Qb is the most important position on the field but you don't need to be a HOF QB to win the super bowl. Their are plenty of examples of great defenses outshining the offense and getting a ring.

Yes agreed but those teams usually have a cheap QB.

We do not have that so it will be hard for us to create a defense like that.

The best or probably only way to create a defense like that it is thru the draft on Rookie contracts. We’d need at least a couple defensive heavy drafts that hit big. There’s really no other way with so much invested in Cap on offense.

You don't have to agree. It means nothing. The Jets would still be instant contenders with Rodgers added to their roster.
Maybe they would be in your opinion.

They aren’t like Tampa who were a .500 team with a stout defense and weapons just needing basically an Elite QB.

I disagree.

I mean.. The Bucs were a nothing team..

They had a lot of young talent which is why Brady chose them. But Brady brings more than superior QB play. He brings an intangible quality that is infectious and makes guys want to play harder. It even translates to the defense. As one Buc defender said and I'm loosely quoting: "nobody wants to embarrass themselves in front of Tom Brady. "

Right

And not only did they have some offensive weapons but they had a defense too.

And then they also brought in Gronk, Fourtnette and Brown.

Bucs had a nice roster but they don't make the playoffs without him which is kind of the point about elite QB's going to just about any team and their fortunes instantly change.

That’s such a broad statement. What the hell does that mean? “ a nothing team “

They had and brought in a ton of weaponry on offense. And then add in a top 10 defense. They just needed a better QB. One that didn’t throw 30 Int.

At least you’ve toned it down here.

I’d agree they’d instantly change the fortunes with about any team. That’s quite a difference to making any team a serious contender.

It didn't help that Mahomes was holding onto the ball for as long as possible.

Holding the ball too long ? Bro come on now they were without their top two OL guys one of which is his Pro Bowl LT. There's only so many screens and dump passes you can throw lol. I don't know where the notion of teams being able to win without strong OL play comes from but hey if you believe I'm hear you.

Tom Brady has made a career of screens and dump passes.. That’s why he’s in his mid 40s and still playing.

If the Chiefs had a Oline weakness they should’ve ran the and shorted up the passing game but they went with the horse that brought them there.

Im not trying to diminish how important an OLine is but there are ways to scheme around it.

Dallas had the best OL in the league for several years and they have 0 to show for it.

If you have an elite QB an average OL, defense, and WRs will do.

It’s all about the elite QB.

Ok as for Dallas we've never had two things that match OLine with offensive weapons no defense, sound defense committee of WR's you get the picture. This is true but that's their offensive identity the Chiefs while having roots in the West Coast Offense was never that type of offense they have nuances of it in their scheme but not heavy dump off plays with guys like Hill, Kelce, Watkins, Hardman, etc that stretch the field both horizontally and vertically. Those players got hurt on the OL in the AFC championship they were hoping they'd be back so that they could stick to the identity that makes them deadly. Even with changing it up that's not hard to stop once a defense sees you're restricted to short pass game because your OLine can't protect. I do have a question though, are you saying Pat Mahomes is not an elite QB?

Having two OL out definitely hurt. But the Tampa defense really deserves the credit. They created havoc on the LOS and put pressure on Mahomes.

If we’ve learned anything , pressure and disruption is the best deterrent for an Elite QB.

That's been true throughout time so yeah I agree on that Tampa scheme was simple clog the run lanes with big physical defenders let their LB's tee off on Mahomes, then in passing down flood the passing lanes to Kelcey and sick them pass rushers on him. They knew they wouldn't be able to hold up but not sure they get away with it if that OL was healthy

Welcome to modern day football.. Everyone has roster issues.. Scheme around them.

Most teams elect to scheme around their OL instead of investing like Dallas did but Garrett refused to change anything so he had to have them.

I’m also not saying Mahomes is overrated but if they are backing their coverage off 30 yards downfield maybe you should drop the backyard football for a bit and just get the ball out quick.

Yeah pretty sure he started doing that once Brady them went up a couple scores, if you're welcoming folks to modern day football at least acknowledge that. You can have the greatest X's and O's there are brother but one thing that remains the same it's the Jimmy's and Joe's that get it done in football that has stood the test of time in every era. My point was that dumping it off was never going to work for a team that was constructed to do exactly what KC does and that's stretch the field then beat you to sleep underneath with their TE.
