Of course, but they also must balance their cost to keep such a well balanced good team in tact.
They have been doing a great job of doing that. They are going to have a great season with the team that they have.

Bye, Jaylon! Tough seeing you leave so suddenly, but you were way overpaid for the production (or lack of it) you brought on the field. Plus, dirt-cheap rookie LBs in Parsons and Cox made you and your overpaid contract expendable.

Tough but wise decision by the Cowboys. Finally.

So who is next?

Cowherd talks about it:

Who do you think might or should be next based on their overpaid contract, their production (or lack of it) on the field and their younger/cheaper replacements now on the team?

D-Law? Zeke? La'el? Amari?

Who do you see as the next needed cut player and why?

would not be surprised D-Law..he just gets hurt too much....and since we payed him kings ransom he only gets like 5 sacks a season in between injuries....we need his money more than him if they

get serious with this going young on defense....just my lowly opinion

amari is playing like a dawg...hurt hamstring and cracked ribs and catches that difficult TD pass ...Amari no slouch...gone over a 1000 ever year we have had him...18, 19, 20...will see 21?

Based on the play of their potential replacements, Collins would be first for me. Steele is holding up far better than expected. The savings isn't that much, though, at less than $2 million.

Lawrence would produce $8 million in cap savings, but I think we need to see more from his potential replacements at end before considering cutting over restructuring.

Elliott's base salary for next year is guaranteed, so he's not going anywhere. The Cowboys showed that by restructuring his deal.

Cooper would be a significant savings next year ($16 million) so he would probably top the list if Gallup was healthy and showing that he can take over the lead role. Cooper always has injury issues to overcome, so it would be good to get out of that contract in an opt year, but with no replacement, a restructure might be more likely.

Dlaw. Simply not worth 27 million next year. I doubt he gets the axe till after this season. But forcing quin to move Parsons around proves we can find other ways to get pressure.

Jerry overpays so many of his players that it's tough to pick just one!
Here's hoping whomever comes next should have a good life.

Great input!

I agree. It wouldn't be much of a savings to cut La'el, so he should be safe if he stays healthy and produces.

Cutting D-Law in the offseason would definitely save the Cowboys some money, but Cowboys definitely need to see what his replacements can do first this season. So far, so good.

Yes, Zeke's contract restructure guarantees he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Plus, he has gotten in way better shaped and stepped it up this season, so he's good. Hope he keeps it up.

As for Amari, yes, $16 million could be saved next offseason if the Cowboys decide to let him go since he's always playing injured. Plus, if CeeDee keeps improving and Gallup heals and comes back to playing as his old self, it would be cheaper to keep Gallup and allow him and CeeDee to be our 1 & 2 punch, joined by Wilson, Noah and Fehoko.

By the end of this season, it will be an interesting offseason for sure. Bottom line is the Cowboys need to start getting rid of some overpaid contracts and see how else they can save because there are a lot of key players who currently are on 1 year or their last year contracts this year who most likely the Cowboys need to try to resign and keep in Dallas if they want to keep this team in tact.

Didn't watch your clip, but if that's from today's show, Cowherd said the only overpaid player was Zeke and that he had no problem with it. Not that I care what he thinks, but that's what he said.

- O-line contracts are fine.
- Our receiver contracts are fine.
- Hate on Lawrence if you want, but we'll see how he plays in Quinn's scheme. Nolan played him the wrong way.
- Zeke would be the league rushing leader if he was getting Henry touches. He's still a beast. He won't get a 2nd big deal, but he belongs on this squad.

We're in fine shape re: the cap. Not only do we have good personnel, but we have some room, if necessary. Good draft picks go a long way.

Amari is overpaid. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. Quit making excuses.

The same goes for D-Law.

Definitely NOT Amari. That man gives 110%! Zekes coming back to his old form, waiting game. If I had to guess, probably be LVE or Dlaw. The team does well without either of them.

No ways we trade away or axe Cooper. He's like that shaolin master who is drunk and when you think he's easily by his drunken foolery, he goes and beats up everyone.

I would say Dlaw is next. Everyone has said he's good but not worth the money. I really think we overpaid for him. If we can keep some of our young guns on defense to reasonable contract, I think its worth dumping Dlaw and his contract.
