Earned his payday? This isn't reward your average QB league. Actually, it is for the cowboys, that's why they are an 8-8 team. They consistently overpay out of ignorance, nostalgia, guilt, all the reasons not to pay a player.

You don't sign a top 5 QB contract unless you know you have a top 5 elite QB. We don't have it. It's not going to happen. Focus on fixing the team and dump your expensive "good" bus driver for the next young contract. Maybe he will be great and if not you can get another 3-4 years of average to good play.

All this stupid arguing goes back to one thing. You guys think he is a "stud", "elite" QB and I don't. Only time will tell but I sure do hope you guys are around in 2-3 years when Dak is still captain can't win.
Go find another team if you can't handle Dak being the starting/franchise QB, because Dak is not going anywhere for the next 5 seasons. Very simple.

Oh wow...really laying on the line there, eh? Justin Fields on that POWERHOUSE juggernaut team? As opposed to Dak's gutter crap team he rookied on?
You belong in Vegas with these kinds of sniper bets.
Shut it and bet if you believe I'm wrong. No one wants to hear you whine.

Lol can Dak?
How many times does this graphic have to be posted for yall to understand where we are coming from? Dak is on par with elite tier qb's, that's why we call him elite. This is why he got paid.

Now go ahead a say the usual "Winless against winning teams in 2019." When that has been debunked also.

Why draft a guy who might become the guy that Dak already IS? And what if he doesn't become that guy? There's not much more that Justin Fields can do than Dak last year prior to injury when Dak was on pace to break NFL records in passing. Fields isn't coming here and averaging 45 points a game... the main advantage of Fields would be his cheap contract, but we see how the FO wasted Dak's ultra cheap contract... what would they do different with the extra money than hire a bunch of guys who get cut or injured? We didn't see any new approach this offseason to FA... so when it's said and done, Fields wouldn't confer any huge advantage to this organization.

Excellent points all around. I would add that given what we've seen from the Cowboys really in the last 30 years, it has been great players doing superhuman things that led to their ultimate success. This team is woefully short on great players so getting rid of one who could potentially be one (I'm not prepared to call Dak "great" yet but he's right on the cusp) and replacing him with a wing and a prayer is inviting failure. It's better bet to see if McCarthy and co can get Dak to that greatness level than to count on this front office to build an all around championship team.

Yeah but that one year he was bad against winning teams so that's the only one that counts..

every statistical indication is that Dak is a top 10 QB. so average QB...where does that come from? oh, wait...wins/losses...so in your expert opinion all wins and losses are on the QB...please verify that's your thought? its a simple yes and no question......

I just don't see how someone could draft Trey Lance over Fields

Shanahan probably believed the rumors that started circulating that Fields was "lazy and didn't want to study.." It probably also came down to his front office saying "This team is too good to be turning over to some rookie QB. And we aint eatin Garrafolo's salary for your new tinker toy.. You're the one who told us HE was the best thing since sliced bread. So milk another year out of Jimmy G and then have your boy ready to step in.. " Lance is more raw and thus more malleable. Fields, by virtue of being closer to the finished product, is seen as perhaps not having as high a cieling as Lance. As I always say.. time will tell.

I am not saying Trey won't be good but how can you invest that in a guy with 17 games at the FCS level. Such a huge bust potential.

While Fields has all the qualities you want in a guy. There is no way that kid is lazy.

No. No Dak threads. Please, for the love of God.

They'll never quit. Some people hate Dak when they're awake and they hate him when they're asleep, and they have to hear themselves talk about it. They'll never get over it.

The reality is that if other teams knew Dallas was in the market for a QB, there is a 99% chance that Fields is taken in a trade up before us.

wow...you are so honed in on what you want to say that you have forgone comprehension.... so I will type slow and maybe you can follow.... they all signed contracts. at the time they signed they had top 3 contracts or top contracts...SUBSEQUENT years when they went to the superbowl, their contracts weren't the largest...why? because other players signed larger contracts.... thats what I said above...but you are just laser forcused on proving that they didn't have the largest contract when they went to the superbowl, which is what I said as well.... therefore!!! not sure what you are trying to prove there son.....\

so I am still typing slow.....Dak has a large (top 2) contract this year, in a couple of years he won't....because bunch of other QBs are about to sign contracts......follow? or do you I need to type even slower.....

How do I know he will be 100%...I trust the team doctors and the team, not faceless Steve007 on a message board with a Dak hating agenda....

and you are trying oh so hard with this emotional stuff, because you are trying to make this into an emotional argument,..... you are angry. you are not happy. perhaps something else in life and you are bringing it into this argument......you are trying to push this emotional stuff on message board members so in your mind to win an argument and feel like I got to them, or me...

sorry, your feeble attempt at making this an emotional argument fails....this is nothing but entertainment son, don't forget........if cowboys go 0-16, I will be disappointed. if they go 20-0, I will be happy and drink a beer (maybe two).. but seemingly I think if we win a superbowl, your head will explode.....given you are very emotionally invested in Dak failing......not sure why, but we will figure that out. its probably not all about Dak and there is other stuff going on in your life and you are projecting it into this argument

btw, son...just remember if Dak doesn't work out, we go back and draft another one....or sign one in FA and look for the next QB for the team....its really not that important.....don't take it so seriously and don't make it center of your life. like I have been saying, its just entertainment...nothing more. nothing less.
Wow your reply is very emotional. You sound mad. You are like these millennials who if someone disagrees with you they are a hater. I was exited when Dak played well in his first year. He is a good quarterback not elite. The Cowboys paid him elite money. You look at Dak very emotional. I look at it objectively and give my opinion. Your so emotional about Dak you didn't understand what i said about Daks injury. I said we don't know how he will play after the bad injury and players don't get better with an injury you hope they don't get worse. I won't get mad if he plays well. I'm saying the Cowboys paid too much for an average quarterback and he needs Superior talent around him to get to a Superbowl. I expect the Cowboys to do what they have done the last 25 years. Up down and average but no Superbowl. The Jones still run the team.

LOL. you are funny son...you keep hanging to the emotional angle, its called grasping at straws when you are drowning, so hold your breath, you are drowning.....

so lets deal with your underlying anger issues....why so much underlying anger...I think Dak is just an outlet for some other underlying issues you are avoiding....there is another message board member who was the same and we dealt with his issues...the transformation is amazing....

I have nothing against you, as a fellow cowboys fan I just want to help. honestly.

now, I am sure you are going to try again with the "emotional" angel...you have gone down that path and given your stubbornness traits you have clearly displayed, I am sure you will continue..... so lets give it a few more posts and start getting to the bottom of things.

Hey Dad Iets deal with your Dak obsession and why you get upset if somebody does't think he is a great quarterback. So if someone doesn't think Dak is a great quarterback they have underline conditions? That sounds like you started your own Dak cult.

Buddy, then what is your problem? You have a hard time comprehending what you read. I said you get up set when someone else doesn't think he is great. Why are you so sensitive about an opinion on Dak?

Explain to me again exactly what he has won at any level, outside of fleecing Jerry.
Sorry, but in my opinion. It’s just another ignorant statement. You don’t have to win something to be a winner. It’s character culture
