyway. They will not sit on the bench as a backup.

A lot depends on how healthy Tyron & La'el actually are. I doubt we'll know for sure before the draft, but the FO should already know exactly what's going on with both of them.

I wish we knew. It would make these pre-draft discussions a lot easier. But the uncertainty adds to the fun of the whole thing.

Zack Martin is a first round guard and absolutely Slater can play guard.

And there were plenty who had a problem with a guard being taking in the first round, he just turned out to be a good on, the same was said about Brandon Sheriff

Zack Martin is one of the all-time great players for this franchise. I have zero issues with that draft pick.

Anthony Brown is a very good #2CB wether you like it or not. He has always been a good player which is why he was retained. Same goes for Lewis. He is a top 5 slot corner. Did he have a down year, yes but who didn't with ZERO in the middle of this defense. We need guys to collapse the pocket and stop the run end of story.

I'm all for Surtain if available, and I do care about the CB position. However, i do also like Adebo in round 3, and, if Surtain is taken before we can get him, then I think Sewell is the right choice. We could use help at oline, and we'll likely need to draft a tackle either this draft or next draft. So, if Surtain is off the board and Sewell is on the board, then Sewell would be my choice. I wouldn't be opposed to Horn either, but, like I said, if Sewell is there and Surtain is gone, I'm taking Sewell and maybe taking Kelvin Joseph from Kentucky at 44 (another possibility).

Exactly, I fully expect Sewell to go to Cincy, so that point is probably moot. As for Pitts, I'd take Surtain over him. Pitts is a generational talent, but he doesn't really offer anything that we don't already have on this team. ALso, I expect him to be in Miami.
