Where Big Mac and his staff deserve some credit

What the OP mentioned about culture, recognizing and developing young talent, getting backup players truly prepared to play when needed, knowing how to organize practice, realizing when to push the gas pedal and when to let off, keeping coaching staff relationships harmonious and smooth, seeing how and when to adjust during games... all of these are more important than calling timeouts or challenges during games. I'm surprised more people don't realize that.

Spot on!

The McCarthy haters will never give him credit. I guess they think a HC shouldn't get credit for anything unless they call their own plays like McVay.

McCarthy was the one established coach who I thought could come in and work well with Jerry and Stephen. That factor is a huge turnoff to most big-time coaching candidates but I felt like he could make it work without turning into a puppet like Wade/Garrett and also clashing with Jerry like Parcells.

They deserve more credit than that. Some fans take one bad decision and run with it....even Landry and Jimmy made bad decisions.....I give MM all the credit....he could have had other jobs but chose to deal with Jerry and still managed to pick his staff. He's had a positive impact on Moore and is also vested in the defense, since he has become a walk around coach.

Ranching I bet you remeber the last time we "had to keep the OC so we gave him his first HC job" how did that work out?

Mike McCarthy and his staff deserve some credit. This is a much better team because of some coaching and development. Would this have happened under Garrett? Hahaha! It’s early, but some credit is deserved.

I agree with this. The team seems prepared and motivated. They had a short week to prepare to play a 3-0 team and they still won. They team is playing with confidence and players seem to be very energized.

People complained about culture and atmosphere and I think that has improved dramatically under MM. I don't know how you can give all the credit to Moore or Quinn for our 3-1 record. HCs do a lot more than clock management. If being an HC is just about clock management then why do so many OCs fail as HCs? I think MM deserves more credit than he is getting.

As I said last week, someone deserves credit. From the outside, it's hard to say who & how much.

If there weren't such egregious issues each week regarding in game decisions, I think McCarthy would be getting a love fest from the fans. But those seem to be almost exclusively on him so it's drowning out whatever praise he deserves.

A coaches' meetings and practice pass needs to be given to an outsider to verify McCarthy's actual input
His genuine influence on the overall running of the team's offense, defense and special team units is minimal at best in my opinion.

And yet, what can clearly be discerned are the constant HC gameday blunders.

Count me in the coordinators are running the show here group. I never cared for the hire from day one anyway.

McCarthy kind of reminds me of Garrett in that his coordinators really define what he does, but the toxicity doesn't exist as McCarthy isn't as worried about one of the coordinators taking his job.

For example, when Richard and Marinelli were here, the defense looked great at first but during the last year of the duo, we didn't know if it was Marinelli's defense or Richard's defense. People were complaining about Kellen being handcuffed and forced to use the 'Garrett playbook'. The environment seems less toxic for coordinators honestly.

Interestingly enough, it seems like Garrett is doing a lot better going back to coordinator and not having to look over his shoulder at some potential young hotshot under him taking his job.
He better be worried about Kellen Moore taking his job.

Every coach has some questionable in-game decisions

I literally watched Sean McVay decide not to challenge a clear scoring play by Stafford, and consequently they ended up with 0 points on that drive.

I saw Joe Judge throw a challenge, on a scoring play

I saw Sean Payton, fail to call a timeout and took a delay of game penalty, which ultimately lost them the game

Yes. Barry Switzer was a joke and doesn’t know football.

He’s made a career off of surrounding talent.
Just wanted to make sure we are both on the same playing field. The man was a great recruiter of talent. I hope MM is just a place holder and the FO has a grand plan. Your right no big plan, what was I thinking

Diggs has 5 of the TOs, which is awesome. But he's covering up a lot of other defensive lapses.

And do the Cowboys really lead the league in defensive pressures??????

Not sure where they stand in pressures. But last night on Diggs' post game PC when asked about his INT's, he gave credit to the DL for creating pressure to allow him to be better.

You damn right I do. Maybe not right now but someday he's going to be a heck of a head coach so why not be the beneficiary?

I'm not against it down the road..I think it would be too much at this time though.
